The Island

Unknown Person's point of view: I know that I shouldn't have left the letter. The note was enough to send a message. I just couldn't help it. Watching them on my computer screen. The way he was touching her, she was enjoying it. He's only supposed to touch me that way! That b**** has to pay! But... Losing my cool like that only puts the plan in danger. And we wouldn't want that! Jack's Point of view: The Island is even more beautiful than I remember. I've only visited once before when I was a child. Everything seems different, yet some things seem to never change. The palm trees are swaying in the breeze as we pass, and the coconut farmers are busy plucking the coconuts from the trees. I can smell the ocean, though we're almost to the middle of the Island and the sea is nowhere to be seen. The houses look like they were cookie cut out of the stone. All of them are tan stone with touch patches you can feel when you touch the outer walls, with a roof made with red stone shingles. It's beautiful the way the morning sun shines through the gaps between them. As I'm enjoying the view I can see as I drive through the neighborhood, I can't help but wonder what Joanna thinks of all of this. Joanna's Point of view: We're finally out of the hotel. Jack is driving and I'm grateful for it because I can enjoy the view this time. There's a lot of coconuts on the trees, I can see people on long ladders picking them and throwing them down into baskets. We appear to be driving through a neighborhood now, there's a group of children playing in one of the yards we just passed by. The houses all look the same, they are all square looking with tan sides that appear to be made out of stone of some kind. The roofs are made with the cutest looking hand made red stone shingles. But if you look close you can see each person's individuality on them. The one with the children has a short fence, made out of the same stuff as the house. There are 2 soccer goal posts, one at each end of the yard. Their door is painted green and has a beautiful handmade wooden wreath hanging on it. The house next to that one has a red painted door and a row of roses out front. The one beside that has green a painted door as well, however this one is adorned with a stained glass window with the picture of what appears to be a Parrot. The entire street lane has a long sidewalk going in between the houses and the road, it reminds me of home a little. The sun is just coming up from behind the houses and it makes them look like they're shining with a halo of light behind each one. I can smell the ocean, which seems odd to me because I can't see any sign of the ocean anywhere. The only sign that I'm not just crazy and hallucinating being a group of seagulls flying in circles in the sky off in the distance. I think they must be looking for breakfast. I'm excited with the anticipation of what we're going to do today. What even is there to do on an Island with a population of only 1000 people? 1 hour later: We're turning finally. And I can see the ocean again. I wonder where we're going? There's a mountain right in front of us. "So... Where are we going?" I sing song at Jack. He chuckles in response and says," you'll see! Be patient, it's a surprise." I just huff in response, I'm not very good with surprises. We're going down some kind of dirt trail, just wide enough for 2 cars to drive on. We stop at the foot of the mountain and Jack turns the car off and gets out. He walks around the car and opens my door. " We have to walk from here, My Love." He says offering me his hand to help me out of the vehicle. I accept his had and step out, looking around as he closes my door and goes to the trunk to get our stuff. There are new trees here that I hadn't seen on other parts of the Island. I think they look like they might be spruce trees. "Alright... Are you ready? It's a little bit of a ways away." Jack tells me as he walks back over carrying 2 backpacks and a picnic basket. "Here Love, it has everything your going to need for the hike." He continues as he hands me one of the packs. "Okay My Love."I reply while taking the backpack from him and putting it my arms through the shoulder straps so that the straps are lying on my shoulders and the pack is against my back snugly. "I'm ready when you are! Which way are we supposed to be going?" I ask when I'm ready. "Alright, follow me." He says as he turns and starts walking up a skinny rocky dirt trail that continues going up the mountain side. I follow behind him, keeping a safe distance so as not to bump into each other. I'm focusing on my husband in front of me, leading me along this treacherous feeling path, trying not to look anywhere else for fear of falling off the mountain. About halfway up the path transforms into the most beautiful meadow I've ever seen. Rows and rows of all colors of wild flowers cover it from corner to corner. They smell and look like they might be some sort of a crossbreed between a Daisy and a Lilly. "We'll stop here for lunch, so we can have a bit of a break. I brought the stuff for sandwiches and jugs of Sweet Iced Tea, I know it's your favorite." Jack says from beside me. "Sounds good to me! This place is so amazing!" I say in reply. He places down the picnic basket and pulls out a folder checkered red and white blanket, unfolding it. I grab one side to help him place it on the ground evenly. We sit on the blanket once it's situated and he proceeds to take things out of the basket. First to come out is a large loaf of bread, followed by cold cut meats and cheese slices. Next is a variety of topping from mustards to a jar of what looks like some kind of an aeoli and lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes and onions and slices of various types of peppers. He then takes out the cutlery and the plates along with one of the pitchers of tea and 2 small glasses. I'm overwhelmed with the emotions I'm feeling right now, this is so perfect and amazing! He remembered all my favorite things! I suddenly feel famished. He makes each of us a sandwich the way we like and we tuck in to eat.
