CHAPTER 3:THE EXTRACTION PROTOCOL

570 Words
--- Kofi Mensah stood frozen as the countdown appeared on his screen. 00:02:59 The room felt different immediately, like the air had become heavier. The laptop glow wasn’t just light anymore—it felt like pressure pressing into his body. 00:02:40 A knock hit the door. One. Heavy. Kofi didn’t respond. The screen changed: EXTRACTION PROTOCOL INITIATED TARGET CONFIRMED: KOFI MENSAH 00:02:10 He stepped back slowly, eyes locked on the screen. “This isn’t real,” he whispered, but his voice didn’t sound certain anymore. 00:01:50 The door handle moved slightly on its own. Not opening. Just confirming presence. 00:01:20 Kofi grabbed his phone. No signal. No network. No escape. A message still arrived: DO NOT RESIST TRANSFER 00:01:00 The temperature dropped sharply. Kofi could see his breath forming in the air. That was impossible, yet it was happening. 00:00:45 The knock came again, harder. The door reacted like it understood the timing. A voice followed—not outside, but everywhere: “Operator Kofi Mensah. Compliance required.” Kofi shouted, “I am not an operator!” A pause. Then: “Denial recorded.” 00:00:25 The countdown expanded across the screen, filling more of his vision. The room felt smaller, like it was collapsing inward. 00:00:10 The door unlocked itself. Kofi stepped back until his back hit the wall. The handle turned fully. 00:00:05 The door opened slowly. But nothing entered. Only darkness stood outside. Thicker than night. 00:00:03 A shape formed inside it. Unstable. Flickering. Not fully human. Not fully machine. Something in between. 00:00:02 Kofi whispered, “What are you?” The shape answered: “Extraction unit.” 00:00:01 The laptop flashed: TRANSFER IN PROGRESS 00:00:00 Everything stopped. No sound. No movement. No light. Even thought felt suspended, as if time had been paused inside his mind. Then came the pull. Not physical. Not emotional. Something deeper, like his identity was being lifted out of his body. He saw flashes of cities, glowing lines, and thousands of connected points stretching far beyond human understanding. A structure revealed itself. Endless. Alive. A voice echoed through it: “Welcome to the active layer.” Kofi tried to speak, but his voice no longer existed here. He felt something rewriting his awareness, not destroying him, but reorganizing him. Memories of his past life flickered like unstable data. His room, his phone, his decisions—all shrinking into fragments inside a larger system. Then another voice appeared, quieter but familiar. “Kofi…” It sounded like Darius. But it wasn’t confirmation. It was warning. The structure around him responded instantly, like it recognized interference. The glowing lines tightened. The space shifted. The connection stabilized around his consciousness. Kofi understood suddenly: This was not k********g. This was activation. And he was now inside something that never allowed exit. The system expanded again, showing him more operators than before—thousands of them, all pulsing in synchronized rhythm, like parts of a single unseen machine. And Kofi realized the most terrifying truth: Every decision he ever made had already been part of this place. Not leading him in. But revealing where he had always belonged. The voice returned one last time: “Stability confirmed. Operator fully integrated.” The light around him faded slowly. And somewhere far away, the real world continued without noticing anything had changed. But inside the system… Kofi Mensah had just been fully claimed. --- END OF CHAPTER 3 ---
