We were at what looked like a sports bar not far from campus. I was relieved because I was still in my moving clothes, a black legging and crop top set with an oversized jean jacket over the top. I had my long brunette hair down, but tamed it with my baseball cap and my sneakers. Pretty basic look, but I never cared what I look like.
“This place has the best food,” Eric said. “It is our go to spot. It's busy with the start of the school year but they will get us our food fast I promise.”
We all exited the car. As we walked, Ben was greeted by literally everybody. It was then I learned that he was starting quarterback. I then remembered Caleb talking about him, he was redshirted with him. The quarterback that was starting when Caleb was a freshman had two years left. This allowed Ben to practice and learn with the team his first year then be the backup quarterback last year before he started this year.
We sat down at a high rise table and a waitress immediately came over. Eric ordered a beer. Ben and Caleb ordered water, they are under very strict rules with the football team. I'm sure they drink but just not in a restaurant setting. I ordered water. I glanced at the menu while Eric asked Caleb and Ben questions about the team. It was a regular sports bar, Burgers, sandwiches and your basic salads.
The waitress returned with our drink orders and asked if we were ready to order. The boys all ordered a burger. I ordered a California burger and fries, knowing I would struggle eating with all the eyes staring at us.
“So are you planning on going to any parties this week? Have you decided if you are going to rush” Asked Caleb.
“Definitely not rushing and I was going to see what my roommate and suitemates are doing. They are all out to eat with their parents and we are meeting up at the dorm room after. I am kind of hoping we just stay in tonight. I'm exhausted.” I said
“Yes watching boys unpack your dorm room is exhausting” Eric nudged me laughing. “Do you plan to get your school books tomorrow? Do you know where the bookstore is?”
“I can figure it out, Riley is going to tag along and I want to check out the school gym.” I replied
“Who is Riley?” asked Caleb.
“He is a freshman that is rushing at my fraternity and helped Lucy move in.” answered Eric
“Ahhh I see you like them frat boys huh” Said Caleb.
“Not at all just the first person I met and he wanted to tag along” I replied.
“So what major are you going for?” Asked Ben.
“Accounting” I replied
“Wow, boring major, what made you pick that?” He answered back.
“Our dad has a company that little Lucy wants to take over. She is following in Matt’s footsteps. She practically is Dad’s shadow in the summer months.” Caleb said.
“I see” Said Ben.
The waitress dropped our food off and Caleb instantly grabbed his burger like he hadn't eaten all day.
“So you like the water I take it” said Caleb.
“Like it she loves it, always on the boat doing water sports or fishing. Can’t keep her away. She was a little swimming star at the high school too” Caleb said with a mouth full of food.
“We are not in any hurry Caleb, chew your food” Eric said.
I dumped some ketchup in my basket and dipped a fry.
“We are having a party tomorrow night” Said Eric. “Caleb you coming?”
“Yes, me and some of the boys will be there. It will be nice to meet some ladies before our first game” He said with a big smile. He was totally joking about meeting the ladies. Caleb was way too focused on football for that. “We will pick up Lucy on our way. I am making her get out of her comfort zone so she has no say in this.”
I figured I wasn’t going to be able to get away with staying in on my first Friday night at campus. “Can I bring my suitemates and roomates? I asked
“Of course you can, I was just going to mention it” said Eric. “There will be alcohol, and Ill be watching to be sure you drink responsibly.”
“I think I may have to swing by this party. It's been a long summer at training camp. Would be nice to have some fun before the season kicks off next weekend.” said Ben.
Caleb and Ben started discussing what they think the season will be like and I started in on my burger. I was hungrier than I thought and being with my brothers helped ease me from focusing on the staring girls that seemed to keep flocking near our table.
