“W-What?”
Ryuu asked, her previously melancholic eyes turned into shocked orbs.
“I’ll help you fix your relationship with your wife.”
Syr said with full of seriousness and sincerity in her voice.
Ryuu stared at her for long several seconds then she suddenly burst out laughing. People eating at the table near to them looked back in shock at the sudden outburst. While Syr was really embarrassed at the moment and looking at Ryuu, confused. Did she say something funny? Is there something on her face?
Syr looked around the place, trying to look for a specific thing that may be made Ryuu laughed out loud like this but she can’t find any. Nothing was strange. Nothing can be a good enough reason for Ryuu to laugh like this. Frowning, Syr faced Ryuu once again with a more confused expression.
Ryuu tried her best to stop herself from laughing. She took a deep breath and drank her remaining drinks.
“What’s funny?”
Syr asked, annoyed and embarrassed.
Ryuu stared at her in disbelief, can’t believe that Syr doesn’t have any idea. Then mumbled, “You.”
“What the f**k do you mean?”
Syr blurted out slightly louder than needed.
“You. You said that you will help fix my relationship with my wife but didn’t you just mentioned earlier that you never liked someone nor be in a relationship with someone before so how can you even help me?”
Syr frowned more at Ryuu’s statement and question, and just kept her confused stares on Ryuu.
“Oh, what’s wrong with that? Do people who have experience in having a relationship are the only ones who can give advice or help someone who has problems in love?”
Ryuu didn’t get to speak for a moment. She was too stunned at the fact that Syr had arrived into that thinking.
“Of course yes, where will you even get that advice that you’ll say? To the books, you read? To the dramas and movies you watched?”
Ryuu snickered, adding to the annoyance that Syr is feeling.
“Wow, you really can be annoying. Where is that soft Ryuu that helped me last night? You transformed into the most annoying person.”
Ryuu shrugged her shoulders, not giving a damn about that then grabbed her drinks to take a sip, not bothering to answer the question.
Syr heaved a long sigh, extending her patience.
“Look Ryuu I’m serious. I really want to help you since you’ve been helping me since I arrived in this country.”
Ryuu shook her head and looked uninterestedly at Syr. The way Ryuu looked at Syr is really irritating. Syr is now clenching her teeth, can’t believe how this girl suddenly became really annoying. Ryuu has her elbow on the table and her chin resting on it. Ryuu is shoving fries in her mouth and lazily chewing on them. The fries look like it wasn’t delicious at all because of the way she ate it. It looks so unappetizing. (Guys. This is actually how I ate fries. I’m not a fan of fries and will definitely choose every f*****g food compared to fries but my girl is in love with fries so I’m picking one or two and ate them like this. Eating fries is making me lazy. Hehe. Okay fine, no one’s interested.)
“Come on. What will you even lose if you agree with me? Who knows? Maybe I will be the one who will really get to help you?”
Syr wiggled her eyebrows playfully and gave Ryuu a sly smile, letting her deep dimple got into the picture. Ryuu just scrunched up her nose and didn’t budge. She just keeps eating fries in a very unappetizing way.
“Come on. Don’t be stubborn, Ryuu.”
Syr said and lightly slap the table, startling Ryuu.
Ryuu glared at her and leaned away from the table. She wiped her greasy fingers with the napkin then folded them just below her breasts.
“Fine. Do whatever you want.”
Syr yelped lowly, looking excitedly at Ryuu.
Ryuu just rolled her eyes then remembered to shove some fries again.
“Give me your phone.”
Syr said smiling and gestured for Ryuu to place her phone in Syr’s hand, opened widely and waiting patiently for Ryuu's phone. Ryuu frowned, not understanding why would she give her phone to Syr.
“No. Why would I give my phone to you?”
“I just want to read your conversation with your wife.”
Ryuu stared at her in disbelief. She can’t believe that Syr, a stranger for her last night, someone she barely knew is asking to see her conversation with her wife. How did everything turn into this? Why is this woman being this bold?
“What? No. There’s no way I’ll let you read my conversation with my wife. That’s absurd and it wasn’t called private conversation for someone to snoop on it.”
Syr rolled her eyes in annoyance as a sigh left her lips but she didn’t pull her hand away. She moved her hand lightly, making gestures for Ryuu to give her phone.
“Oh come on Ryuu. Stop being stubborn and just give me your phone. I’ll just read your recent conversations. I won’t do anything. And also it’s okay since I’m asking for your approval.”
“Then it’s a no.”
Ryuu said and picked up once again her burger that was still more than a half. She took a big bite, looking unamused at Syr.
“What the actual f**k? I told you I really won’t do anything.”
Syr said and again gave the table a slap, if their drinks are still full or they barely drank it, it will surely spill on the table and make a mess.
The two suddenly heard someone shushed them, they looked back and saw that it was a middle-aged woman on their next table, covering her son’s ears while glaring at them. The two lightly bowed their heads in embarrassment and mumbled low apologies. After that, they both look at each other and gave each other a glare. Ryuu once again took a bite of her burger and looked away at Syr. While for Syr, she grabbed her drink and finish it.
No one speak for one whole minute until Syr put down her drink and looked at Ryuu again. Feeling someone looking at her, Ryuu looked back at her and raised one of her brows in wonder.
“Just- just give it to me. Give me your phone. I will only read your conversation with her, I promise.”
“You’re still not giving up, eh?”
Syr shrugged her shoulders and said, “Of course.”
Ryuu heaved a long sigh as she searched for the device in her pockets.
Syr however smiled brightly as she saw that Ryuu finally gave up and decided to just hand it to her. She waited patiently, eyes twinkling in excitement, and the smile on her lips is getting wider and wider.
Ryuu finally found it and pulled it out, Syr was about to take it when Ryuu looked like she was handing it to her but Ryuu raised her hand instead, still not letting Syr take her phone away.
“I’ll allow you but if you did something bad, I’ll surely kick you out of my apartment.”
Syr frowned but nodded lightly.
“Good. I’ll unlock it and gave it to you with our conversations flashed on the screen.”
Syr again waited patiently. She just shoved some leftover fries on her mouth while waiting for Ryuu to finally lend her phone.
After a few more seconds, Ryuu finally handed her phone, her conversation with her wife is really flashed on the screen. Syr didn’t say a word and accepted the phone while still eating fries. Syr started scrolling up with her non-grease finger and just stopped when she finally saw a reply from Ryuu’s wife and not just Ryuu’s messages that never got any reply.
Syr scrolled up more, looking for the start of that specific conversation. Gladly, Ryuu no longer protests and just lets Syr read. Then it hit Syr, what if there’s something she shouldn’t read, not the bank accounts or passwords but words that weren’t supposed to be said in public, like intimate words or flirting? What will she do? That would be too awkward for her. Will she stop reading when she came across those words or just don’t bother to start reading the conversation? But if she won’t do that, she doesn’t have any idea how will she even help Ryuu. If she wanted to help Ryuu, she needs to see how is Ryuu doing.
Syr shook her head, getting rid of her thoughts. Ryuu shot her a confused stare and raised one of her brows but didn’t say anything.
Syr finally started reading their conversation and thank God, it was a normal conversation. Just some small flirtings like, asking each other if they eat already and reminding each other to take care. Syr doesn’t understand why is someone needs to remind their partner about that? I mean does that their partner dumb to forget or skip eating? Will she/he will only eat if they were reminded? The same in taking care, Syr is sure that everyone will take care so why do they still need to remind each other that they will take care? Is that how love works? Sounds stupidity only in me.
“What? What’s wrong?”
Ryuu asked when she saw Syr made a sour expression.
“Oh, nothing. I just never thought that you could be sweet and really cheesy.”
Syr said, raising her head from the phone and giving Ryuu a mocking grin. Ryuu blushed at the comment and tried to snatch her phone but Syr is quick to hide the phone on her back.
“Give that back to me.”
Syr stuck her tongue out like a kid in a primary school, teasing her classmates while shaking her head.
Ryuu just sighed and didn’t bother to try for the second time, she just busied herself with her food again.
Syr started scrolling down more now while still eating the greasy fries. It only took her a few minutes before she read everything up until the last message that Ryuu sent this morning. She then handed it back to Ryuu and chewed down a few more fries before she opened her mouth to say something.
“If I were your wife, wait what’s her name again?”
Ryuu rolled her eyes but answered anyway, “Laura.”
“Right, Laura. If I were her, I won’t reply to any of your messages too.”
“What? And why is that?”
Syr paused for a moment, thinking of a better word, a better term to say what she wants to say when she realized that there’s really no better words that would be enough to say the same exact thing.
“Well, you’re kinda annoying.”
“What the-”
Ryuu was about to curse when she remembered the woman who shushed them earlier so she cut off the statement herself.
“Look. I’m not trying to be rude here.”
Syr said, raising her hand in defense then she continued, “I’m just saying the truth.”
Ryuu didn’t say anything and just kept her mouth shut, staring, more like glaring at Syr.
“It’s because all you ever said to your wife is sorry. She knew it, you’re sorry but knowing that won’t be enough to make her reply, to make her talk to you. You need to say something that will get her interest.”
Ryuu still didn’t say anything and just kept staring at Syr. Syr is slowly making sense in Ryuu. She’s getting Syr’s point but what can she even say except for apologizing and begging her wife?
“Hmm. Like, send her a joke. That’s right send her a joke.”
“A joke? Are you crazy?”
Ryuu now regrets that she even thinks that Syr is making sense because right now, Syr is far from making any sense.
Syr heaved a long sigh before she opened her mouth again.
“You don’t understand it Ryuu. There’s a big chance that she will reply if she read something that will confuse her. Believe me.”
Ryuu shaking her head, said “No, no. You’re not making any sense.”
“Oh come on, let’s at least tried before you even said I'm not making any sense.”
Syr folded her arms on her chest and leaned her back on the backrest. Ryuu didn’t say anything and just shook her head in disapproval.
“Okay, how about this, if she didn’t reply for the rest of the day, I’ll shorten my stay at your apartment for only 1 week.”
Ryuu started weighing the conditions, if Syr will only stay for 1 week instead of 2 weeks, that will be a really good deal but still, she isn’t convinced.
“How about making it just for 5 minutes instead of the rest of the day?”
“Oh come on. There’s plenty of possible reasons why she won’t be able to reply easily. Don’t be that greedy.”
“Fine. Fine but still not for the rest of the day but just for 1 hour.”
Syr groaned but soon agreed, she realized that she never win an argument with this girl.
“Fine. Now give me your phone.”
Without further argument, Ryuu handed her phone, watching Syr carefully.
Syr stopped to try to think for a moment then soon started making her fingers moved, typing the best joke, more like a pickup line she can ever think of at this moment.
After several long seconds, she handed the phone back to Ryuu’s hand with a proud smile on her lips.
“What did you sent?”
Syr didn’t say anything and just keep on shoving the remaining fries in her mouth, still with that satisfied smile.
Ryuu then decided to check it herself. One of her brows raised as confusion hit her to the message Syr sent,
What did the coffee drink say to the other coffee drink?
