“Nicole, I got you a job,” Cassandra said, smiling as she lowered her body on the couch next to Nicole.
“Oh! Really? Thank you so much. What job is it? What's the nature of the job? Where is it located?” Nicole bombarded her with questions.
“Relax, before I tell you the nature of the job, I have something more important to tell you,” Cassandra said with so much seriousness.
“What is it?” She felt uneasy and her smile started fading away gradually.
When Cassandra noticed that she was no longer smiling like before, she immediately spoke to calm her down.
“Don't be sad, it's not something bad, I promise. I want to tell you that this particular job is a job that will pay you a lot of money, and there are a lot of other benefits that come with the job, but it will require a lot of hard work and detachment from you for a while.” She was not sure of how her friend would react.
“What do you mean by detachment for a while? I understand the place of hard work because all employers want to employ someone who can work hard,”
“But I don't understand the detachment thing, detach from who or what? Why is it part of the job requirements?” Nicole said, totally confused.
“Okay, the thing is, I have a friend at work that I'm very close to. He said that his friend who is a billionaire, needs someone who can pretend to be his wife for one year”
“He said that his friend's grandfather had decided to hand over the total control of the company to the first person that brings a fiancee home between him and his brother.”
“Let it not be what I'm thinking, are you saying I should pretend to be someone's wife when I'm not? Someone that I don't even know,” she refused to believe her ears.
“It is not as hard and deep as you are making it seem”
“Really?” She was still shocked.
“Yes, you know I won't hurt you, right? There would be no form of intimacy between the both of you and the pay is very good, it is twenty million per month and it will last for just a year”
“Think of what twenty million every month for twelve months will do for you. After a year, you both would go your separate ways and you can start a new life with the money you get from there,” she convinced her.
“See, I would have taken the offer but I figured out that you need it much more than I do. The billionaire is popular and well known in this country”
“Why do you think a popular billionaire will be interested in me? I am nobody; I don't have the money and fame to fit in his social class.” Nicole said, still not pleased with the job offer.
“That is the interesting part: the billionaire specifically stated that he does not want a popular person; he needs someone reserved, calm, and collected to do the job,” Cassandra, who is not giving up anytime soon, said.
“Why? Why is that?” Nicole asked.
“Because, according to my friend, he does not want any media drama and if he allows a popular person to do the job, she might be obsessed with putting it on the gram,” she explained.
“See, I already told my friend that I have someone who can do the job; please, don't disappoint me,” she said with a time mixed with pleading and firmness.
“Okay, let's say that I decide to take this job; where will I put my children? Or can he employ someone with kids?”
“I don't think he will employ someone with kids but don't worry, I will take care of the kids. When I'm at work, they would be in school and when I'm coming back from work, I would pick them up,” she said, happy that her friend is finally considering taking the job.
“The place is not so far from here; you can occasionally get permission from him to come see me. Tell him you want to visit your friend, when you come to visit me, you see and spend time with the kids”
“I can see that you have thought this thing through, no problem, I will think about it,” Nicole said.
“There is nothing to think about; just say yes so that I can call my friend that you are in so that they will stop searching.”
“Alright, I'm in,” she said in a surrendering tone.
“That's my girl!” She said with so much excitement, finally, she was able to convince her stubborn friend.
She picked up her phone immediately and called her friend.
“Hey Cassandra, how are you doing?” The caller replied when he picked up the call.
“I'm good. Do you remember my friend that I told you about?” she asked.
“Yes, I do. Is she in?” He asked curiously.
“Yes, she is in. What is the next step? How can she meet up with the man to sign the contract?” She asked, making sure she did not miss out on any questions.
“Hold on for a sec.” he pulled his phone away from his ear and looked at his friend; he whispered something she did not hear clearly.
“Trophy restaurant, tomorrow, 5 pm. Lateness will not be tolerated.”
“Of course, she won't be late. Thank you so much, I appreciate this.” She said happily.
“You are welcome, good night,” he said and ended the call.
“Good night,” she dropped her phone and screamed.
“Hello everyone, my friend is about to make it big.” She emphasized the ‘big’ and left the living room to go shower and change.
Nicole shook her head thinking about the kind of friend she had. She also thought about the job.
“Nicole, it's just for a year, don't think too much about it.” She whispered to herself.
