Pilar’s head spun with the new information. Carlos knew. He told her. But Pilar dismissed him as a crazy man. Mostly because he was. But he was right. Juan was working with the US government to bring down Carlos and the entire organization.
And it got him killed.
“How could you let him do this?” she hissed. “You were supposed to keep him safe. Isn’t that how things like this work? He promises to give you information and you keep him alive! And you what? Just let him walk away with the most evil man I’ve ever met in my life. How could you?”
Pilar was more angry than she’d ever been in her life. They lied to her. Every single one of them. They told her they would help her and let her rattle on about Carlos being after her. They tried to make it sound like she was wrong, but she didn’t
