When they saw them, Robert and Lisa approached. Though trying to keep composed, you could see the anger visible on Robert's face when he saw Amanda standing with Jayden.
“Jayden? So nice to see you,” Lisa spoke excitedly as they approached.
“Who are you?” Jayden asked, his voice stone-cold. His coldness wiped the smile off Lisa's face.
“My name is Lisa Larson. I'm a big fan,” she said, extending her hand, only to be met with a cold response.
“I prefer you call me Mr. Anderson,” he told her, ignoring her hand completely. You could see the disappointment on her face at being rejected by one of the richest people in the world.
“Amanda? What are you doing with him?” Robert asked, annoyed as he looked between them.
“How's that any of your business? Or do you own her now?” Jayden demanded, his voice stern and unwavering. Robert was taken aback for a moment, not understanding why he was standing up for her—the girl who had already embarrassed him in front of everyone.
“She's my girlfriend,” Robert answered boldly. But Jayden stood his ground, not flinching even for a moment.
“Well, I don't have to explain myself for what I choose to do with my time. Or don't I deserve the same respect?” Amanda raised a brow as she asked him. Robert looked shocked by her sudden boldness. Normally, she would never question him.
First, it was the dress, and now she was standing up to him. What changed all of a sudden? Robert wondered. Since yesterday, Amanda had been acting weird. She was no longer the clingy girl who followed him around like a puppy—the one who obeyed his every word.
“I was just asking,” Robert simply answered, not wanting to escalate the situation any further. Though inside, he was livid with anger. But soon, he would teach her who he really was. How dare she question him? Soon enough, she would become the obedient puppy she once was, Robert swore to himself in anger.
Tension hung visibly in the room—so visible you could touch it.
“Mr. Anderson, I heard you were looking for a bride to inherit your father's business. That must be exciting,” Lisa spoke with a smile, trying to break the ice.
“Keep your nose out of my business,” he gave her an icy glare, which made her immediately cower in fear. “I'll see you around,” he turned his attention to Amanda.
“Yes, Mr. Anderson,” Amanda softly answered. The small smile at the corner of his lips gave her goosebumps.
“Call me Jayden,” he corrected.
“Jayden,” she muttered, her voice soothing and smooth. She heard a small snicker from him, a soft smile playing on his lips. Amanda felt her heart skip a beat, and her cheeks burned. Maybe revenge doesn’t always have to be gloomy.
She turned around to see both Lisa and Robert looking at her with angry eyes. Their anger brought her joy inside.
“How can you flirt with another man in front of your boyfriend?” Lisa asked, as if she was surprised. But Amanda only smiled, not intimidated by her question.
“Robert doesn’t mind. You don’t mind, right, Robert?” Amanda addressed him with a smile. Of course, he couldn’t argue against that. Wasn’t that one of his golden rules?
Robert hated how she was testing him, using his own words against him. What’s wrong with her? Why was she punishing him? Was it because she ditched their movie plans?
“Is this because I spent the night with Lisa? I already told you she was in an accident,” Robert said, not sure how he was supposed to explain this situation.
“Did I do something wrong? Please tell me, baby, if I did something wrong,” she faked concern as she took his hands in hers.
“I can’t believe you would do this. Don’t be angry at him. It’s all my fault. I’m the one who forced him to come. He was only being kind,” Lisa said with a pitiful expression. That would have fooled Amanda back then.
“I asked him a question. I didn’t ask you. Can’t I have a conversation with my boyfriend without you inserting yourself?” Though she spoke in a low tone, her voice was firm. Lisa opened her mouth in shock.
“Robert, why is she speaking like this? Did I do something wrong?” she cried to Robert, who too was gobsmacked by this outburst. When did Amanda become so smart?
“Amanda, please. Why are you speaking like this?” Robert asked.
“Speaking like what? Again, baby, tell me if I did something wrong. I only asked a question. Am I wrong for that, sweetheart?” Amanda asked, her voice soft, with a hint of rebellion.
“No, but—”
“But then why are you persecuting me, baby? Can’t we enjoy this wonderful event in peace?” she asked with a smile that angered Robert further.
They both looked at each other, now not knowing what to say. This new version of Amanda perplexed them both.
“I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding,” Lisa could only say.
“Probably,” Amanda answered.
“Mmh. You’re not wearing your mother’s necklace. Robert said you wanted to wear it today,” Lisa quickly jumped to another subject.
“It’s so important to me. I just didn’t want to risk losing the necklace,” Amanda gave her a simple answer.
Ah, the necklace. The whole reason she found herself in this situation. The whole reason her boyfriend betrayed her and killed. All because of a necklace.
