Chapter 2: The Golden Wolf Awakens

568 Words
Silence gripped the training grounds. Every pair of eyes was fixed on me, waiting. Expecting. Daring. I could barely breathe. My heartbeat pounded in my ears as Alpha King Lucian’s command echoed in my mind. “Shift.” No one had ever ordered me to shift before. No one had given me a choice, because they had all believed I had none. For years, I had hidden the truth, let them think me weak, and endured their jeers and blows to protect the secret my mother died for. But now, there was no more hiding. Lucian’s silver eyes bore into me, unwavering, unrelenting. The dominance in his stance left no room for disobedience. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, restless, clawing to be free. She had been silent for so long. Now, she howled in my mind, her energy crashing against my barriers. Selene scoffed, stepping forward. “This is ridiculous,” she sneered, her voice filled with venom. “She can’t shift, and you’ll see it for yourself, Your Majesty.” The insult in her words was barely veiled, and a few of the pack members gasped. Challenging the Alpha King’s judgment was foolish even for someone as arrogant as Selene. Lucian didn’t spare her a glance. His attention was wholly on me. I swallowed hard. I could feel the magic deep within me, the bond snapping into place, the raw power simmering under my skin. My fingers trembled. My bones ached. My wolf was pushing forward, demanding her freedom. Then the pain hit. It was unlike anything I had felt before. My body contorted, every muscle locking up, fire spreading through my veins as my bones began to break and realign. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. The pain of a first shift was excruciating for any wolf but this was different. This was something else entirely. I dropped to my knees as my skin burned, glowing faintly under the moonlight. The golden hue spread over my arms, my legs, and my face until suddenly, my body gave way, my human form dissolving into something far more powerful. Gasps and screams filled the night as my wolf form emerged. I stood tall, towering over every wolf present, even the Alpha. My golden fur shimmered under the moon, brighter than any wolf had ever seen. My eyes burned like molten gold, wild and untamed. My presence sent shockwaves through the pack an aura of raw dominance and ancient strength. A golden wolf. The legend had come to life. I lifted my head, letting out a deep, resonating growl that shook the very earth beneath us. The warriors who had once mocked me dropped to their knees, their heads bowed instinctively. Even my father, Beta Damien, staggered back, horror and disbelief etched onto his face. Selene was frozen in place, her mouth opening and closing like a fish gasping for air. “No… That’s not possible,” she whispered. “This… this is a trick!” But it wasn’t. This was me. My truth, my power. Lucian took a slow step forward, his silver eyes gleaming with something dark possession, satisfaction, hunger. He lowered his head slightly, acknowledging what no one else could deny. I was his equal. His mate. His Luna. The world shifted at that moment, and I knew there was no turning back. The secret was out, and everything was about to change forever.
