CHAPTER 2 - Unanticipated Obligation

Jwalin Oberoi Jwalin stepped out of his private jet in his usual elegance. He was 6 ft tall, dressed in a black custom-made tailored suit with gelled hair, a slight beard, polished shoes, and black goggles settled on top of his sharp nose. The coldness emanating from him was contrary to the blazing sun shining on his alluringly handsome face, adding a mysterious aura to his presence. With his domineering personality, he had the temperament of a ruthless king, making him invisible. Hopped into his Rolls Royce, he adjusted his cufflinks and glanced at his assistant. Instantly, Ashok began informing the schedule while Jwalin was engrossed in a few documents. Soon, he reached Oberoi Entreprises. With his steady steps, he strode to the Presidential elevator. He settled himself in the Presidential chair, his gaze keen on the documents for the upcoming meeting, until he received a call. "Yes?" Jwalin queried in his rigid tone. "Come to my cabin, Jwalin," Tushar ordered. Hearing that, Jwalin was in a daze. Reminiscing how long it'd been since he had his last chat with his father, a bad feeling spread across his insides. "Why was dad here? What did he want now? He'll be up to no good." Jwalin mumbled to himself, and a frustrated sigh escaped his lips. Leaning on the chair, he rested his head while his lips formed a thin line. He massaged his temples and muttered with annoyance, "Huh, I need to go, though." He closed the files on the table and walked out of his office. "Mr. Oberoi," Ashok called. Ashok was a man always in command for Jwalin. He's the best assistant Jwalin could ask for over the years. Ashok was 5'11, with his muscular physique being covered in his suit, he's a handsome man, but he never welcomed a woman as if they were a bother in his busy life. "What is it?" Jwalin asked with impatience, without giving a glance at him. "You have a meeting in fifteen minutes with the builder." "Are the arrangements complete?" "Yes." With a nod, he slightly warned in his monotonous tone, "I might not be able to attend it. Take care on my behalf. I don't want any mistakes to happen in this agreement." Ashok stiffened when he glanced at Jwalin's pitch-black eyes and hearing the seriousness in his tone, Ashok added, "I'll handle it, sir." ... "Excuse me, dad." Jwalin knocked on the door and heard a "come in." "Take your seat." His father, Tushar said, while raising his eyes to meet Jwalin's eyes. While Jwalin stood in his full glory with his sharp, piercing eyes. His silky black hair appeared messy as if he ran his hand through it multiple times. "No need. Just tell me, why did you call me?" He skipped all the formalities and jumped to the point while arrogance ran through his veins. "I fixed your marriage," Tushar announced with a crooked smile. "What?" He asked, not believing what he heard. His father nodded, "you need to come with me to meet her tomorrow at noon." "What the f**k, dad?" He cussed. "Language, Jwalin." His father yelled. "With whose consent did you arrange my marriage? For heaven's sake, why would you fix it? It should be me to decide, know?" He screamed, losing his composure. "I gave you enough time, but you neglected it. So, I have taken it into my hands now." His father shrugged as if it was not a big deal. "I don't want to get married, dad. Not now!" He roared at his father, who remained unfazed at his temper while swiveling in his chair leisurely. Glancing at the furious Jwalin, Tushar slapped his hands on the table and said in a conclusive tone, "I don't care." He squinted at his father in disbelief and clenched his fists to control the rage that was churning inside of him. "Then, I don't give a damn either." He said with gritted teeth in a venomous tone. Tushar stood up and approached Jwalin while his gaze penetrated his insides, and neither of them was backing down. The atmosphere turned chilly with each passing second. "Listen to me carefully, Jwalin. I don't give a s**t about how, but I want this marriage to happen, else, you know the consequences." He shook his head, "What are they?" "You don't get a penny from Oberoi Industries, and you need to back off from the CEO position." His father enunciated each word with the utmost certainty, making Jwalin stumble on his foot. "You can't do that." His voice turned deadly with the revelation. "I can and I will. You know that too. Don't live in denial, son." Tushar's lips curved slightly, gazing at the aggravation on Jwalin's face. Jwalin closed his eyes while his face was fuming with anger and inhaled a chunk of air, and his father was observing his every emotion with a sly smirk. Tushar knew well that Jwalin would never let the President's position go to someone else. From the time Jwalin was born, he was overly mature beyond his age to take charge of it. His every breath, every bone, every deed was only to strengthen Oberoi Entreprises. He was raised and trained that way. It'd be impossible for Jwalin to sacrifice Oberoi Entreprises! Not only impossible, plain cruel to him. Because he's always a king supposed to sit on the throne of the Oberoi. "That's unfair!" Jwalin retorted while his eyes turned bloodshot with all the madness that was brewing in him. "Life is never fair, Jwalin! You knew it better than this." Jwalin swallowed the anger, clenched his teeth, and returned to his cold composure. "Why me?" Jwalin questioned, seeing straight in his father's eyes with all his emotions locked and a mask occupying his handsome face. "Do I need to answer you? Do you think you can confront me? When did the authorities in the Oberoi shift to this extent? Why didn't I know about it?" Tushar's pointed gaze made Jwalin take a step back. If anyone in this world can make Jwalin this helpless, it's his father and grandfather! After a couple of minutes, Jwalin announced the words, "Fine," while his tone detached from any emotion. His appearance turned stoic, and his eyes remained lifeless, as if he was the untouchable king. "Good. I appreciate it." His father said with a tinge of happiness. "But, what will I get in return?" "You'll continue as the President, and eventually, you’ll be the head of the Oberoi Entreprises. What else do you need?" Rooted over there, Jwalin thought, "this should be the last time you're allowed to meddle in my way." With that, he stated the most dreaded words he always wanted to say. "I want complete authority, and you're not allowed to be involved in any of my decisions." He spat the words without any mercy. Tushar heard him and didn't make a sound. Seeing that, Jwalin added, "I also want you to transfer the shares in my name." "I'll transfer the shares and authority only after I'm convinced that you're abiding by my terms for at least a year," Tushar spoke in a commanding tone, not giving any place for arguments. "Nope. I can't accept that. What if you go back on your word? Then my sacrifice would be a waste." "Did he take me for a fool? He wanted to use me, but I'm gaining nothing! Ridiculous!" Jwalin snorted coldly in his heart. "Did I ever go back on my words?" Tushar's tone darkened. In fact, he's equally domineering as Jwalin. "You know it better!" Jwalin mocked and the atmosphere turned scary with both of them standing neck to neck. Tushar's jaw ticked with the bluntness Jwalin used. In the next minute, he added, "I'll transfer half of them now, and the authority will be equal for the first year. That's what I can do for now." Hearing that, Jwalin said in a stern tone, "I agree." "But you need to sign a contract for that." "What are your clauses?" "1.) There should be no divorce between you and her for at least the following 5 years, and an heir should be a must. 2.) You're not allowed to live separately. 3.) You should fulfill all the responsibilities of married life. 4.) If you want to get out of this marriage by breaking any of these, you'll be kicked out of Oberoi Entreprises along with taking back everything you inherited from us." Hearing them, veins popped out on Jwalin's forehead. With clenched fists, he asked, "That's it?" His father added, "all your properties will get transferred under the name of your heir if you've one. If not, under the name of your brother, Mahavir. You're going to lose your position in our family too. You'll be left with nothing, in short." His father stated nonchalantly, making Jwalin's blood boil. "Mahavir can never run it as I did," Jwalin screamed in annoyance. "So what? He can learn!" Tushar objected sharply. Jwalin chuckled hearing that, "wow! You're even willing to ruin Oberoi Entreprises just to make sure I obey? Just to win your stance!" "You're wrong, Jwalin." "Am I wrong? Am I?" He questioned in a cold tone, making Tushar sweat, but he quickly covered it. "I'm the one who took Oberoi Entreprises to its high! How can you do this to me?" Jwalin questioned, though he didn't want to know the answer, he couldn't stop himself because of the injustice that was happening to him. The irony here is it's his father who's doing it. "What do you mean by that?" Tushar pretended to be dumb. "You know what I'm asking. There's no need for you to act in front of me." Jwalin mercilessly tore away the pretense, leaving no choice for Tushar to come straight to the point. "Well, since your elder brother is in politics, isn't it obvious that the younger will deserve the chance to handle the business if not you?" "But Mahavir never wanted that. That's the reason he established his entertainment venture. You knew it, didn't you?" "He's just playing outside for the time being. One day or other, Mahavir was obliged to come back and accept what belonged to him." Tushar raised his voice as if he were stating a matter of fact. "Woah! You finally showed your true colors in front of me. You were never lenient with Jathin and me, but you tolerated all the nonsense Mahavir pulled. You even asked me to clean up his mess. You love him more than you love Jathin and me, don't you?" Sarcasm dripped off from Jwalin's tone. "I'm always like this, Jwalin. I believe you know me better than this." Tushar gave a disappointed look at Jwalin. "Did you ever love mom?" Jwalin's tone was laced with a bit of pain. Hearing the sudden mention of his ex-wife, Tanuja, Tushar's pupils darkened, and he uttered one word, "never." "Moreover, never mention her in front of me. It's disgusting!" Tushar venomously added, which pricked Jwalin's heart. "I never think she's disgusting. Don't you dare call her like that in front of me!" Jwalin almost grabbed the collar of Tushar but controlled himself. "What will you do?" "Don't provoke me, Dad. I can tolerate all the stunts you're pulling on me, but never, I repeat, never degrade my mom." Jwalin added. "Fine!" Tushar huffed. With a nod, "I underestimated you, dad. I now knew you'd do anything and everything to make things happen according to your way." Jwalin stated with the utmost dissatisfaction, and Tushar shrugged. The irony was Tushar just shrugged as if it was a normal thing to do! "Remember one thing, dad, I won't forget what you did to me today. You know I'm a vengeful person." With that said, he added, "I'm in. Let me know where to sign." He said curtly while his pupils darkened. A gloomy yet chilly aura surrounded him, "one last thing. I presume you'll do everything you promised me today. If not, you know my ruthless ways." After saying that, he left the room while giving a hard punch to the wall. ...
