Chapter 03

She stood before the mirror, inspecting her dress. Amanda wore the most expensive dress she could find. It was a sleek, elegant deep red dress with a shimmering finish, giving her a luxurious and polished look. The dress had a halter neckline, accentuating her shoulders and neck. It was form-fitting, highlighting her silhouette with a smooth, tailored fit. The floor-length gown added sophistication and grace. Her long, dark, silky hair was slicked back into a perfect bun, highlighting the beautiful features of her face. Her gorgeous golden-brown eyes were enhanced by the shimmer of her outfit. Her heart-shaped lips matched the same color as her dress. She looked exceptionally beautiful and ready to take one step further into exposing Robert and his lies. She took her purse, which was lying on the bed, looked at herself one last time, proud of how beautiful she looked, then headed out the door. With that, a knock followed on the door. “Come in,” she announced. She already knew it was Robert standing at the door. He walked in, his suit perfectly tailored, highlighting his broad shoulders and chiseled physique. The top of his shirt was undone, teasing at the muscles beneath. His hair was a perfect mess of rich, tangled dark locks that fell over his face, framing his piercing gaze. A black dagger earring glinted on one ear, his style alluding to his rebellious nature. And behind him followed Lisa Larson, wearing a white off-shoulder cocktail dress. It had a fit-and-flare silhouette, with a fitted bodice that showed off her shoulders and collarbone, and a flared mini skirt that came a few inches above her knees. Her blonde hair was slicked and perfectly falling over her shoulders. When they saw Amanda approaching in her dress, they both looked shocked, particularly Robert. “Uh? Eh… what happened to the dress I bought for you? I thought you said you loved it?” he asked, referring to the simple, plain blue dress he had insisted she wear tonight. Amanda smiled and answered, “Don’t you like my dress, baby?” Robert frowned, disappointed. He was already used to controlling how Amanda looked, what she wore, and what she didn’t. But today, she had decided to go against him. “I just thought the other dress would suit you better. I don’t really like red,” he said, yet he still couldn’t keep his eyes off her. ‘The eyes don’t lie, my sweet darling,’ she thought to herself. “Yeah, I think the dress is a little… too much,” Lisa chimed in. “Oh, well, I love this dress,” Amanda replied, not promising to change anything. “Well, you don’t have to change. Robert, tell her,” Lisa spoke up. But Amanda already knew what they were about to say. She reached into her bag and waved a ticket in their faces. “Don’t worry. I already got an extra ticket. You can join us,” Amanda said. They looked at each other, shocked. Now they had no excuse not to go together. Tonight was an annual gala event. Having some connection to the Andersons, Amanda, too, got an invite. In her past life, she had wanted to go with Robert. But Robert had come with Lisa to tell her the same story they were about to tell now: That Lisa really wanted to go to this event. It was her dream, and blah, blah, blah. That after her ‘accident,’ she could at least do this for her. She didn’t want to die without ever having the chance to. Amanda, then, had worn his stupid blue dress. She was kind and understanding. And so she agreed, even when it hurt. Because back then, she would do anything for Robert. But now she knew better. It would be easy to make Lisa stay with him. But it would be more fun to string her along, keeping her thinking Amanda was still the naive girl she had played with in her past life. “Really? How did you know?” Lisa asked excitedly. “Robert told me,” Amanda answered with a smile. “But—” Robert looked around, confused. Of course, he hadn’t told her anything. At least not in this lifetime. Wasn’t it fun messing with him? Isn’t tearing your enemies psychologically the best revenge? “Robert? You didn’t have to. Thank you so much,” Lisa said, hugging him. “I didn’t—how did you—” Robert stuttered, perplexed by everything. “Robert has connections in high places. Now let’s go. We don’t want to be late,” Amanda said, already striding toward the door. Still confused by her weird behavior, they both followed behind. “I guess I’ll meet you there,” Amanda said, already hopping inside the car that was waiting for her. Her car drove away, leaving them both standing there, questioning what had just happened. Just one step at a time, and she would finally expose her enemies. The old naive girl was dead. Now, a new b***h had been reborn. The car sped through the city skylines, headed for the ball.
