Lexy's Pov
“What the actual f**k,” Sunny said, eyes widenening with every information I dropped. I had narrated what happened earlier between I and Lucas. “Then what happened next?”
“That was it. His wife just dragged him away,” I said softly, still not over what just happened. “Then I found myself walking back here.”
“Waw… I knew that jerk was just too good to be true.” She stared at me, swallowing what she was about to say on seeing how I looked.
I was still not over the shock and sadness that pricked my heart. I had believed something was wrong with Lucas for not reaching out.
I was worried but I kept my hopes up, waiting, believing and shutting all prospective partners off because I was waiting for him, only for me to find out he was married?
Caressing my hand softly, she said, “I'm so sorry, Lex.” I forced a smile at her and she continued, “You know what, f**k him! It's his loss. He just lost the opportunity to be with my one heck of an entrepreneur bestie with the sweetest smile and soul.”
I smiled and this time it was genuine. “Thanks Sunny,” I said, trying not to break down in front of her.
“Sure. And it's probably for the best. Imagine saying no to the richest and strongest werewolf in this world just because of that ugly ogre." I snorted. Ugly ogre? Okay that was funny.
Just then, Miranda knocked on the door, stating that Alec was looking for Sunny and she left.
I needed distraction, something to take my mind away from Lucas but when I opened my phone, the wallpaper that stared back at me broke me. It was a picture of Lucas and I kissing each other during our first year anniversary.
I didn't realize I was already crying until the tears fell on my phone. I dropped the phone on the bed and wrapped myself in a ball. My heart ached and I couldn't stop the tears from coming.
He didn't need to tell me before I knew that we were done. I had trusted him, believed him, loved him, but he played me, even from the beginning. Heck, his name wasn't even Jonas.
I scoffed, using the back of my hands to wipe off my tears. “Lexy, you're such a fool,” I muttered to myself. I stared blankly at an empty space, my mind far gone with me reminiscing on the moments we had shared together, my eyes shedding tears nonstop.
“Hi pretty one,” I heard his voice from behind me, making me freeze for a moment.
“Uhn?” I wiped off my face and sat back up.
“I was knocking for a while but got no response, so I led myself in,” Damien said and I turned to face him, nodding my head and smiling softly. “Are you alright?”
I nodded, avoiding his gaze so as not to get him worried.
“Lexy…” he said, using the tip of his finger to slightly raise my head. Seeing my red colored eyes, he asked, “Have you been crying, pretty one?”
I forced myself to smile, hiding behind it. “I… I've just been missing my parents, that's all.” I lied.
“Oh… I'm so sorry about that,” he offered, his eyes displaying sadness, pity and I nodded. I knew I lied but the truth was not something I was ready to share.
“You know what? I've got something perfectly planned that can take you out of this mood. How about… a movie dinner? You, me, some privacy…”
“Hmmm… are you asking me out on a date?” I teased in an attempt to not drowse the mood.
“Of course, I wouldn't miss a chance to spend more time with you,” he said, rather fastly and I giggled, staring at him unbelievably. “Will you go out on a movie date with me, pretty one?”
I looked at him for a split second which felt like an eternity, then I saw the sincerity in his eyes and then what looked like he was holding his breath, hopeful.
“Yes,” I said before I could stop myself.
He grinned, the kind of grin that looks like he had won a lottery. “Meet me downstairs in 10. I'll get Miranda to help get you whatever you need,” he said, happiness clearly obvious in his voice.

It was a few minutes into the end of the movie and I had hoped it wouldn't end. I had laughed to the extent that I was already crying and holding my belly in slight pain.
When we arrived, the scene looked comfy, and somewhat homely. I had expected something romantic. Rose petals, red wines, exquisite environment but he shocked me and so far, I had felt comfortable, peaceful and at… home.
“So,” he said, cutting me from my trail of thoughts. “Did you like the movie?”
Smiling, I said, “Yes, it was hilarious. I loved it.”
“I'm glad you do,” he said and stood up. “How about we go grab something to eat?” He offered me his hand which I took and we made our way out of the building.
Somehow, Damien has made me forget about Lucas and I was grateful for it. Maybe he wasn't bad. Maybe, just maybe… I could be his friend…
We had lunch at a fancy restaurant and made our way home. Damien had driven us all the day, leaving behind his guards and personal driver, giving me that feeling of a teenage love and it was intriguing.
He packed at the garage and stepped out. He opened my door for me and offered me his hand like a gentleman which I took. “My lady,” he cursied, earning a giggle from me as I stepped out.
“I had a great time, my lord,” I cursied and he laughed. “Thank you, Damien,” I said, matter of factly.
“Sure, pretty one, sure.”
I made to leave but he stopped me by holding my wrist gently, making me turn.
“Lexy, I know I shouldn't be saying this right now, but I can't help it,” he started and I nodded, ushering him to go on.
“I care about you. I know you’re human and you won't understand fully what it means to be my mate but I really really like you. And I'm asking, begging that you give me a chance to be your man and show you that I'm worth having.”
My mouth hung open, unsure of what to say. I just found out that my ex is married and now, I'm being asked out by someone else. I wasn't sure I was in the right frame of mind to say yes or even no as Damien had been nothing but sweet to me.
“Will you be my woman, pretty one?” He asked.
I weighed my options, thought about what a great opportunity I would be missing if I said no and then I said it: “Yes.”
He beamed, his eyes displaying joy as he lifted me and swung me around, making me giggle. “I promise, you won't regret it, my love,” he said and I smiled.
We stared at each other for a beat, happiness and joy tugging at my heart for some reason and then I saw him leaning in for a kiss when his phone suddenly began to ring.
He picked it and after a short conversation, told me he had to attend to something and would meet me in my room in a giffy.
I made my way upstairs when I saw Miranda walking towards me with a small smile and I instantly remembered she was going to lead me to the library. I asked her to and we made our way to the Library Quarters.
It was a big building filled with books and encyclopedias. Luckily for me, Miranda showed me to the shelves for wolf hunters and I started digging in.
Learning a lot from it, I became intrigued until… I saw the file, a book with the name: Maxus Williams.
My dad.
I dug in. The story I read was exactly that of my dad and attached to it was his picture.
I kept reading his tales on how he had been a good man, working to tell stories about werewolves and ways of reuniting the werewolf kingdom with the human world until his demise.
His demise.
The word re-echoed in my brain. Questions surged in. What had happened to him?
The answer faced me when I found out in the next page; he was killed.
He was killed by none other than Lycan King Damien.
