Chapter 2.27

Antonio Romano’s POV I went to pick up the letter and I sat on the bed. I was afraid to read what was inside the envelope but I took a deep breath and I tore it to read the letter that had been prepared for me. It began like this: Dear Antonio, If you are reading this letter, it means that I have given up making you remember who I was or the promise that we have made between us. It has been 5 years since we met in Hungary. I know you must have forgotten me as you are now an eligible bachelor of Italy. I, however, will never forget your face in my wake or my dreams. You have always been the one for me, but I know you would never choose me. I was a clumsy woman and not that very important to you. I was not like the others, I was just me. Sometimes, I wonder if you ever thought about me. Well, to be honest, I was being too hopeful. You were happy in Italy more than you ever were in Hungary. You seek my father to get out of your father’s influence and you succeed. You have everything you need; family with your mother, a successful business and maybe, a lover that will always love you. I see the way you looked at Nina and I could never compete with that. She’s perfect and I was untrained to be your PA. Maybe, just maybe, a part of me still wants to know that you still remember when you gave me that violet dress to try on when we went shopping on the way to Finale Ligure. How disappointed I was that you don’t remember me and my deal. Never mind that, I will be gone now. All I have is the memory of your laughter and smiles that will keep me content for the rest of my life. Even if I get married, you will always be in my heart. Forever yours, Christine Rovski First and foremost, Christina Dobulski was Christine Rovski, Princess of Hungary and I don’t even know her. What was I thinking?! I was an i***t. 5 years ago, I would have recognized her even with that hideous disguise that she wore when I attacked her in the bushes. Secondly, will she get married?! What the hell?! She belonged to me and me only. I will have to remind her when I get her back in my clutches. “Merda!” I cursed as I was throwing the letter onto the bed as I saw the familiar violet tulip that was in the envelope. That was no doubt the sign of Christine Rovski as she did give me one as well when I was about to leave Hungary forever. There was no mistake that she was Princess Christine Rovski of Hungary. Also known as Christina Dobulski, my PA. I felt like an i***t. I was being fooled by a princess that was all innocent and naive. But she was more than that. A force to be reckoned with. I smiled darkly before I laughed at myself. At my foolishness. “Oh, Christina, you just had to play dirty, did you? Well, I have something for you as well, my love,” I said darkly before I went to get the phone that I thought I would never use again. I dialed the number that I knew by heart before he picked it up. “Hello?” He answered the phone. It was a familiar voice once upon a time, but now, all I could see was how to exact revenge against a certain princess. “Commander Romano, it’s me,” I said before he sighed. I told him that I would never call him ever after I left the service and I said that I would call him to get the favor that he owed me. “I know,” “It’s time for me to collect my debt from you,” I said as I was staring at the city lights. They were burning bright tonight as my heart was blooming with an idea that made my love squirm in her feet. Christine Rovski’s POV I sighed as I was getting the helmet and Kiara was looking at me sadly. I know that look. She felt guilty that I would be a non-existent person in my home country. Why has fate been so cruel? We went downstairs as she opened the garage door. It was morning and I was ready to report back to my mansion. Not that I don’t miss my servants and all the privilege that I got with my title, I just don’t want to be a walking zombie in that mansion. “Well, today’s the day,” I said as I turned to look at Kiara. She was sniffing as she was trying to hold her tears back. “I know, I’m sorry you don’t get to live your life to the fullest, Christina,” she slipped as I laughed. “Well, you don't seem to forget that I am not the princess of Hungary but Christina,” I said as I was holding her hand. She smiled. “You will always be Christina to me,” she said as she hugged me. I was hugging her back as she was patting my back. “Well, I should get going, if I don’t want anyone to be on alert if I sneak into my prison,” I said bitterly. “It’s not a prison if you don’t do it that way.” “It’s hard to think positively if you’re not there to visit me,” I said as I was arching my eyebrows. “I will try to come but you have to let me through. Those guards of yours are hard to get by,” she said as she was crossing her arms in front of her chest. “I will try to get that permission from my dad,” “Don’t you mean, Your Highness?” She asked as she arched her eyebrows. “Well, that too. But I think I might want to make a few changes around the mansion. Besides, it’s my house anyway,” I said. Kiara was staring at me as if I was growing horns on my head. “What?” “You’ve changed.” “Well, being with Tony and all, I think I have a better perspective on life,” I said as I got on my motorcycle and put the helmet on. “But your love department was still the same,” she snickered before I punched her lightly. “Okay, sorry. Drive safe,” she said as I was starting the engine and the bike roared. “I would not guarantee it. Tony thinks I was a klutz.” “You know you’re not. You’re just trying to get his attention,” Kiara said as she was smirking at me. “Was I? I can’t remember,” I said, smiling sadly as I was pushing the eye protection down before I was out of her garage and into the familiar street of Hungary. There was not much traffic but it was nice to be doing something that I liked before I locked myself in the tower again. After I got to the front gate, I pressed the intercom before they were asking some questions. I knew there was a camera, so when I took off the helmet, all the guards were coming at me as they took my helmet and asked me to walk to the mansion. “Guys, seriously, I’m fine,” I said as they were fussing over me like I was a child. I sighed, as they would never listen to me as I was being pushed by my servants and guards as they were informing my father that I was home now. Well, goodbye freedom. I was being stripped of my commoner’s clothes as I was being dragged to take a bath and the maids insisted that I must be washed thoroughly by them before the King and Queen arrived at the mansion. See what I mean? A prison. Well, a luxurious one too. I was being dressed in the silk gown that I loved to wear when I was home and I think they wanted me to be like that again. I think I have broken my spirit to rebel anymore. Last time, I had Tony to rile me up. But now, I have nothing that I want to fight for anymore. I was being dragged to the kitchen to have some food as they thought I didn’t have much to eat while I was away. Tony has been a generous employer as he would always take care of me, but now I felt like I was not up for eating anymore. It will remind me more of Tony. “Your Highness, please eat. We have been worried sick that you were thinner when we last saw you,” the cook said as I was staring at the pot roast that she made and I felt like I was slapping her in the face, saying that her cooking was not that excellent. My father made sure that I got only the best. “Fine, just give me the beef and the salad. I don’t want gravy,” I said as I was looking at the food while the servants were serving me the food that I asked for. “What about the drinks, Your Highness?” She asked as I looked at her. I saw the liquor cabinet as I remembered that Tony would not want me to get drunk. Not when he was not around. So, I went with a safe option. “Do you have orange juice?” “We will get it for you,” the servant said as he went to the kitchen before I was ready to eat. I sighed as I took the fork and knife before I ate my breakfast. It was morning and already I was being shoved with food.
