“I think she’s coming around, hurry, call the alpha,”
Layla opened her eyes to a strange environment. There were people in lab coats standing all around her and blinding bright lights overhead.
As she tried to sit up, she noticed the iv’s in both arms, and bandages over half her body.
“Whoa, slow down,” one of the men in lab coats said
“Easy, here I’ll help you sit up,”
The man gently helped her up to a sitting position. Her head was splitting, and her face hurt all over.
“Where, Where am I,” she stuttered
“Relax, you’re safe,” he answered. He was a kindly older gentleman, with big blue eyes
“ Just take easy, you’ve had a good knocking around, you need to rest,”
Layla suddenly remembered last night' escapades, and she cursed herself for being so careless, she was rescued, however, and suddenly thought of her enigmatic savior.
Her head however, wasn't connected to her mouth, and the words didn't seem to come out the way she wanted.
“But, But,”
“You are in the wildwood territory, home of my pack, and you are our guest, kitten”
She turned to see who was talking, and she remembered, the man who saved her.He was standing over her with a grin on his face.
“Who, Who”
“It’s alright kitten, you under the wolves protection, no one will harm you here,” Her rescuer put his arm on her shoulder and looked down at her with his grey eyes. She remembered his curly brown hair, and his warm demeanor put her at ease.
Layla frowned, putting her head in her hands trying to figure her crazy situation.
“Wait a minute, how do you know my name, how did you find me..”
“I followed you Layla, after I spotted you beating up three thugs twice your size. I had a feeling you might run into trouble, and I was right, glad we got there when we did, or,,,”
“I know, I remember,” she sighed “Thank you for, for everything,”
Alex sat down on her bed and pushed a stray hair out of her eye.
“ strong little avenger,” he smiled
“ But not strong enough to take on a whole pack of rogues by yourself” Alex shrugged his shoulders,”.” I could have helped you, you know, if I had caught you in time to ask you,”
She smiled weakly, “That was you, you followed me all over the city yesterday, I knew you were there, I stayed just far enough ahead, so you couldn’t catch me.”
“ I figured as much, “ He said, “You are too smart and cunning to let a lowly wolf catch you if you know they’re following you,”
“Thank you, I think, wait, you were at my apartment, i smelled you, you knocked the flower pot over on my balcony,”
Alex raised an eyebrow, this little kitten was too smart for her own good.
“So why didn’t you get up to catch me kitten, if you knew I was there,”
“ I didn’t sense any danger,” she replied “ I thought it was a stray dog, until now, but now that I have your scent, it’s obvious I was very wrong,’
“No kitten, I wasn’t there to hurt you, I was guarding you.”
“But why,”
“Because I have never seen anyone like you, a tiny cat with a mind for vengeance, and I was afraid your heart was too big for your head,”
“ Guess you were right, wolf,” Layla huffed, staring down at her bruised arms.
“Alex, beta of this pack,” He stood up and gave a courteous bow. “My Alpha, Axel will becoming to visit you shortly, he has some questions to ask you,and about the men you tried to attack ,”
“But,, but, what would he want..”
“Alright, everybody out,” one of the lab coats suddenly yelled
“She needs some rest before the alpha gets here,”
Alex bent down and hugged her much to her surprise, “ Rest little kitten,” he mused.
“I have never seen anybody as cunning and brave as you, I’ll see you in a little while..”
Layla fell back on the bed and closed her eyes. She was too tired from her ferocious beating to think about what just happened, so she let sleep engulf her.
