CHAPTER TWO

I got dressed and stepped out to go home with a lingering headache and also poor memory. I went home and saw Sarah asleep, I just went upstairs to freshen up and probably get something to eat. When I was done , I saw sarah coming towards me “ Abigail, where did you go last night ? I saw you with that guy dancing afterwards I didn't see you again. What happened?” Sarah asked, looking at me in a suspicious way. I still didn't know how to tell her everything because I myself still can't understand how everything happened but all I can remember is that it was the best night I had in a long time. “ Well nothing really happened. We just danced and can't still really remember, but all I know is that nothing really happened” I said making sure that I tried as much as possible for her to believe me but it seems she still didn't. “Oh really, is that all you can say? Well I know you will eventually tell me what happened and by the way he was quite hot” she smiled in a teasing way. I just smiled at her and went up to continue eating my food. After a few minutes, I got a text message from Derick and I decided to send a breakup message to him and inform him that I know about his cheating practices. I blocked his line making sure that he never reaches this line any more. I decided to start focusing more on myself and probably my father's business and get back to work. I have been working in my father's business for a long time before but started getting lazy due to Derick. Maybe he actually made me lose focus on me and had to let him go the hard way in order for me to succeed. I went to my father to speak to him on working back in the company. “ Dad, good morning , how are you doing?” I said in a soft tone . He looked at me with some much love and excitement. I and my father's has not seen for a while now and I can't lie I miss him so much. I ran to give him a hug and my father smiled. Abigail! How are you doing? I’ve missed my Abi so much. How are you and your sister?” he asked with an excited tone. “We’re fine, Dad,” I said softly. “Well, I came here to plead with you... to give me back my job. I was stupidly in love with my ex and rejected the opportunity you offered. I regret it deeply, and I’m asking for a second chance.” My father looked at me, his eyes filled with a mix of pity and understanding. Then, after a long pause, he nodded. “You can have your job back.” “Thank you, Dad. I love you so much,” I said as tears streamed down my cheeks. I never imagined he would forgive me after all the pain I caused when I left. Monday morning arrived. I got up early, determined not to be late on my first day back. I dressed in black pants, a white t-shirt, and black low shoes. I added a pair of glasses and styled my hair into a ponytail. After some light makeup, I headed out. I stopped by the coffee shop to grab a cup of coffee to kick start my day. When I got to the office, I greeted the staff warmly and made my way to my new workspace. Dad had given me a private office to avoid distractions, which I truly appreciated. The space looked just as I had left it, but I decided to give it a personal touch. I started redecorating to make it feel more like mine again. I didn’t have much paperwork to handle that day, so I used the time to explore the company’s current files. That’s when I noticed something alarming—the company’s finances were plummeting. I had never seen such a drastic drop in all the years I had known my father’s business. It was shocking. Curious and concerned, I dug deeper into the documents. What I found left me speechless. Without wasting time, I rushed to my father's office. Knock knock “Who is that?” “It’s me, Abigail.” “Oh, love. Come in.” “Hello, Dad. How are you?” I asked, taking a seat as he gestured. “I’m fine, dear.” “Well... I came because I saw something troubling in the paperwork. The finances—Dad, they’re in bad shape. We’re losing money fast. What happened while I was gone?” He hesitated, then sighed deeply, pain clouding his eyes. “It’s finally time to tell you. I didn’t want this to burden you or your sister. We made some risky decisions, and as a result, we lost major investors and clients—millions of dollars gone. We’re hanging by a thread now. If we don’t find a strong investor soon... we might go bankrupt.” My heart sank. I couldn’t believe it. The company my father had built with years of dedication and sacrifice was now on the verge of collapse. “Oh my gosh, Dad... you didn’t even tell me. Why didn’t you say something sooner? What are we going to do?” I asked, full of concern. “ I was thinking of meeting a good investor for help. If he could help us, he is a popular influence and his investment will take the company to greater heights. But there is a problem, they also ask for something in return, I just hope I will be able to fulfill the promise”. He said. “ Well, Good luck dad, if there is any way I can help please let me know. This company can not go bankrupt”. I said with a very hurt look. I hugged him and headed back straight to my office and something clicke d in my head. Who is the investor dad is talking about?
