The rich aroma of roasted coffee beans filled the air at The Crescent Café, a quiet Muslim-owned spot downtown. Zara sat at a corner table, her laptop open next to a half-eaten almond croissant. She kept glancing at the door, her fingers tapping nervously on the wooden tabletop. It had been four days since the awkward family meeting at her house. Now, meeting Zayd without their parents felt completely different. It felt real.

The glass door chimed, and Zayd walked in. He wore a casual grey hoodie and carried a heavy backpack. When he spotted her, his tense expression melted into a warm, relieved smile. He walked over, pulling out the chair across from her.

"Assalamu Alaikum," he said, setting his laptop down. "Sorry I'm a few minutes late. Traffic near the mosque was terrible."

"Walaikum Assalam," Zara replied, closing her notebook to give him her full attention. "Don't worry about it. I just ordered a mint tea for you. I remembered you said you don't drink coffee after 4 PM."

Zayd blinked, looking genuinely touched. "You remembered that? Wow, thank you. Most people think I’m crazy for turning down caffeine."

Zara smiled, opening her spreadsheet. "Well, an organized mind remembers details. And we need to be highly organized today. I brought the full framework for the clinic's therapeutic goals. If your software is going to track patient progress, you need to understand exactly how we measure growth in these kids."

For the next hour, the awkwardness completely disappeared. They leaned over their screens, their shoulders almost touching. Zayd listened intently as Zara explained the emotional and psychological needs of her future patients. He didn't just nod along; he asked deep, insightful questions that showed he truly cared about the families they wanted to help. Zara found herself looking at his focused expression, realizing there was a lot more to this "nerdy data analyst" than she first thought.
