CHAPTER 12: WHERE IS HE?!
LUNCH arrived, but Jade didn't even bother to come out of her room. She wanted to be alone for a while, and she's sure that getting out of the room and seeing Lewis or Eisen around the area will eventually ruin her mood.
Just thinking about them destroyed her peace of mind! How can she relax without thinking about them?
Jade is sure that Lewis didn't leave yet since she didn't hear the helicopter leave. And she's convinced that he'll just go home once he gets the chance to talk to her. But Jade is grateful for Lewis not leaving yet because Jade would hate the idea of preparing a meal for Eisen while they're still arguing. She's scared that she might put poison on his food and kill him on the spot.
She was still on the bed, covered with the thick blanket, absentmindedly staring at the ceiling as the sunlight brightens some of the things inside. Jade wanted to say sorry for shouting at Lewis and Eisen, but what she said is an eye-opener for the young men to let her understand them. However, everything ended up confusing.
She even failed to notice the presence of maids that arrived with Lewis earlier. Did they already leave without anyone noticing?
__________
"SHOULD WE knock on her door?" Lewis worriedly asked after they prepared a meal for three.
"Should we?" Eisen asked as they both stayed in front of Jade's room, arguing about knocking on the door or not.
Lewis nodded at his brother and took a deep breath before raising his hand to knock on the door. However, Eisen signaled him to stop because it might be a bad thing to disturb her. "What? We can't let her stay there until midnight! She'll starve!"
"But what if she's still mad? We'll get another scolding for sure."
"Whatever. I'll knock and call Jade to eat with us. J—" Lewis had not finished what he wanted to say when the door suddenly opened, and the young woman stared at Eisen's brother.
"WILL YOU FREAKING SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE?! THE LAST THING I WANTED TO DO NOW IS TO TALK TO THE BOTH OF YOU!!" Eisen nearly dropped his heart down to his stomach when Jade shouted, following a loud slam from the door. Lucky for both of them, Jade didn't turn out to be a monster and eat them.
Eisen then punched Lewis's stomach as soon as the door closed in front of them. Eisen then returned to the dining table, followed by Lewis, who can't get his tongue. None of them talked or even touch the food. They just stayed quiet as if it's a sin to speak. Eisen was about to break the silence when Lewis's attention diverted to his pocket when his phone vibrated.
Lewis excused himself as soon as he saw the caller ID, leaving him alone for a while. He wanted him not to go, but Eisen had no choice since they were talking business here. Duty calls, he supposed.
He was already alone. The surrounding was quiet, and Eisen seems to be distracted with the silence. She had been talking to the young woman for a week, so she was used to her talking to him, even just the nonsense details she could come up with just to entertain him. Then his heart began to hammer like the horses' gallops, making him unable to breathe correctly. He clenched his fist and slowly hit his chest where his heart is. He gasps for air as silence clouded his ears. Guilt has driven him, and that's because he's an ass towards Jade whenever she tried to be close to him.
Eisen was scared the moment Jade told him that his brother hired her to be his fake wife. A chill run down his spine as his blood runs cold while looking directly in her eyes, and there she saw her sincerity, her honesty. Eisen shrugged the thought off as he calmed himself, convincing himself that Jade was just telling him that so that he'll sign the divorce paper.
But he won't be the only one. Not even in his dreams. Because the divorce paper is what keeps them tied together, and together he'll hold onto that until he remembers everything.
"Brother, I need to go back," he raised his gaze and looked at Lewis, rapidly approaching him as he put his phone in his pocket. "The company needs me. It was an urgent matter. I'll come back next time once I got a clear schedule. Eat your lunch and,"
Lewis started rummaging through the shelves, and when he saw the medicine kit, he prepared Eisen's medicine before placing the dishes into the sink and immediately washed the used plates. After that, Lewis grabbed his coat and patted him on the shoulder.
"All right. Please be careful on your way back," he replied to his brother as he let him walk towards Jade's room and lightly knocked on the door.
"Don't forget to call if something bad happened. And make sure Jade doesn't skip her meal," he said and confronted Jade's door. "I'm going to leave Jade. Make sure to take care of yourself and my brother. Please don't skip your meals just because my brother and I were acting like shits,"
Lewis checked his watch and waved his hand towards him, indicating that he needs to hurry. Then the helicopter's rotor blades started to move, suggesting that they are ready to go.
Eisen moved his wheelchair and stared at his brother's back, slowly decreasing as it approached the helicopter. He took the brother to the door. When it got into its private chopper, it waved at his presence before the aircraft.
After that, the chopper took off, finally flying freely up in the sky as the air around became heavy and slowly became a soft, gentle breeze. Lewis is gone.
Eisen returned inside the house and took the medication on the table that Lewis had prepared. He was lucky to have Lewis as his brother. He hoped that Lewis is also grateful to have him.
His eyes landed on Jade's room as he heavy a deep sigh. Will she come out? He's still guilty, and this guilt is eating him alive.
And he hated himself for that.
__________
JADE IS HUNGRY. Who wouldn't after spending the whole afternoon inside a room just to avoid crossing paths with the boys, right? And it was already 9 in the evening. It was already late, but she had no choice. She'd rather eat her pride rather than dying on the island out of starvation.
She slowly sneaked out of her room while slowly walking so that she won't wake the young man up. As soon as she reached the kitchen, she immediately looked for something to eat.
Adobong sitaw, paksiw, pinakbet, sinigang, fried tilapia clouded Jade's mind with Filipino dishes as her mouth started to water. She opened the Tupperware she saw, but the smile on her face suddenly disappeared after realizing that there's no food left anywhere. What about Eisen? Did he already eat dinner?
So, she had no other choice but to tie her hair into a bun and cook something she wanted to eat so bad, shrugging Eisen out of her mind.
It took her a couple of minutes to cook her favorite adobong sitaw before she sat on the chair as she stared and the food she just cooked. The sweet aroma of string beans perfectly combined with the finely cooked meat was the best thing she could ask! It's like, it's been a decade since she last ate adobong sitaw.
"Thank you, Lord, for the food, Amen." She shortly prayed before she devoured the food in front of her.
As soon as she finished eating, he quickly washed the dishes she used and intended to back to the bedroom when he saw Eisen's door.
The door to Eisen's room is slightly open, and that made Jade curious.
She approached the door and slowly opened it only to be greeted by a dark room. Her eyes landed on the open lampshade on the bedside table, the only source of light visible inside the room. She slowly approached the lamp to avoid waking up the young man. As soon as she stood beside the lampshade, she immediately closed it and was about to leave when she realized that something was odd inside the room.
She walks back to where the lampshade is and opened it without hesitation to find out that the room was empty! Eisen is not lying on his bed nor sitting on it. Jade immediately walked towards the bathroom, hoping that he was just using it, but the young man was not inside. She even checked the walk-in closet, but Eisen is missing! Where is he?!
The nervousness in Jade's chest will soon cause her a heart attack if she failed to look for Eisen. Her heartbeat was fast, and her hands shook in fear as she thought about possible places where he could find him. "Eisen?!" she shouted and shouted as she went outside the room and went to the living room. But he's not in there.
"EISEN!" she yelled nonstop when she couldn't see Eisen inside the house. She ran out of the house, and she realized that Eisen or whoever got out forgot to lock the door. Can he be kidnapped?! That's impossible to happen!
She ended up looking at the cottage-like area where Eisen usually hangs out for his 'alone time' because Jade is sure that Eisen would love to go and stay there for a while. So, when Jade arrived in the area, she could adequately breathe when she saw Eisen in his usual position, gazing at the surrounding.
Jade ran to the table and immediately bent and touched her knees as she gasps for air when she's already in front of the young man. Eisen curiously looked at her as Jade pointed her point the finger at his face.
"What are you doing here?!"
"Ouch! What was that for?" Jade didn't finish what the young man would say when she beat him on the shoulder.
"Do you know I almost lost consciousness when I realized you weren't in your bedroom?!"
"Jade—" Eisen laughed, but Jade ignored it. She was upset with the young man because he didn't even say he was going out, but here he was, enjoying what was happening to her.
"Don't you dare, Jade Jade me because I'm going to strangle you to death once you do this kind of stupid things again!" she yelled at him, but Eisen started to cry his heart out without even bothering how worried Jade was when he left without informing her.
"Can you stop shouting? It's a beautiful night, and it would be a waste when you keep on being like that," she's not used to Eisen being so relaxed and calm when she's shouting. But how grateful she was because he didn't scream back at her.
"How can I not worry about you?! Do you think I would like to go to jail just because you didn't inform me that you're coming outside?! You don't know how you made me worried so much when I saw you're not inside your room!?!"
"Are you peeking inside my room?"
"Yes!" when the young man smiled there, Jade realized what he answered the young man's question. So he immediately opened it with an eye. "No! I just happened to see your room door opened, and the lampshade inside isn't turned off! Do you know how much it costs to the electricity bill when you let your lights opened?! Like you even cared!" she rolled her eyes as she looked away from Eisen.
"Well, your body says the opposite of what you're telling me right now."
"What do you mean?" she asked him, filled with irritation. His eyes sparkle as he looked at her, locking gaze with Jade.
"Because you're blushing wife... And you look so adorable when you blush."
