CHAPTER TWO

1672 Words
REID's POV    I wave at Robert a close buddy as I board the plane. We toured Afghanistan side by side and saw a lot of horrible things together. Now he is going to take a two hour drive to see his family again.    I board the plane and head over to my seat, I put my carry-on up with other luggages, put on Headphones and get comfortable for the three hours flight back home.    My mind drifts to the main reason I am returning back home. My last tour in Afghanistan hit the hardest, my team lost four  good Soldiers; Joshua, Carlos, Chris and Antonio, in an ambush due to bad intel.    It was an 'In and out' rescue operation. The local terrorist group had abducted 25 young women from a close by village, our instruction was to move in and get them out.    We got there and we were attacked from all sides, by then it was too late to retreat. We returned fire, four of ours were hit during the crossfire.    The three of our Men died instantly but Chris barely conscious.    He was  rushed to our clinic at the barracks but he lost a lot of blood and didn't make the night . They were good men, seeing them drop down before my eyes broke something in me.     Loosing a soldier doesn't hurt any less than losing a brother.  This was not to even count the numerous wounded soldiers who lost limbs and body parts.  I barely escaped unscathed. I could barely sleep some night, I wake up in cold sweat, screaming, I can still smell the gun powder and feel the blood that dripped between my fingertips as I lifted the body of Carlos across my shoulders, we never left anybody behind; dead or alive.    He had been by far the quietest, a reserved young boy who had migrated from Mexico to New Jersey.  The only child of his single mother , once he graduated high school he enlisted to join the army, he had only wanted to fight for this country and bring honor to himself and his mother.    I swallow the feeling of deep grief and let my mind wander to better thoughts like my best buddy Luke.    We became friends when I was ten. Dad and I had just moved into the house next to theirs. I had looked outside and had seen a small blonde haired boy pushing a blonde haired girl in a blue dress in a makeshift swing and walked over to them.    "Hi, my name is Reid, I just moved into that house." I turned and pointed at the direction I had just come from.    "What's yours?."   The blonde haired girl in pigtails looked up at him with wide bright green eyes and a big goofy smile etched on her chubby face,    "My friends call me Sky, short for Skylar. You can call me Sky. You're going to be my new friend, this is my brother Luke, we can all be friends, yay"  as she talked rapidly with excitement her pigtails bounced with her movements.    "You want to play Soccer?." Luke asked.   "Yeah." I replied    "I'm going to tell mum about my new friend and ask if we can give him cookies" Sky screeched and she ran up the stairs to the house on her mission to tell everyone about her new friend.    That is how our lifelong friendship started, we became inseparable till this day.    When I made the decision to enlist and follow in my father's footsteps, Luke supported me all the way.    He always had my back.    We have been through some major things together. We are always there for each other.    I think back to the last time I was around two years ago, I came around for Christmas at Luke insistence although it was a short affair because I had to report back to the barracks the next day for a mission it remains one of my happier memories.    I think of little Sky with a smile, her freckled covered face, bouncy energy like she was on crack or some s**t, her sunny attitude and radiant smile could light up a room.    Each time I came home, she was never around which makes me think she is avoiding me.    The flight attendant comes back, tells us we are landing shortly and instructs people to refasten their seatbelts.    I step out and breathe in the clean air of my hometown, it feels good to be home and have my feet on solid ground. I walk over and carry my bag.    The arrangement a couple of days ago was for Luke to pick me up from the airport but something came up,!he had an important client he couldn't pass up.    He's a big shot lawyer so his busy schedule is understandable. Sky is going to be picking me up from the airport.    I walk out of the airport as I search for her with my eyes, my breathe slams out of my chest as I gaze lands on the most Beautiful woman I have ever seen.    My eyes take all of her in. From this distant I can't tell the color of her eyes, but her cute button nose, full pouty lips meant for long deep kisses, breasts that would fill my large hands quite nicely, she's clad in a tight fitting camisole, round perfect hips a man can hold on to enclosed in a flirty little skirt and killer set of legs that would look very good wrapped around my waist.    She is absolutely oblivious to the attention and stares she's getting. She looks like she's looking for someone.    I find myself walking towards her as I move my eyes back up slowly to look into a set of large green eyes, and shock registers on my face, I could never forget those eyes.    "Reid..." she calls out smiling.    "Skylar..?" I approach her .   Woah   Woahhhh   "In the flesh big man. Welcome home" she replies with a smile on her face.    I engulf her in a hug. Her hair smells like coconut, pineapples and woman.  It's a heady scent. I take a lot of it in. I put my bag into the car and we set out to drive to my house.    As she drives and chatters I can't help staring at her. She surely didn't look like this the last time I saw her and Luke never sent pictures of her while and I thought it would come off weird if I had asked for any. She looks up at me and smiles, I take a huge gulp of air, that smile.....    Lethal   "You are all grown up now love, how have you been?" I ask her.    I have genuinely missed her pure energy. She's all that is good in this world.    She blushes as she answers.    "I am twenty three now Reid, of course I'm grown."  She roll  her eyes .   "How has it been for you Reid?" She asks me with concern on her face.   "I have been both good and bad, but it is all over now. I'm back home to my favorite people." i say smiling.    I quickly change the conversation.    "How's your cupcake shop, love?"    "How did you know about that?" She asks with a little bit of surprise on her face.    "I have my ways. " I smirk jokingly   My source being her brother.   She laughs.   "I see you have been keeping tabs on me." I say to which i just shrug to.   "It is nice to have you back with us, Reid." She stares at me and then flashes a quick smile at me.   My eyes are riveted on her full plump pink lips. I think to myself if they would feel and taste how soft they look and immediately feel guilty. This is little Sky my Best friend's sister.    I move my eyes back to the road.    She plays around with the radio for a while and leaves it on a station where "yummy by Justin Bieber" plays and she sings along.   She drives me home.    As we arrive I alight from the car and get my bag from the trunk. I walk to the door and bend to withdraw the key from behind the potted plant beside the steps, open up the door and step into the house.    I walk up to my room with Sky trailing behind me, I glance around the room and nothing has changed from my posters of The Jonas brothers, the green alien themed sheets and trophies spewed around the room.    I sigh and drop backwards on the bed. Sky hovers around touching stuffs and picking stuffs up, she has been in here several times so she's quite familiar with everything.    " We are having dinner with Jasmine and Luke at Maggie's by 7. You should freshen up and rest a bit. I have to get back to the Shop. I feel bad for leaving Heather there alone all morning." Sky says with a slight frown on her face.    "Thanks for coming to get me Sky. See you at Dinner"    Sky hugs me goodbye and I feel a tingle in my privates.   She drives out of driveway and I walk over to the kitchen to fix myself a quick sandwich for lunch. Luke had thankfully stocked my fridge.   I bring out some bread, tomatoes, tuna, cabbage and a bottle of beer out on the counter.    When Sky hugged me goodbye my sleeping d**k rose in my pants.    I sigh.    I need to get laid. Maybe that's it. I am by no means celibate but It has been quite some time I felt a warm willing woman squirming beneath me. I rub a hand down my face and down the beer.    I look at the time. I need to get ready to make it to the restaurant on time.    I have heard great things about Jasmine ans I'm looking forward to meeting her today and catching up with my Luke after so long.
