CHAPTER 8, part IV: LOVE YOU TOO! "WELL, I'm okay here at home. Your siblings take good care of me. How is your job? Are you taking good care of him? He's not doing anything bad to you?" her smile immediately disappeared when Jade remembered what had happened to her and Eisen earlier. She can feel her cheeks burning at the thought of it. Butterflies are also racing in her stomach. What is happening to her? "My job is still the same. Nothing has changed for the past few years, I supposed. Anyway, can I talk to Janus and Janni? I missed scolding them." scolding is not the thing that Jade misses with her brothers, but being a sister to them. "Sis! How is your love life? Still single and not ready to mingle?" Janus and Janni shouted at the same time. She stopped herself from chuckling by rolling her eyes in disapproval of their statement. If others know her better, it was her supportive brothers who love to make fun of her. "Do you take good care of mom?" "Of course! We're doing it for the sake of our gifts this Christmas—OUCH! Mom, what was that for?" Jade held back a laugh when she heard her siblings answer at the same time again. But this time, they both received a slap on the head by their dearest mother. Serves them right, Jade whispered to herself while listening to Janni and Janus's sorry tone. Janni and Janus are not twins, but they get the 'You're twins?!' statement a lot. Janus is in 1st-year college, while Janni is still in 10th grade. "Just make sure that you're taking care of mom; otherwise, I'll kick you out of the house and convince mom to disown you for good once I get back there." she threatened them, and her mom laughed at them. "Even if you come back now, sister, because we've done packing our bags." Suppose there is one thing that Jade needed to control whenever she's around Janni and Janus is, to force herself not to laugh at her brothers. They never failed to make her happy, and Jade is thankful for having them both. Janni may be gay, but the family accepts him. Janni sometimes gets bullied for what he is, but Janus was always there to protect him. She missed them so much because she has not been able to go home for a long time. But after three months, she would be able to see them again. "You'd prefer to abandon me instead of taking good care of me?!" Their mother shouted from the other line, followed by her brothers' whimpering sound, stopping their mom from putting tension on their ears. "WE'RE SORRY!" "MOM, COME ON! WE ARE JUST KIDDING!" "THEN, IT'S NOT FUNNY AT ALL!" If Jade were with them, everything could've gotten worse. She could've punched her brothers and punish them for being bad kids. "Mom, let them go. They were just the spoiled brats they used to be. Anyway, if you need more money, don't hesitate to reach out, okay?" Jade heard from the other side how her mom mumbled before releasing her younger brothers. "Yes, my dear sweet Unica Hija. With the groceries that we received today, we will survive for a month or two. I'm so glad that I gave birth to someone like you. not like these ungrateful bastards," she remembered; it must be Lewis who sent them groceries. But isn't it too soon for him to be sending her family? Is this some early payment? "We're still here, mom. You know that we can still hear you, right? You always act like this when Jade talks. You're so unfair!" "If you want me to praise both of you, start acting like good kids!" "All right. I'll be going back to work now. I love you so much, mom. Be careful there." "You should be the one to take good care of yourself, okay? I'm expecting to see you soon. I'll give the phone to your brothers now so you could say goodbye to them." if she could teleport her way back to her hometown, she could've done it to hug her mom. Jade missed her so much. "Okay, mom," she replied, wiping her tears away, not wanting to hang up the phone. A few more minutes. Just a little bit longer. "Are you going to work? We just talked for like 2 minutes?" Janus asked, a bit disappointed for Jade to leave that early. "Yeah. Two minutes break is super unfair. If I were you, I'd start screaming at my clients and immediately quit the job. Like really? We still didn't get any juicy details from you and your 'new patient.'" Janni then followed, voice filled with bitterness, and Jade could understand her brother's sadness, but Jade hoped they could also understand her situation. If only they knew. "Stay a few more minutes, please?" they begged, and Jade imagined her brothers plastering their puppy eyes so that she could grant their wishes. "Let your sister go to work, you ungrateful brats!" their mom shouted, and she bitterly smiled as she stared at the surrounding. "All right, mom. Bye, sis! Don't forget to rest. Love you!" Janus shouted on the other line, which Janni followed. "Hope to see you soon! make sure to bring your boyfriend!" "Take good care, you two! And make sure mom's healthy. Love you too." after saying goodbye to each other, Jade sent a flying kiss to them as if her cellphone instantly became a portal for them to receive it. After that, she turned off the call and took a deep breath while savoring the very fresh wind. Fresh air, but why did the surroundings suddenly cool down? "Who are you talking to?" Jade almost dropped her phone when she heard the young man's voice behind her. That's the reason why the surroundings became cold: because Eisen is already close to him. With his cold aura, snow will soon be inevitable here in the Philippines if he keeps on doing that. "It is none of your business. Why are you here? I thought you wanted to stay there longer?" she asked the young man in astonishment. "Why? Am I not allowed to come here?" he answered back, still with his cold tone and his deadly aura. Jade rolled her eyes at his answer. Is he still angry at what she did? But even though he is angry, he has no right to eavesdrop! Jade did not bother to answer the young man, and she walked behind him so that she could bring Eisen to his room when suddenly the young man held his hand tightly to stop him from walking. "What do you want?" he was in a good mood ... Earlier ... But after learning that Eisen eavesdropped on her conversation with her family, her blood suddenly boiled. If there is something Jade hated the most from people, they love to stick their noses into other people's businesses, which Eisen is doing. "I want you to tell me the truth!" he asked with an authoritative tone. Is it part of the requirement that before you became the boss of a company that earned billions of dollars, you need to be so bossy? "I have no obligation to tell you everything. If you want, squeeze your brain so you can remember everything." Jade noticed that the young man seemed to remember something. The only problem is that he does not know what the young man already knows. And if he had something to say here, Jade will surely break the plan. "I want to know who you are talking to on the phone. Is it hard to tell me?!" Eisen was angry. His grip on her wrist tightened, and the tone of his voice rose. Jade is not doing anything wrong. But why is the young man angry with her? "You don't need to know, okay? And please, let me go," she answered with boredom. Her blood is boiling, and she has no intention of getting angry with the young man. Because when she gets angry, she can utter a word that no one will want to hear. Eisen did not say comment and let go of his hand. Finally! Jade said to herself and quickly walked behind him and grabbed the wheelchair before walking through the paved path towards the house. He was about to go straight to his room when suddenly he could no longer push the wheelchair. What happened? She looked to see if anything was blocking its wheels but nothing. Jade tried to push it again, but it didn't work. Eisen can't damage the wheelchair so quickly because it is expensive and it even comes from another country. Only Eisen uses it, and even though the young man is heavy, that is not a reason for the wheelchair not to work. "What's wrong? Why did we stop?" the young man asked. The tone of its voice is not surprised; otherwise, he seemed glad. And Jade appears to know what is going on. It looks like the young man is playing tricks with her again. He stood up straight and went in front of Eisen. She is outraged and has no plans to restrain herself. If Eisen is annoyed with Jade for forcing her to take medicine, he should take medicine independently. Why does he even have to torture her so much? Is he happy to see her wasting time? "I told you before, if you don't like my service, sign the divorce paper, and I will look for a replacement. Isn't it easy to end that way instead of making the situation worst?" if Eisen's already irritated by her presence, then he should do something to stop seeing Jade! He did nothing but annoy her. And Jade is hoping that Eisen would eventually sign the divorce paper. "Wow. How fierce you are." Eisen was smiling. No. Eisen was grinning, mocking her with his deadly cold tone. "Don't get into my nerves, Eisen. I've been very patient with you because I'm trying my best to help you recover. But if you keep on pressing my buttons, you won't be able to stop me once I explode." A little more patience, Jade. Just a little bit more. Amusement was evident in the young man's eyes. He sure loves what he's seeing. And that annoyed Jade more. "Haven't I told you before? I'm here to bring you hell. Lucky enough, I was able to get on your nerves. Look at you, already burning." This time, Jade was the one to smirk. She brought her face close to Eisen's until they were only a few inches away from each other. "You can't bring me to hell, Eisen. Because the moment you make me mad, expect to see how long have I grown my horns are. Expect me to be the hell you're looking for." __________ JADE cannot sleep. After feeding the young man earlier for dinner, they stopped talking. Lucky for her, Eisen cooperated on eating and taking his medicines. It was already 11:38 in the evening, and Jade can't put herself to sleep. This afternoon, her body wanted to lay down all day and just rest for hours. The pain started to clothe her as soon as dinner has ended. Jade's been having mood swings all day, but she was able to restrain herself from doing anything that might trigger her anger. All thanks to the young man who happened to decide not to irritate her longer. She already checked her temperature, but her body temp is average. Medicine is not a good option at the moment until she knows how he feels about his body. She decided to drink milk before returning to his room, thinking that this is just a cause of stress. But she stopped on her tracks for a moment and looked at the door of Eisen's room. There is nothing wrong with checking the young man, is there? Jade slowly opened the door of Esien's room. The young man's lamp was still on while he's placidly hugging a book or a diary or something like that. She went inside and observed the young man sleeping peacefully. His handsome face seems angelic, but looks can be deceiving after all. Jade fully understood now what it felt like when protagonists from stories described other leading characters whenever they're sleeping. This is that feeling. But instead of staring at the young man for a long time because his kiss kept playing on her mind, Jade decided to take the book out of Eisen's hand. When she successfully took the old book from Eisen, she immediately placed it on the bedside table and closed the lamp, letting the room wrapped with twilight. She took one last glimpse at Eisen before she decided to depart the area and took off to her room to grab some sleep.
