Something inside me snapped.
I turned, my chest tight, my thoughts no longer holding back, and spoke through the anger that had been building inside me since the moment I stepped into this place.
“If you are a gentleman, Vincenzo—and you choose to behave poorly toward me—then what is your reason?”
He didn’t answer me.
Not even a word.
Instead, he looked at Ariel, like I wasn’t even worth responding to.
Like I didn’t matter.
Like I was something beneath him.
Ariel looked annoyed—at me, at him, at everything—and I could feel the tension shifting again.
Then he spoke.
“That’s not how you ask a man to answer anything. When you properly learn your place, you will understand how to behave in the presence of others who hold more power than you could ever imagine.”
