Charles Debrun’s POV
Holy mother of God!
I don’t know, even after 5 years and all that has been happening between us, Kiara still jumped on me and kissed me like she f*****g owned my lips. Not that I was complaining, it was…unexpectedly pleasant to know that she wanted me.
I groaned as I was lying down on the floor as I was roaming her body. She was still kissing my lips as I was trying to get the upper hand on her. But she was fast at grasping what I was about to do.
“No, not this time, doc,” she whispered before she bit on my earlobe and I moaned at the contact. She chuckled wickedly before she was unbuttoning my shirt as I was dazed to do anything. She was looking intensely at me before she stopped in her tracks. I looked at her before she shook her head and got off me.
“Kiara?”
“Don’t say my name,” she said as she was breathing hard, trying to control her emotions, I supposed.
“What’s wrong?” I said as I went to sit up before she was pacing back and forth in front of me, closing her eyes.
“None of your concern, Debrun,” her icy voice was back and I know now that she was not the Kiara I knew, but a cold-stoned hearted one after that incident 5 years ago. She turned to look at me as if my buttons were in disarray, all because of her delicate fingers.
Oh, I found those fingers 5 long years ago.
“No time to lose. I think we can start to search for that now and I think we have some business to attend to the King of Hungary,” she said as she was looking down on me, crossing her hands in front of her chest.
“The King of Hungary? King Peter? What does he want now?” I asked before I got up and buttoned my shirt again. Kiara was looking at my hands as her eyes were dark and her breath quickened.
I think I was not the only one that cannot control my desire after all.
“He wants us to uncover the true mastermind of Princess Christine Rovski of Hungary. There was an attempt on a Finnish princess as well when the future King and Queen of Finland was in Hungary. I think someone wants to destroy the monarchies of European countries,” she said before she went to look at the window to stare outside.
It hurt me to know that I used to adore her whenever she was looking outside, full of life and happiness, but now, she was an ice queen that no one dared to cross.
She was an intelligent person and a very diligent one. No wonder King Peter asked her to guard the Princess when they were in Italy. I know, call me stupid, but I kept tabs on Kiara Hoffman whenever she went.
I think my infatuation with her is still strong and I hate myself for that.
I don’t even deserve her after what I did 5 years ago. But right now, she was not dwelling on the past. And I think I agree with her. We had to solve the case and that’s the end of our common ground.
“You have any idea how to track that said mastermind?” I asked, as I was leaning against the sofa before Kiara turned to look at me. Her blonde hair that I used to comb, the blue eyes that used to hold their love and admiration for me.
There were none of those anymore.
“Oh, I think I know the person to ask for. King Peter asked me to talk to him. And luckily, he was near us and knew about the dire situation,” she said as she was smiling. I hated to break it but I didn’t like another person to be the reason my Kiara was smiling.
Wait, what?
I cleared my throat before I went to get some brandy from the bar. It has been a month since I was in Zurich before I went to Denmark with Sophia. And then there’s the explosion and the kidnapping by my ex. I think I deserved a bloody drink.
“Brandy?” I asked her as she was staring at me. I shrugged before I poured a glass for me. Its golden honey color reminded me of Kiara’s hair but I have to shove that thought away from my mind.
“You think we have time for such a drink?” She asked before I drank one shot. The burning sensation of the liquid in my throat made me feel alive as I sighed before I put the glass down.
“I have enough on my plate already. At least you can give me a moment to enjoy my liquor,” I said as I turned to look at her. She scoffed at me before she went to sit again, crossing her knees. My c**k bulged again at the slightest movement before I frowned. Kiara arched her eyebrows at me.
“Something you want to share, doc?”
“Nothing that I deem important to you,” I mumbled before I went to pour a second glass. I needed something stronger to forget the temptation in front of me. I have to stay strong and maybe we will get along just fine.
A beep came into the quiet of the night before Kiara was standing up again, her face was scowling. I turned to look at her as she was typing something into the phone that she was holding.
“Something’s wrong?”
“Nothing that I deem important to you,” she said sarcastically as I gripped the glass. Even when I mumble, her sharp earnings can pick up my words.
I think I need to be careful this time.
I sighed before I drank my second glass of brandy as Kiara was making her way toward me. I arched my eyebrows before I put the glass down.
“Boss wants to see us for the assignment of King Peter,” she said as she was looking at me, crossing her hands still.
“Boss? I thought he was only interested in your father’s teleportation research?”
“There’s that, but he was also one of King Peter’s old friends,” she said before I arched both of my eyebrows.
“Well, I don’t know that.”
“So have I. But we have to go. Now,” she said before she pulled my collar and kissed me again. And then we went out of my apartment and back to the lab.
Kiara Hoffman’s POV
Okay, maybe I was being too direct with my emotions and feelings about Charles. I get it, he was handsome, young, intelligent and bloody rich. Not that I cared about the last part. It was that he made something inside me moved. I cannot believe that I was confessing, but I will never tell him that.
So, we were back at the lab as the boss was looking at us strangely. He thought that something had happened to us, but I have to rest assured him that our professionals will not interfere with our feelings.
Not yet, my mind said as I was pushing that dark thought away.
“Ah, I see that you got my message,” Boss said as he was rolling his wheelchair to the computer before he was typing something. I went to lean against the door as Charles was moving to look at what he was typing about.
“So, I have picked up something interesting while you guys were—“
“Nothing happened,” we said simultaneously as the Boss just arched his eyebrows at us before shrugging.
“Well, it’s none of my business, so I will just ignore that. My program picked up something that was strange happening in Zurich,” he said as I was rolling my eyes.
“We have just been there. Now you are wasting my energy on teleporting back,” I said as I was grunting at him. The boss only looked at me before he shook his head.
“Charles, do you know this man?” He asked Charles before he went to open the image. I daresay that the man on the computer was handsome. Maybe even more than Charles with his blonde hair and green eyes. He looked yummy.
Okay, I think I need to stop thinking about guys for one f*****g minute.
“That’s Chris Virtanen. He’s the cousin of Kai Virtanen, the CEO of Virtanen Inc.,” he said as he was blinking.
“She also married to Princess Kathleen Remes,” he added. My eyebrows shot upward. Now that’s interesting.
“Have you been in contact with him lately?”
“No, I haven’t. I have been rather preoccupied with something else,” he said as I scowled at his declaration.
No doubt with the fiancée of his.
Wait, what was happening to me?!
I shook my head as I was trying to ignore the darkness that was roaming inside my head, as if I wanted to kill someone right now. The urge was too strong before I cleared my throat.
“So, what’s up with him?” I asked, as I didn’t know the connection between that man and the strange thing the Boss picked up.
“He was seen at the entrance of Budapest International Airport one day before the assassination attempt on Finnish royalty,” Boss said as I was scowling.
“That doesn’t make any sense. He’s Virtanen’s cousin. So it was not strange to have a business executive be in Hungary when his cousin was there as well,” I said as I was looking at Charles and Boss. Charles was trying to surpass his laughter before I narrowed my eyes at him.
“No, it’s not that. What was wrong and strange was that he was discovered to be in the lab on the mountain that used to hold Princess Christine 5 years ago,” Boss said grimly before I turned to look at the second image that they had.
He was right. Chris Virtanen was coming out from the gate that led to the lab mountain. The real question was: what was he doing there when he was not a scientist or anything of the sort?
