Lexy's Pov
I woke up with a weakness that gnawed at me. I tossed and turned until I was facing the ceilings, my head filled with worry.
Damien had knocked on my door earlier but I had locked it, ignoring him.
How am I supposed to face the man responsible for my father's death whom I just yesterday said yes to being his girlfriend to?
After finding out about dad's death, there was no explanation about what killed him or how he died. That only left me with more puzzles, more questions and a growing anger towards Damien.
I need answers and I know the only person that could give me those answers was him but I wasn't ready to face him. First, I didn't know what I might do to him and second, maybe… maybe I wasn't ready to accept the fact that the man I was falling for killed my dad.
There were lots of questions and confusion in my mind. Damien never struck me like someone capable of killing a bee or was it all a mask? The same mask Lucas had hid behind?
Why did he kill my dad?
“Milady,” Miranda's voice broke my thoughts. She knocked again and added, “You have a guest.”
I groaned, not in the mood to see anyone.
It felt like I was mourning. The last I heard about dad was that he was missing. Yes, the thought of him being dead lingered but I never accepted it. Never entertained it.
“Milady,” Miranda's voice came again.
“Urghhh!” I screamed into the pillow, pushed myself up and went to open the door. “Who's it?” I asked, rather rashly. Miranda gave way to reveal him.
Lucas.
“Hi, Lexy. Can I come in?”
It took everything in me not to roll my eyes but I let him in, shutting the door behind me. “What do you want?” I asked, not in the mood for whatever this was.
“Uhmm…” he started, scratching the back of his head. “I just wanted to check up on you. How is our world treating you?”
I scoffed, muttering but loud enough for him to hear, “Like you care.”
He gasped, his face displaying shock that irritated me. “Why would you say that, Lexy? Of course I do care. You're my…”
“Your ex,” I completed for him. “Listen, as you can see, I'm perfectly fine, now, can you leave?”
“Lexy, I understand how you feel but I can explain.”
“Explain?” I scoffed, folding my arms. “Okay, explain Jonas… oh, I forget that isn't your name.”
“I had to leave. My brother needed me to lead a pack and I had to leave. I couldn't tell you about it because you're human. How was I supposed to convince you to come with me?”
“Two years, two years together and all you did was deceive me? And now you're blaming me? Telling me that you never trusted me enough to accept you or leave with you? What a joke.”
“For f**k's sake!” He exclaimed, making me flinch.
What the heck?! Did he just switch on me?
He continued, “Look, I don't care what you think. I only came to make sure you don't go around spoiling my name like some little brat.” I gasped.
“Besides, we might be seeing each other often, so, you better get used to seeing me. I don't want you bitching around.”
“Waw,” I muttered.
“And if I'm being frank, I was only passing time with you. I knew I was going to leave from the beginning but just wanted someone to fool around with.
“Ughn… you're such a bore, Lexy. Too serious, not flexible and so boring!” He stretched the last part. “I shouldn't have given you those special treatment when there were other ladies I gave little attention to but still opened their p***y for me to fuck.”
He continued, “Now, get your acts together and know your place here. Got it?!”
What the actual f**k?!
I opened my mouth to speak but a loud yell came from the passageway, making me keep shut. I brushed it off, thinking it was nothing until it came again, louder, frightened.
I looked at Lucas and saw fear flash through his eyes. “Could it be…” he muttered and turned to leave.
“What? Could it be what?!” I asked but he hastily ran out.
Whatever that was, I needed to see it. So, I ran after him to meet the whole estate in disarray. People were running around to what I supposed was safety. A team of men on cloaks and doctors running upstairs.
Then a loud growl came, sounding like a roar. The building shook and then I felt heavy footsteps upstairs. I bent to cover my head, feeling like the building would fall down.
I slowly raised my head to see it. It was scary, a dominating and scary werewolf with red eyes and a stance like it was ready to kill. I froze when our eyes met.
It bent its head and I saw its eyes snapped into rage. It felt as if it was coming to kill me but I still felt a shocking connection to it, like I knew who it was.
Another smaller wolf jumped on it, pinning it down. The doctors, instantly injecting something into the scary beast-like werewolf. It whimpered, winced and then collapsed.
It took almost six men to lift him into a room, shutting it. The smaller wolf turned into a naked Lucas who walked off into another room.
“What… what was that?” I heard Sunny's voice beside me.
“I have no idea,” I muttered. Still shocked and in daze.
A few minutes passed and there was calm. I got to find out that the beast was Damien in rampage.
I didn't know how to react or feel. I just sat next to Sunny and Alec on a bench outside the room Damien had been taken into.
“Why are you still here?” I asked when Lucas came around again.
“Why wouldn't I be here? Damien is my brother,” he dropped with a scowl and I rolled my eyes.
Wait, Damien is his brother? Waw. What a twist.
“What happened to him though?” Sunny asked the one question that had been at the tip of my tongue all these while.
Alec and Lucas glanced at each other before Alec said, “The Lycan King is… cursed.”
“Cursed?” I and Sunny chorused as if it was practiced. Shock evident in my mind as Sunny asked, “What does that even mean?”
“What’s the cure?” I asked, somewhat worried and scared for Damien.
“A ritual,” Lucas said, looking at the door of the room where Damien was.
“And his mate's blood.”
