Casey sat on the edge of her bed, still shaken from the rogue’s attempt earlier. Her hands trembled slightly, though she tried to hide it. She hated feeling weak. Hated feeling hunted. A soft knock sounded on her door. She didn’t need to ask who it was. “Miles,” she said quietly. He stepped inside, filling the doorway with his broad frame, his eyes glowing faintly amber—his wolf still close to the surface. He scanned her room instinctively, checking for threats even though he knew there were none. Then his gaze landed on her. And softened. “You scared me today,” he said, voice low, rough with emotion he rarely let anyone hear. Casey swallowed. “I’m fine.” “You’re not,” he said gently. “And that’s okay.” She looked away, jaw tight. “I don’t want to be a burden.” Miles
