My Brother's Best Friend

The Bonfire

Caleb wiped his hands on his jeans. “I don’t know how I am going to control myself around you” He said looking down at me.

“Easy, just think of Caleb” I say trying to be smart.

I walked towards the light of the bonfire. I could hear laughing and music. Ben was right behind me. I pulled my hair to my left side. It was a quieter crowd than last night and I was happy about that. Hailey was excited to see me. She got up from Caleb’s lap to greet me. She had saved me a spot next to them. I sat down and Ben sat next to me on the other side. My phone dinged. It was a text from Riley.

Riley- Hey what are you up to pretty girl?

Lucy- I am at a bonfire with my brother and Hailey off campus.

I left Ben’s name out of it. I don’t know if it was because we can’t be anything at this time or if I didn’t want to make Riley jealous.

Riley- Sounds good, I am going to stay in tonight. It was a long day. If you want to do something when you are back let me know. Planning on working out in the morning?

Lucy- most likely, I'll text you when I am back if it's not too late.

“Do you want something to drink?” Asked Hailey.

“Sure what are you drinking?”

“I am doing a mixed vodka drink. And I am ready for a refill.”

“I’ll do the same.”

Hailey and Caleb got up to get refills and brought me a drink. I was listening to people talk about the upcoming semester, what the parties were going to be like at the fraternities. The Pi Kappa Alpha house was doing a handcuff party the next weekend after the football game. You are handcuffed to your partner and were able to get unlocked as soon as you finished a bottle of prosecco. “That's probably the one we will be heading to celebrate the post game win” Caleb said. That means Hailey will be going and probably dragging me to it. I wouldn’t mind having an excuse to see Ben.

As the night went on, I started to feel a pretty strong buzz. I got up to use the bathroom and that's when I noticed I was drunk. Hailey was occupied with Caleb and I didn’t want to bother her so I stumbled to the bathroom on my own. When I came out of the bathroom Ben was sitting by himself on a nearby couch. “You ready to head home?” He asked.

“I think so, are Caleb and Hailey ready?”

“Ya they want to go back to our house, you ok to go there or do you want me to drop you off at your dorm.”

I didn't really feel like running into Riley or catching Stacy and Bridget at the end of their party night.

“I can go back to the house with you guys.” I said.

I got in the front seat of Ben’s truck, Hailey and Caleb got in the backseat. They were making out both too tipsy to care that they were not alone. Ben didn’t say anything during the car ride home. When we got to the house, Caleb and Hailey went to his room and I took a seat on the couch.

“Do you want to watch a movie?” Ben asked. I nodded. “How about we go to my room, our other two roommates will be home and they will most definitely be stupid drunk.

We went up to Ben’s room. His room was clean and his bed was made. I took my shoes off and headed for the bed. He laid down and I sat up beside him. He turned his smart tv on and started to browse for movies. “What movie do you want to watch?” He asked.

“I don’t know, surprise me” I said.

He picked Superbad. I have seen it a few times, my brothers loved that movie. They would quote it all the time. I started to get sleepy and yawned.

“I don’t think Hailey will be leaving for your dorm tonight. I promise to be on my best behavior” Ben said as he got up and took his jeans, hoodie and tshirt off. This left him in plaid boxers, I couldn’t help but look at his abs. He was good looking and he knew it. I took Caleb’s hoodie off, leaving myself in leggings and a sports bra. I climbed into his bed under his covers.
