Kiara Hoffman’s POV
I was playing with his silken hair as he was sleeping next to me. The weakness of my self-control. My Charles. I sighed as I was looking at the early dawn light. I know what I must do, but how could I do it if he asked me to marry him last night?
“I have to do what I must, my love,” I whispered to him as I kissed his hair before I got out of bed. We spent hours and hours last night in this bed to reconcile our heated moment and how Charles has demonstrated that being married to him will be a happy one.
“I must let you go so that you will be happy, my love,” I said before I bent to kiss him again for the last time as I looked at the message that the Boss had sent me.
‘Come to Zurich at once, leave Charles out of it,’ it stated before I took my backpack and I went to look at him on the bed. His naked, broad shoulders, his black, silken hair. His handsome face. I will treasure it all.
“Goodbye, my love,” I said as my vision was no longer the motel bed that we shared for the last time last night. It was in the lab again, in Zurich. And with the people that I did not expect to see.
“Well, isn’t that exciting? The real testimony will prove our product significantly. I told you she would comply with our request, Virtanen,” a feminine voice was looking at me with her hands being crossed in front of her chest.
“Sophia, don’t provoke her,” Chris said, as the very person I did not expect to see was behind them as well.
“Yes, what did I tell you? She was the perfect weapon to use when it concerned her boss and lover,” Fenn Remes was talking to me as he stepped outside in the dark. Chris was looking elsewhere, as if he would rather be anywhere else than here.
“Now, be a doll and let Sophia take your blood sample or this old man will die. You know I would not bluff about this,” Fenn said as he was pointing the gun at the sleeping Boss. I felt a tug in my chest as I looked at his state. He has been a father figure to me these last couple of years.
“Well, shall we begin?” Sophia said as she drew the syringe and I held out my hand. She drew a rubber band on her upper arm before she put the syringe inside and drew my blood. I did not wince at all as I was keeping my face stoic. I looked at Fenn and his gun to ensure that the Boss was safe.
Sophia was humming as she put my blood sample into the suitcase that would be carrying it to Denmark. I did not know if it was the blood or the syringe that I felt dizzy. Maybe it was both.
“Thank you for your cooperation. We will take our leave then,” Fenn said as he pulled his gun from the Boss. I released the breath that I did not know I was holding.
“Have a good day,” Fenn said before something was digging into my stomach. It was painful as I turned to look at my stomach. Blood was everywhere before Fenn took his leave, leaving Chris and Sophia to look at him.
“Charles,” I whispered before I went out cold on the floor. Oh, how I wish I could have told him how I felt about him. The darkness was consuming me as I closed my eyes for the last time.
Chris Virtanen’s POV
“Bloody hell,” I mumbled as I went to the blonde woman who my uncle called Kiara. I looked at the wound that was being taken by my uncle. I felt my teeth were gritting to control my anger right now.
“Chris,” Sophia said softly into my ear as I was hugging her. She was my anchor when my uncle did something terrible. I know I should not have bailed him out of the jail after that incident, my cousin.
“We need to save her, Sophia,” I said as I turned to look into her blue eyes. It held warmth in them, unlike my uncle and everyone else. They thought I was a bad guy and maybe I was.
“We will save her,” Sophia mumbled as she kissed my earlobe before she nuzzled my neck. I was holding her close before someone came into the lab.
“Boss? Kiara?” Charles’ voice was coming inside the room. Sophia turned to look at him as I was tightening my hand on her waist.
“Charles, it’s not what it looks like,” Sophia started, but before I knew it, I was on the wall as Charles’ face was a few inches from mine.
“What did you do to her?” He asked darkly, as I could see he was about to be able to consume with fury. I did not know what to say, but Sophia was trying to calm down the situation. She said that we needed to focus on the matter at hand, which was Kiara.
“Answer me!” He barked as I was trying to breathe right now.
“Can’t breathe,” I mumbled as his tight hold on me. I was seeing lights right now before Sophia said something.
“Release him, Charles, as he was the only one that knows about the formula,” Sophia said before Charles turned to look at her. His grip loosened on me as I was taking sharp breaths.
“What do you mean?” He asked as I was coughing.
“It means that he knows how to reverse the effect of your experiment, but we have to stop his uncle from doing some stupid s**t right about now,” Sophia said as she was helping me up. I saw some lights and vision but I was looking at him for reassurance.
“You found the cure?” Charles asked, baffled, as I was the one that cracked his father, Albert Debrun’s code of teleportation on humans.
“Yes, and unfortunately, as well as my uncle. We need to stop him,” I said before I nudged my head toward Kiara.
“We have to save her first. My love,” I said to Sophia before she nodded and went to Kiara’s side.
“What are you trying to do?” Charles barked at her as she was getting some doses inside the syringe.
“Relax, man. She knows what she’s doing,” I said as I was holding Charles. Sophia injected the special medicine into Kiara’s blood system before she looked at the wound. It was healing, thankfully, as the wound was closing on itself.
“Dear God,” Charles said as he was cradling her face on his lap. Sophia gave them some space before she was standing next to me.
“Kiara, my love. Please, do not leave me. Please. I need you,” he mumbled softly as I draped my arm across Sophia’s shoulder.
“You know I still don’t forgive you for letting him take what was rightfully mine, right?” I whispered to Sophia as she turned to look at me, mischief in her blue eyes.
“Oh, and what is that, Mr. Virtanen?” She said as she was smirking wickedly at me. Damn woman for playing my heart.
“I will punish you for that,” I whispered before she was whispering to me as well.
“I’m looking forward to that,” she said as we were looking at Charles as Kiara was groaning to life.
Charles Debrun’s POV
“My love, wake up,” I mumbled as Kiara was stirring in her sleep. I looked at the whole thing. It was a gun wound earlier. I cannot believe that Sophia was curing my sweetheart. I was caressing her cheeks as she was slowly opening her eyes. Her blue ones met my hazel eyes.
“Charles? What are you doing here? You shouldn’t,” she said hoarsely before Sophia gave me a glass of water to feed Kiara.
“Thank you,” I said as I was helping Kiara to sit up and drink the water. She finished it in seconds before she was looking at me. She groaned as she looked at her bloodied clothes with a hole in her stomach.
“Bloody hell,” she mumbled before I hugged her. I cannot believe I was about to lose her again. No more. I have to get this stupid mad man down.
“Well, isn’t that a sight? If you guys need a room, just tell us so,” Boss said as we turned to look at him. He was smirking before Sophia rolled her eyes.
“Uncle, not a good time,” she said as she went to kiss his cheeks. Wait, why were Sophia Hansen and Chris Virtanen there? I thought they were supposed to be our enemies?
“Looks like I have a lot to explain,” Boss said.
“Yes, please. What the bloody hell was going on here?” I barked at him as Kiara put her hand on my chest, hoping to calm me down.
“I know you wanted to be mad, but hear me out. I know that I have to expand the team and so I hired my niece and her fiancé, Sophia and Chris,”
“But you said Chris was the one that responded to taking the princess 5 years ago,” I said as I helped Kiara to get onto my feet.
“Well, I edited the video and I asked Chris to be the bait. I need to draw the real culprit out and use Kiara as a bait for human transportation. I know he would not resist it,” the Boss said as Chris was sighing.
“I shouldn’t have bailed him out from that mental hospital,” he said as Sophia was caressing his chest. I never thought that my ex-fiancée was a spy. Maybe I was being too ignorant of those around me.
“Who else?”
“No one. This is the whole team,” Boss said as he was firing up the computer and we saw that Fenn Remes was getting to the destination.
“I think it’s about time we put a stop to all of this,” Boss said as he was smiling cheekily at me.
