CHAPTER 11: THE TRUTH Jade closed the kitchen door as soon as she entered the house, hoping to be unnoticed by Eisen. The reason why she decided to enter through the kitchen door is that she knew that Eisen would be waiting for them to return home, whenever she and Lewis went, on the front door. Besides, Jade wanted nothing but not to see Eisen or Lewis or anyone who wished to visit. She wanted to be alone and meditate for a while to attain tranquility. Jade's heart is still beating fast like she's been in a marathon. And she needs to calm down before the St. Clair brothers started to bother her again. Lucky for her, Lewis didn't follow her immediately because if he does, she won't be able to control herself and punch him in the face without excuses. What they talked about was something she wished she could just take her mind off. Lewis's words still linger in the back of her head, making her unable to think straight. If Lewis could've handled the situation better by burning, or hiding, away all of Alicia and Eisen's photos, then she could've avoided being part of the wheel that Lewis was manipulating. But because of not having any other choice to escape, she ended up where she is now and making herself struggle for almost a lifetime. "What did you talk about?" "Flippin' shiznit!" Jade shouted out of surprise as she stayed in her place, letting her heart sink into her stomach. Jade's heart was singing with shock as she stared behind her, darting her attention at Eisen, who was waiting for her. "And what the f**k does that suppose to mean now? Why do you keep on saying words I can't fully understand?" Jade rolled her eyes, dishearted as she looked at Eisen, who is furiously talking to her. "It's a habit of mine to control my cursing, so don't bother knowing what do my words mean because I'm cursing in an environmentally friendly way. But please, please, please," Jade begged, "Don't sneak up on me like that. Ever again!" She's in no mood to start an argument with Eisen or even talk to him today, but she's so stressed out! And once Jade is tired, her rebellious lousy attitude always gets in her way. The St. Clair brothers did nothing but to bring her problems that she shouldn't let herself meddle. Thanks to them, her life became miserable! "I asked you what did you and my brother talked about?! Stop avoiding the question, and f*****g answer me!" Eisen sounded like he wasn't asking; instead, he commanded her to answer his question that Jade doesn't wish to reply. Being his usual irritating self, Jade just took a deep breath and clenched her fist to lower down her anger. She's really not in the mood to talk, so she shrugged Eisen's question off of her shoulder and walked away from him. But before she could even walk past through, the young man reached out to her and harshly pulled her wrist, making her stop from leaving him behind. "I'm still talking to you, Jade!" Eisen shouted at her like it became a part of their communication to scream whenever they feel like doing it. "We talked about your condition, okay?" she answered with a bored tone, uninterested in answering. "You think I will believe that?! Don't fool around me, Jade!" Eisen raised his voice to show Jade that he's mad. She didn't want to start trouble, but her head was ready to explode out of the madness. "What do you want to hear from me?!" the young man was right that she wasn't telling the truth. But she doesn't have other choices but to tell a lie, and besides, they were talking about his condition. She can't just tell Eisen what she and Lewis talked about earlier, not now, because it's still confidential and better for Eisen not to know at the moment. "Are we married?! You always act like a crazy b***h in front of me!" Jade laughed slightly at Eisen's remark. CRAZY b***h?! She's been doing everything she can so that Eisen wouldn't complain about her work. But being called a crazy b***h?! And take note, Eisen kept on doubting about her being his wife and everything. That doesn't matter to Jade, but his words were irritating her for too long. Does no one know anything to ask him if it's not those phrases?! She snatched her hand away from the young man and greeted the fire in his disgruntled eyes. He was furious but so is she! "Why do you always doubt me being married to you? Do you remember everything now?!" she asked as they locked eye contact. Neither of them wanted to give up. "Don't answer my question with another goddamn question, Jade!" "Fine! Want to know the truth?!" Eisen wanted to know the truth? Fine! If he badly wanted to hear the fact, then she won't refrain herself from telling everything to put an end to this madness finally! "Miss Guevara!" she was about to speak when her attention turned to Lewis's, approaching like a bullet in their location. Lewis has been yielding gestures that she doesn't understand. But she concluded that the signs mean that 'she should just stop because this is not the right time to tell Eisen the truth.' "Jade, please. Stop what you're planning to do, and let's talk." But Jade didn't bother listening to Lewis; instead, she placed her thumb on her throat and slightly moved it from left to right as if she would slit Lewis's throat if he doesn't stop with her intention. She wanted to get rid of her involvement in the St. Clair family, and doing the right thing is the only solution she had in mind. She faced Eisen and directly looked into eyes full of desperation to know the truth. And today, she's giving him what he wanted all along, "I was never your wife and will never be. Your family who wanted nothing but for you to stop playing around, you dagnabbit, and get a life worth living hired me to be your FAKE WIFE!" she shouted at the top of her lungs when Lewis cut her off. "Shut the f**k up, Jade! You're not helping on the situation!" Lewis may be angry at her now, but that doesn't matter anymore. It was her fault because she agreed to be the caregiver, and now, she was begging for Eisen's torture. Perhaps, being his caregiver won't work out well because he brought out the worst in her, and it's up to Eisen to sign the divorce paper or kick her out of there. "Don't be so noble around your brother, you fiddlestick! If you didn't hide those marriage photos inside that freakin' room, then my life would still be the same! Do you know how much courage I took in just to be his fake wife?! Of course, you don't because you don't care about anyone's feelings! You've been a sufferin’ succotash way back so go lick a duck, you mother trucker!" she shouted back as she stared and him, making him unable to respond. She's furious at Lewis, but she was exhausted because of the two men in front of her. However, despite getting angry, Jade could still control her language and unconsciously dropped down curse words commonly used when kids are around. Jade focused her attention back at Eisen, and he seemed disturbed. Good because if he's not bothered, then she doesn't know what to do anymore. "I'm just the fake wife, Eisen... The funny thing about it is that I took the opportunity to deceive you because you and your family are rich! You're right all along because all I wanted from you is your money! And all I need to do is stand beside you and act like the original wife." She wanted to laugh at the gentlemen's expression. She didn't expect to reveal everything sooner. She didn't know that scenes like these from movies would be a little dramatic but guess what? They are not in a freaking fantasy! Lewis stood there like a statue while Eisen couldn't find the right words to connect to create a response accurate to what Jade said. He was regretting everything because the situation would never do Jade good. So, she held her chin up, stood straight, and marched away from Lewis and Eisen as she conditioned herself to go to her room and pack her things. And when she stood in front of her room, she took a deep breath and held the doorknob with trembling hands. "Y-you're l-lying." Jade stopped when she heard the young man's calm voice. When she looked at Eisen, Lewis was also staring at her. The situation became awkward as the place fell silent. They waited for anyone to speak until Eisen moved his wheelchair and faced Jade. "You can only say that because you want me to sign the divorce paper!" Jade's brows furrowed as she unexpectedly looked at Eisen, who angrily looked at her. His gaze bothered her a little, but she didn't let herself fall into his trap. She smiled wickedly at the gentleman before replying, "Well, this is an unexpected turn of events." Jade walked towards Eisen and grabbed him by the collar, and harshly pulled him closer to her, "Don't you think it's a little unfair for my part when I told you that I am your wife, but you ended up not believing? And now that I'm telling you, wholeheartedly, that I am not your wife, you still don't believe me and even called me a liar? What do you want to believe?" Their gaze lingers to each other for a moment before Jade lets go of Eisen's collar, "Whatever you believe doesn't concern me anymore." She then pointed her finger towards Lewis, "Tell him to sign the divorce paper yourself because I am done in here! Spare me from your family dramas because you're making me exhausted I am exhausted! Argh!" Jade walked back to her room like a dignified woman without looking back at them. She just wanted to get rid of them by excluding herself from their problems. Jade wasn't supposed to be dealing with their issues, but here she was, picking her nose at other's businesses. As she slammed the door behind her, causing a loud thud, she exhaled as she let herself slowly fall on the cold tile. She hugged her knees that started to feel numb just now as she recalled what happened earlier. She uttered the truth to Eisen! And a part of her was angry for doing that. But as she remembered how Eisen reacted, telling her that she's just lying, she can't help herself but feel at ease because Eisen didn't instantly believe her. Whether she liked it or not, she's scared to leave him. She's worried about not seeing him again. __________ "MIND telling me what happened?" Lewis immediately asked as soon as Jade slammed the door behind her, leaving both alone, still dumbfounded by what happened. Unknown pain clouded Eisen's thoughts as his brother moved towards the chair facing the dining table. If his brother had not spoken yet, he would still be held captive by his thought. He turned to his brother, now sitting in front of the table. "Don't you think I should be the one to ask you that?" Eisen questioned back, wanting to blame his brother for what happened. Jade seemed to not be in the mood when she entered the house after her talk with Lewis. Now his life seemed to fly away from his body after letting his mind digest what Jade told him. And the woman is right because right now, he didn't know what to believe. "I'm just the fake wife, Eisen... The funny is that I took the opportunity to deceive you because you and your family are rich! You're right all along because all I wanted from you is your money! And all I need to do is stand beside you and act like the original wife." Her words were like an arrow that pierced right through his heart. Now, he felt guilty for provoking Jade. But the word Fake? What an absurd statement to weaken him. "You are shouting at her when I entered the house. Shouldn't you explain to me what happened and why were you shouting at your wife like that?" Lewis asked while his brother looked at him while he was looking at the door where Jade entered. Yes, his brother was right: he was the one shouting while Jade fought the urge not to shout back. She managed to refrain from arguing, but because of Eisen's persistence, everything went way downhill. "She wasn't in a good mood when she entered the house, Lewis. I knew something was off, and I just wanted to know what happened while you were both outsides. So, why don't you tell me what happened while you were talking earlier? I bet you have a good alibi to save your ass out," He wanted to shout at Lewis, but controlling his anger is essential. Getting mad for no apparent reason is not helpful at all. "God." Lewis drew his palms on his face as he remained seated. Silence followed after that. Eisen heard not a single word from his brother while they let their minds speak for themselves. The birds chirping, scourging ocean, and trees dancing were the sound that filled inside the house. Eisen thought they would stay silent more prolonged than usual when Lewis suddenly stood up from his seat. His brother took significant steps towards Jade's door, but Eisen stopped him by holding his wrist. "Where are you going?" "I'm going to talk to her." he casually replied. They stared at each other for a while before Eisen let go of his brother's wrist. But it hadn't taken a slight moment when he spoke again. "No..." he answered. "It's better to leave Jade alone. Because the moment she opens that door, she will be okay. We can talk to her after that." The best way to escape from getting shouted at is to let that person cool off. And that is what Eisen learned while staying with Jade. Lewis didn't respond, but he immediately went to the living room to watch some tv. He shortly followed his brother as Lewis picked up the remote control and opened the tv. He immediately stopped looking for channels when cartoons flashed on the screen. Lewis and Eisen looked at each other as the cartoon 'Teen Titans,' a group of superhero teens who are clumsy, silly, and stupid, trying to save the world to create a better place, began flashing on the screen. And at that moment, without saying a word, Eisen remembered that it was his favorite pastime with his brother. He took the sandwich that Jade had prepared earlier and observed it. A sad smile formed on his lips as he took a large bite of the peanut butter sandwich. Eisen hoped to talk to the woman later if she wants to talk to him, even for the last time.
