I stared in horror at him. I’d had a vague idea that Maggie had something to do with the license, but to have Kardom stand right there in front of me and confirm it took my breath away. “Why? You’ve evidently already bought off the entire Beck council. Why do you want to marry me so badly?” His jaw tightened for a moment. “Insurance, my dear. I don’t believe in risks without having ample safeguards in place.
