Chapter 2

Earlier on...

I startle awake from that same dream again. I always lose her but today was different, I got to talk to her. That has to be progress right? But then the blood curdling scream she let out after I showed her my true form, how is it that I finally find my mate and she is terrified of me? It doesn't make any sense at all, she is my mate and that means she has to be a wolf. Then why the fear? Unless she hasn't shifted or maybe she lives among humans? I need her now more than ever, my pack is starting to ask questions about me not having a mate. That can cause issues and everyone worries that I might snap without a mate, at 30, it is expected. Today I got to see her close and that makes me happy, maybe I am getting close. I get up to take a shower and go downstairs to get breakfast.

''Morning Gayle, how are we doing today?'' I say to my housekeeper, making me food doesn't fall under her job description but she still does that.

''We are doing great, Alpha. Your breakfast is ready, would you like coffee to go with?'' She answers as she fixes me a plate and I nod.

We have a conversation about everything and nothing while I eat. She has been like a mother to me ever since mine passed when we were still kids, she just took over the role of raising me and Caleb. I have tremendous respect for her.

After breakfast I get ready for work and meet Julian, my second-in-command. Julian has been my best-friend since childhood and a trusted member of my pack. He runs me through the day's schedule and meetings I have to attend out of town, especially the one in Anderdale Hills. I know exactly what it will be about and I have no desire to deal with it, they know I can't rush fate. ''Those old fools know that I can't just pick any female to be Luna but they still insist on it. They are getting on my nerves now!'' I complain to Julian. ''Why worry about it anyway? It's not like they can force you to do that, so just ignore them.'' He says with a shrug.

''Weren't you the one who told me to play nice with them? I glare at him.

''I said that one meting with the council wouldn't hurt, not to listen to their whims.'' He says absently.

''Did you set me up,Caleb?''

''NO! NEVER! I may want you to choose a mate but it's only because I worry I will lose you to madness. You are the most powerful Alpha in the region and if you were to go mad, Moon Goddess save us.You would drive us to extiction so I worry for your wellbeing and the pack's wellbeing. As your Beta I will say choose any of the females in the pack, but as your friend I will say do what you feel as right.'' He looks at me with mock-pity. ''I wish I had your problems when it comes to women, they look at me as if I'm a freak everytime I show up. They love you but you couldn't care less Ethan.''

''You can't be sure they like me or what I can possibly give them, so no I am not entertaining them. And what will happen when I choose then she shows up? I can't deal with all that crap.''

''Yeah that would be such a freaking disaster, and she might just reject you just for that. Damn, that would be so awkward.'' He laughs at me.

''You would love to see that,huh? And you wonder why the ladies are wary of you.'' That wipes the smile off his face.

''Caleb and Marcus are late again, the council is going to be f*****g pissed.'' They are annoying those two, Marcus is turning out to be a negative influence on him.

We are 30 minutes late and the old f***s are staring daggers at us, I stare at them one by one just to remind them who is boss here.The meeting drags on and on, I am bored out of my head. They brought me here under the guise of discussing the treaty between our pack and the Red Moon pack, which will never happen as long as I live; just to ask me how is my choosing of a mate going. I choose to be blunt.''I know my mate is out there and I have seen her, so I am not going to choose anyone else. And if anyone disagrees with my decision then they will have to challenge me, the only way I am changing my mind is if my mate dies before I meet her or somebody challenges me and win. So, any objections.'' The room gets sour so damn quick and I ravel in their silent rage, nobody says anything so I turn to my brother and say, '' I am hungry now, you know a place I can get food?''

''Yeah actual I read about one before we got here, it's about 10 minutes from here.'' He says while checking his phone and adds,''You are in luck too since lunch was an hour ago, so it should be less crowded.''

''You can't just leave the meeting isn't done!'' Some bald old man says as we open the door, and I couldn't care less about him he can send me a letter to address his bullshit.'' Raise your voice at me and you won't have the throat to let it out, oui?

Caleb leads to a small restaurant in town, at first it looks small. When we get closer, I get this giddy feeling and my wolf paces up and down. I am trying to pinpoint what has him this excited and the I smell it, the most pleasing smell I have ever came across and my heart drums like crazy. What is going on? I pick up my pace towards to the restaurant and it gets more potent and I feel like howling, my canines ache and my claws elongate. Julian notices something is up but I wave him off. Julian is the first to go first, followed by Marcus and Caleb, I go in last. It is even worse in here and I want to tear this place apart so I can find the source of that smell. I look around and I see her, the girl in my dream. She looks equally stunned as her eyes stayed glued on me, Caleb says something to her. But she pays him no mind at all, she is staring at me like a deer in headlight. She is a beautiful girl and young too, she has jet black hair and hazel eyes. They suit her round face and small nose, she has beauty marks on her face. Does she have those anywhere else on her body? Wait, what? Why is that even a thought in my mind? Why does she look at me as though she knows me too? Has she seen me before? Does she dream about me too? I want to touch her. Then she says,''You...''

Okay she knows me and she is not happy about it. Julian realizes that I can't seem to say anything or move and asks for a table from another waitress standing next to her, I try hard to come up with something to say but only one word repeats itself in my mind. ''Mate.'' Caleb is looking between the two of us like he can't believe it either, that makes 2 of us brother. Julian tries to get me to move but I smack his hand off and get closer to the counter, closer to my mate. She tries to move away from me and that seem to snap me out of it, I remember she runs away even in my dreams. I take a subtle sniff at her and she smells Devine, but under that she smells...human.
