Lexy's Pov The sun rays shone at me, making me feel uncomfortable. I pressed my eyes and was forced to open it, making me hum in discomfort. I traced where the sun was coming from to see that it was from a full length window. Turning, I saw a bedside table and felt the sweet comfort of the bed, my eyes squeezing in confusion as to where I was. I shot up from the bed and was mesmerised at how beautiful the bedroom looked. But then it hit me, this shouldn't be where I should be and it definitely didn't look familiar to me. The last place I was was in the forest, almost killed by a werewolf and now this? I walked to the glass doors and stepped to the balcony to see how green and serene the environment was. It was like an estate but people dressed like maids and guards were carrying out their duties. “What is this place?” I muttered to myself. The entrance to the bedroom opened and in walked a maid that came in with some clothes. “Oh, my lady! You're finally awake,” she said enthusiastically and happily? Wait, Finally? How long have I been out? “Who are you? And what do you mean by finally?” I asked because sincerely I didn't know what was going on. “Where is this place?” “Oh, my name is Miranda and I'm assigned to you as your personal maid. You were out for over two weeks now even though your sprained ankle was healed earlier and I don't even understand why…” She was rambling and I didn't know if she was this talkative but strangely I felt like she was nervous. “And, this is the Shadow Crest Pack,” she finished, breathing heavily now. Wait, Pack? “Do you mean like a werewolf pack?” I asked and she nodded. A sort of glee ran through me. I was right after all, they existed and now, I could finally ask around about dad. “Also, there's someone who would be so glad you're awake. I'll be back my lady,” she said and ran off even before I could ask who it was. I sat on the bed and looked around when her shriek made me flinch. But then, a smile crept into my face. “Lexy! You're awake!” Sunny ran to me and enveloped me in a hug, her tears dropping on my back. “I… I thought I’d lose you,” she said sniffing. I was touched, moved to tears even as I embraced my friend. After what happened in the forest, I thought that was my end. I thought I was going to die and never see my friend again. “No, I thought I lost you,” I said back to her. After our brief moment, we caught up on how we ended up here and how Sunny already had a crush on someone named Beta Alec. She also told me about a Lycan King that rescued us and how warm he has been to her, adding that I was his mate. “Mate? What does that mean?” I asked in confusion. Sunny went on to tell me all the basics about werewolves and I was surprised to see my best friend who was nonchalant about this trip so knowledgeable about the things of this world and even thrilled about it. A knock came on the door, disrupting Sunny's unending rambling about Beta Alec and I was kind of grateful for it. “Hey…” His soft but masculine voice came out, gaining our rapt attention. “I heard you woke up.” He has gray eyes that draw attention—calm, stormy, and full of quiet intensity. His well-built frame reflected strength and discipline, the result of years of commitment. With a strong jawline, dark hair, and a composed confidence in his move, he carried a magnetic presence that’s hard to ignore. And for some strange reason, it felt a pull, a nudge, something that got me instantly attracted to him. I just stared in daze and quiet as he and Sunny exchanged pleasantries. “Lexy?” Sunny called but I was almost far gone, almost in a trance, mesmerised by his handsomeness. “Earth to Lexy…” I heard her voice sing until… “Lexy!” She shouted, making me jerk. “Uhm… uhn?” She smiled softly and then looked at me in a way that screamed: ‘Get yourself together!’ “I'll… uhm… leave you to it,” she said and exited. He walked slowly to me and sat next to me. “Are you alright?” He asked, touching my neck to feel my temperature. “I should get the pack doctor to make sure you're fine now,” he added, making to step out. “I'm fine. Good as new,” I responded, clearing my throat and laughing awkwardly in a bid to get back my confidence from whatever zone that was. “Okay then,” he said, flashing me a smile that revealed his dimples and awesome dentition. “Lycan Damien…” I started and he nodded as if to say I should go on. “I'm sure Sunny told you about why we were in the forest?” He nodded again and I continued. “I have a great interest to know about your kind and I wouldn't mind maybe having someone tell me about it or maybe… maybe I could use a library?” “Woah… slow your horses, pretty one. We have all day. I'll have Miranda show you to the library but first, you need to eat something and freshen up. Wouldn't want my mate developing an ulcer,” he said, teasingly and I smiled. “Okay, I'll let you get on with it and wait for you to join us downstairs.” I nodded and he gave me a small kiss on my forehead that made me freeze. Why did he have such an effect on me when I barely even knew him? I watched him walk out and I wondered how such a man as powerful as Sunny had described him would be so calm and soft with me. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to be his mate… maybe. But then, there was Jonas. Sighing, I located the bath room area. I went to freshen up and dressed in a free flowery gown. I went downstairs to meet Lycan Damien, Sunny and Beta Alec in the dining area. The whole place screamed of luxury and wealth and so did the meal. We exchanged pleasantries and Lycan Damien subtly flirted with me. I knew it was just a matter of time before he asked me out. But then, even if he did, I wasn't sure I would say yes. He might be handsome and mighty but I can't say yes. I have a life outside all this but most importantly, I have a man. Jonas and I might not be in contact right now but I was loyal. Still loyal and in love with my man and I doubt he can make me forget about him. A few hours after the meal and my rest, Miranda started leading me to the library. It was located in another building and we made our way there, having small talks about the kingdom. I was so engrossed in my conversation with Miranda, looking at her while we walked that I mistakenly bumped into someone. “Oh, I'm so sorry about that,” I said, bowing softly when my eyes saw a glimpse of him. My head shot up again and my eyes widened in shock. “Jonas?” I called, seeing how his eyes also widened on seeing me. “Lexy?” He called too, smiling now and looking really happy to see me. “Oh my God, Jonas!” I exclaimed and hugged him dearly. What a pleasant surprise. “Actually, it's Alpha Lucas. It's so good to see you here. Wait, what are you doing here?” He asked, smiling widely which gladdened my heart. But as I opened my mouth to answer, a feminine and sweet voice stopped me. “Babe! How can you leave your pregnant wife just like that? Baby…” she cooed. I looked behind me to see who she was talking to but then, I traced her gaze that stayed on Lucas. Wait, what?! Lucas is married?!
