Lara hesitated for a moment before entering Martinez's office as the anticipation of the impending conversation sent a shiver down her spine.
As she pushed the door open, she found Martinez perched on a stool, seemingly struggling to reach something on a high shelf.
Clearing her throat, she unintentionally startled him, causing Martinez to almost fall off from the stool. He looked at her with wide eyes, exclaiming, "Lara? You almost scared me to death! Please don't do that again."
Lara quickly apologized, before taking a step inside. Once in, she posed the question that had been on her mind for weeks now.
"Martinez, when is Adam going to meet me?" She asked while eyeing a peculiar potion on his table.
He paused, his expression shifting from surprise to a composed demeanor. "I told you Lara. He will meet you when he wants to. By the way, he is the Alpha right?"
Lara, taken aback, retorted. "It's been over two weeks Martinez, almost three, and still no chance to meet him or understand the reasons behind these intense training sessions."
Martinez, still on the stool, leaned back, assessing her with a calm demeanor. "You know what? You should be grateful that you are his mate Lara. Many would die to be in your position."
Frustration bubbling within her, Lara couldn't contain her emotions any longer.
"I am grateful!" she shouted, surprising Martinez but immediately regretting the raised voice. "I don't mean to be rude Martinez. I just... I just want answers. Can't you take me to him? You're a physician after all."
But suddenly, a lady, probably an Omega, nonchalantly walked into the office, holding some sort of tag. With a mischievous smile, she placed it on Martinez's table and surprisingly, Martinez didn't object to her intrusion.
Lara, curious about the tag, took a closer look. It appeared to be some form of permit or access pass.
The moment Martinez noticed her examining it, he quickly moved to grab it, but Lara was quicker and snatched it from the table, running out of the room afterwards.
Martinez called after her, mentioning that there was a meeting going on, but Lara couldn't hear. The rush of adrenaline fueled her sprint outside, leaving behind the echo of Martinez's voice.
Out in the corridor, Lara examined the tag more closely. It seemed to hold some significance, possibly granting access to restricted areas. She pondered over the possibilities, realizing that this might be her ticket to the meeting Adam.
As she hurried down the corridor, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and anxiety, Lara pondered the consequences of her impulsive action.
She hurried through the intricate corridors of the noble mansion, memories of Selene guiding her and assisting in avoiding getting lost.
However, her journey was abruptly interrupted by patrolling guards demanding an explanation for her presence. Swiftly, she produced Martinez's tag, a ticket to navigate the restricted areas. Earning a nod of approval from the guards, the fear of punishment for entering restricted areas no longer haunted her.
Navigating through the mansion, she encountered a large crowd, who didn't live in the compound leaving. Patiently, she waited for them to disperse before slipping into the building. A hushed voice behind her shouted, "stop there," but without looking back, she darted inside.
The grand hall was her target, but as she approached, she found the door locked. Frustrated, she considered retreating before hearing voices from a nearby room.
Peeking through the slightly ajar door, she witnessed an intense argument between the pack's alpha, Adam and his friend Dorian.
"Damn him!" Adam's voice echoed in frustration as he paced around the room. "Kael finally collaborated with the police to keep other humans away from the outskirts of the town at night. Something I would have achieved myself if not for that damn..."
"Calm down, Adam," Dorian, his childhood friend, advised. "We'd get through this together."
Lara, eavesdropping innocently, wondered who Kael was and felt really sorry for Adam. However, his next words left her stunned.
"If only that stupid girl would wolf out!" Adam's outburst filled the room.
Dorian tried to pacify him, cautioning against such words, "don't say that Adam," but Adam's frustration only escalated.
"Why would she, despite the potions and training from Martinez, wouldn't just transform yet?"
Hurt and confused, Lara felt the sting of his words.
Dorian, attempted to reason with Adam, emphasizing, "friend, every werewolf has their own time for transformation. You can't force it."
However, Adam dismissed him, declaring, "stop supporting that crazy b***h. She's just a stupid human unworthy of being a werewolf's mate."
The words pierced through Lara's heart, triggering tears she struggled to contain it, placing her right hand on her mouth and muffling any audible sobs.
"I've been thinking Dorian, why can't I just pick another random noble lady not this thing."
"She's your mate Adam," Dorian responded calmly but Adam vehemently denied it saying "she's not and you can keep telling that to yourself."
He stormed out of the room, visibly upset, without a glance in Lara's direction who was sitting near the entrance door opposite to the direction he was heading.Dorian, sighing, exited shortly after.
Hearing Lara's sobs, he looked down, surprised to find her in distress. "Lara?" he questioned taken aback that she overheard the entire conversation.
Unable to bear the emotional onslaught, she evaded him, sprinting away and seeking refuge from the harsh reality that had unfolded before her eyes.
Lara's emotions overwhelmed her as she sprinted to the familiar training field. The field, once a place of determination and growth, now echoed with her cries of despair. Running around it, tears streamed down her face as she shouted into the night, "Wolf out!"
The sky, painted with the hues of twilight, hinted at the approaching darkness. The full moon had yet to grace the night, but Lara's desperation drove her to plead with a force beyond her control.
With each attempt, the echo of Adam's harsh words reverberated in her mind, tearing at the fabric of her self-worth. "Stupid human girl," his words lingered like a haunting melody. Undeterred by the absence of the full moon, Lara continued her futile cries, as if wishing that her strong determination could make things change.
Nightfall descended soon enough, casting shadows across the training field. Clouds gathered, shrouding the moon, mirroring the storm within Lara's heart. After several unsuccessful attempts, she stumbled to a halt, exhaustion and despair etched across her face.
"He's right," she whispered to herself, the weight of Adam's judgment crushing her spirit. The realization that she was just a human, chosen as an orphan by the Moonglow pack, struck her with a painful truth she couldn't escape.
Dragging her feet to the edge of the training field, she approached the woods beyond. The trees stood like silent witnesses to her anguish.
Lara reached a cliff overlooking the expanse of darkness below, a reflection of the abyss that had opened within her.
Cursing herself through choked sobs, she replayed Adam's harsh words in her mind. "Unworthy... undeserving..." The weight of his judgment bore down on her, and a profound sense of emptiness enveloped her being.
"I'm just a human," she admitted to the silent night, her voice trembling with self-condemnation. The wind carried away her desperate cries, leaving only the haunting sound of her own heartbreak.
In that moment of profound despair, she made a choice – a choice to surrender to the darkness that seemed to mirror the shadows within her tortured soul.
With a final, heart-wrenching sob, Lara tossed herself down the cliff, allowing the night to swallow her cries and pain.
