The Alpha’s Hunger

864 Words
Darian Blackwood woke with a growl. His eyes snapped open, golden and blazing, his body rigid, his c**k hard as iron, aching with a need that had no name. The dream was still burning behind his eyelids—her face, her body, her taste on his tongue. He could still feel the phantom weight of her hips in his hands, the sound of her moans echoing in his skull. He sat up, his chest heaving, sweat dripping down his back. "f**k," he snarled, slamming his fist into the mattress. The bed frame groaned in protest, but he didn't care. He was the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, the most powerful werewolf in a hundred-mile radius. He commanded respect, fear, loyalty. He had warriors who would die for him, land that stretched for miles, a legacy that spanned generations. And he was losing his goddamn mind. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, his feet hitting the cold hardwood floor. The room was dark, lit only by the pale glow of the moon filtering through the window. He could feel it, the pull of the full moon, three days away, thrumming in his blood like a second heartbeat. But that wasn't what was driving him insane. It was her. The woman in his dreams. The woman with honey-brown hair and eyes too bright to be entirely human. The woman who smelled like jasmine and rain and something deeper, something primal, something that called to his wolf like a mating song. He didn't know her name. He didn't know where she lived. He didn't know if she was real. But his wolf knew. Mate, it snarled, pacing inside his skull. Find her. Claim her. f**k her. "Shut up," he growled, but the command had no weight. His wolf didn't listen. It never did when it came to this. He stood, naked, and walked to the window. The glass was cold against his skin, the reflection of his own body staring back at him—broad shoulders, corded muscles, the faint scars that crisscrossed his torso like a map of past battles. He was a weapon, honed and deadly, a creature of violence and instinct. And he was trembling. He pressed his palm against the glass, his fingers splayed, and closed his eyes. He reached out with his mind, searching for her, the way he'd searched every night for the past week. He could feel her, a faint pulse at the edge of his consciousness, like a heartbeat in a distant room. But he couldn't reach her. Who are you? he thought. Where are you? The only answer was silence. A knock at the door pulled him back to the present. "Alpha?" A voice, low and respectful. His Beta, Marcus. "Enter." The door opened, and Marcus stepped inside. He was a large man, built like a bear, with graying hair and a face weathered by years of loyalty. He didn't flinch at Darian's nakedness, didn't blink at the obvious tension in his Alpha's body. He simply stood, waiting. "Report," Darian said, his voice flat. "The border patrols are complete. No sign of rogues. The pack is ready for the hunt." "Good." Marcus hesitated. "Alpha... you haven't been yourself lately." Darian's jaw tightened. "I'm fine." "You've been having the dreams again." It wasn't a question. Marcus knew. Marcus always knew. Darian turned from the window, his eyes meeting his Beta's. "Yes." "The woman?" "Yes." Marcus was quiet for a long moment. Then he said, "The old stories speak of a bond that transcends distance. A mate link that forms before the two have ever met. It's rare. Almost mythic." "I don't need a history lesson, Marcus." "No. But you might need a warning." Marcus stepped closer, his voice dropping. "If she's human, the bond will be difficult. If she's a wolf, she'll feel the pull too. Either way, you need to find her before the full moon. The urge to claim will become unbearable." Darian's hands curled into fists. "I know." "Do you? Because you've been sitting here, night after night, dreaming of her, and doing nothing." The words were a challenge, and Darian's wolf surged forward, his eyes flashing, a growl ripping from his throat. Marcus didn't flinch. He'd earned the right to speak bluntly. "Watch yourself," Darian snarled. "I speak out of respect, Alpha. Not defiance." Marcus held his ground. "But if you don't act, you'll lose her. The bond will wither. And you'll spend the rest of your life as a ghost, haunted by a woman you never had the courage to claim." The words hit like a punch to the gut. Darian turned away, his hands gripping the windowsill, his knuckles white. He stared out at the moon, at the dark expanse of forest that surrounded his territory. "Leave me," he said, his voice rough. Marcus bowed his head. "Alpha." The door clicked shut behind him. Darian stood alone in the darkness, his blood burning, his wolf howling, his heart pounding with a need that refused to be ignored. I'll find you, he promised. I don't know how, but I'll find you. And when I do, I'll never let you go.
