A New Dawn

Supernatural Creatures have lurked in the shadows for centuries until now, when a new discovery forces them out of hiding and threatens a war. (1999) The night was calm as usual in the little cabin of the Walkers. They were having their annual family vacation usually held at their family cabin. They slept peacefully not minding the few honking cars blowing past the highway, which they could hear from the cabin as it wasn't that far from the highway. The sky cried subtly as it drizzled, hugging the cabin with it's cold embrace. The seven year old Chloe Walker had finally fallen asleep after struggling through most of the night. She hadn't dived deeper into the sleep when she opened her eyes suddenly. She sat up on the bed, trying to listen closely to what woke her. She heard it again. The floorboard of the living room creaking as though someone was walking on it. She knew her parents were already asleep and it was unlike them to wake up in the middle of the night, walking about. She quickly settled on whatever or whoever it was being an intruder. Chloe removed the bed cover from her body and exited the bed. She stood up quietly, adjusting the red sweater and blue short she was wearing. She moved a step with her sock covered feet hoping not to make a sound, creeping out of her room quietly. She creeped all the way to the living room but saw no one. She uttered a sigh of relief and was about heading back to her room when she heard muffled sounds that sounded like an argument and pleading coming from her parents room. She started to tiptoe to her parents room when she heard screams. Chloe ran up to her parents room and pushed the slightly opened door. She froze where she stood as her eyes fell on the intruder. Male, quite tall and standing by the window. He was all dressed in black. Black jean, a hoodie with the hood over his head and what looked like an Halloween mask covering his face. She shifted her gaze to her parents bed and that's when she saw what changed her life forever. She gasped, covering her mouth with both her palms as tears clouded her eyes. There laid her parents, in their nightwears, looking pale and lying lifeless together on the bed. Eyes wide open and lips slightly agape. She turned her attention briskly at the intruder who kept staring at her. She willed her legs to move, moving closer to him with tears dropping from her eyes and her palms still muffling the sound of sobs. As she started getting closer, she could see his blue eyes as he stood still, keeping his eyes on her. As she was getting closer, the intruder swiftly jumped out of the window and disappeared into the cold night, leaving Chloe alone with her dead parents. She crashed on the floor and let the sob out. Crying uncontrollably. (22 years later) Chloe gasped as she sat up abruptly, panting and drenched in sweat. She looked around and realized she had been dreaming. She exhaled loudly, calming herself. Turning to the beeping alarm beside her bed, she turned it off. “Crap!" She exclaimed, realizing she was late for work. She got up swiftly, adjusted her blue pyjamas and rushed to the bathroom. Her phone lit up ringing whilst she was in process of brushing her teeth. She spat out the contents in her mouth and picked up the phone “What have we got?" She asked answering the call and tucking her blonde hair behind her ear. Chloe was 5'6 tall with a skinny hourglass figure. She had a creamy vanilla blonde hair that fell slightly below her shoulders. “Alright I'll be right there" she concluded ending the call. *** She parked her car close to the cop cars parked outside the Black apple nightclub. She exited the vehicle, tying her hair into a ponytail as she made her way into the penthouse where the club was situated. “So what do we have here?" She asked walking up to Amy, the forensic scientist examining the body at the centre of the dance floor. “The victim, female, mid 20s" Amy replied “Do we know the cause of death?" She questioned as she bent down examining the body “Thats's where the weird part comes in. You see how the body is looking pale?" Amy asked with Chloe nodding along “That's because the body is drained of blood” “What do you mean? Like the killer drained some of her blood after killing?" She inquired “No, I mean all of her blood. Like every drop...and the killer didn't drain the blood after killing her. Draining the blood killed her" “How was the blood drained?" Chloe asked “This marks right here" Amy lifted up the left hand of the victim, showing the marks on the wrist to Chloe. “Are those...." “Bite marks?! Yeah! I think our killer was a vampire movie lover. So I'm thinking our killer bit the victim very deep, bled her dry and threw her lifeless body down from up there. The witnesses said they were you know, in their clubbing mood when the body fell in the middle of the dancefloor. But no one saw who threw her down" Amy explained “Wow! Do we have anyone who knew our victim personally?" Asked Chloe “Yeah! Her name was Ashley Murray" Nick said coming up behind them. They turned towards him, giving him their attention “Apparently she just graduated from college and she and her boyfriend decided to celebrate it here" He explained “Where's the boyfriend now?" Chloe asked “He's been taken to the precinct, awaiting questioning. He's pretty shook up" Nick replied “Alright, we'll get to him in a minute but first we need to speak with the owner of the club. Who's he?" Chloe asked “That would be me!" A sophisticated looking guy fully dressed in a black suit said, coming out from the elevator leading into the club. He was 6'1, well built with a very dark middle length curtain haircut. He smiled lightly as he walked in their direction. He had this confident aura all around him. “Oh my God!" Amy whispered “Hi! I'm Dawn, Michael Dawn" He smiled at the three of them “I'm Detective Walker, this is detective Jones and this is...." “You can call me Amy!" She said excitedly as she kept on smiling at him. “Nice to meet you lovely ladies and you Jones" He smiled mockingly at Nick who rolled his eyes in response. “So are you the owner of this club?" Nick asked “The whole building actually" Michael replied “Oh! Okay. As you can see, your building is housing a murder and it happened in one of your parties in your club early this morning" Chloe explained “Oh! That's tragic. What happened?" He replied “The victim was killed by her blood being totally drained" Amy explained. His expression darkened as he heard what Amy said. Chloe noticed this but decided not to press on that at the moment. “Where were you around 6am this morning?" She questioned “In my hotel room" He answered “Wait, you own the whole building and a penthouse and you decided to sleep in a hotel?" Chloe gave a puzzled look. “I was outta town for business, just came in last night and I decided to stay at a hotel just to clear my head before diving back into all these. You can check in with the hotel or you can ask Charlotte and Mirinda over there. They were with me all through the night" He smiled at Chloe “Alright Mr Dawn. We'll be in touch with you and we'll need your full cooperation in the investigation of the murder" Chloe said to him “Not a problem detective. This is my card. Call me if you have any questions" He brought out his card and handed it to her before walking away. “I think he's hiding something. He knows more than he's letting on." She pointed out “Really? I don't see it" Amy said, staring at Michael who was climbing the stairs “Alright! Let's go talk to the boyfriend" Chloe instructed Michael watched the Detectives from the bar upstairs as they took their leave. He sipped from the contents of the glass he was holding, his eyes fixated on them as they left. He brought out his phone when he was sure they had left. He dialled a number and held the phone to his ears “We might have a problem" He said to the person on the other end of the call. *** “Aren't there other doctors? Why must it be you?" Chloe said quietly with her phone pressed against her ears as she stood in front of the interrogation room. “You already cancelled yesterday, you worked all night and I had to wake up alone today. I want to have a romantic dinner with my fiancé. Can you make that work?........thank you" She smiled “Love you too" She concluded, ending the call. “Are you ready?" Nick asked coming up behind her “Yeah!" She replied, tucking her phone in her pants’ pocket They entered the interrogation room where the boyfriend of the victim was seated waiting for them. Chloe sat directly opposite him, while Nick stood behind her. “Hi, I'm Detective Walker and this is my partner Detective Jones" “I can't believe this is happening" The boyfriend said with sadness, looking at the Detectives “Can you walk us through what happened?" Chloe asked “Yeah, uhm...She just graduated and we decided to go celebrate at the Black apple. It wasn't our first time going there. So we went, started doing shots and soon we were pretty drunk. We continued dancing all through the night. I then took a bathroom break, leaving her on the dancefloor. When I came back from the restroom, she...she...she was gone. I searched for her but couldn't find her, I went back to the dancefloor to search again, maybe i...I missed her somehow and.......and that's when she landed in front of me. Dead" he explained as he began sobbing “And you didn't see whoever it was that threw her over?" Nick asked “No, nobody saw whoever it was. It was as if the person vanished" He replied The door opened with Amy's head sticking into the room “Detective we've got the CCTV footage. You have to see this" she announced “We'll be right back" Chloe said to him before she and Nick left the room following Amy. “Hey, Chloe" Nick called as he stopped Chloe in front of the forensics lab “What's up?" She turned to face him “Are you okay?" He asked with concern “Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" She asked with furrowed brows “You know, with the case. The way the victim was killed. I just assumed, you know...." “Oh you mean because it's similar to how my parents were murdered?! Yeah, I don't think it's the same killer. That was 22 years ago. The killer would be what? 40-50 years by now?" She replied, shaking her head sideways “There's no age restriction for killers" Nick pointed out folding his arms “I know but I just have this strong feeling that it's not the same guy. But I guess we'll find out at the end. Let's take a look at the footage" she concluded as they both walked into the forensic lab. “What do you have for us Amy?" “Take a look at this." Amy played the footage on the computer. “That's our victim right there getting her groove on. Now watch her as she stopped dancing and moved towards the restroom" “Who the hell is that?" Chloe asked “Don't know. Her face isn't visible to the camera. Looked like she stopped the victim, exchanged words with the victim for a few seconds and the victim just followed her out of sight" She explained “What the hell is she wearing?" Nick asked curiously “Apparently someone likes costumes or likes role playing ladies of the 18th century" Amy joked as she zoomed in the mystery girl on the footage. “We have to find whoever that is. She might be the last person to see our victime alive or the person that took her life" Chloe stated ***Catskill Mountains*** The leaves rustled as he raced through the woods, panting heavily with terror in his face. He glanced back every few seconds to get a look at whatever was chasing him as he continued sprinting with every ounce of his strength and screaming for help. He soon came out into the settlement of his pack. Alerted by his screams, they all stood up and turned to his direction, looking for whatever was chasing him. Some of the guys ran towards him to save him from whatever it was. They held him, trying to calm him down. Some still staring in the direction he came through, waiting for the danger to show itself. They gathered around him, trying to get him calm down, so he could explain what was chasing him. He was still panting fiercely as he knelt on the ground. After a while he slowed down his heavy breathing. “What the hell happened?" Tyrell, the Alpha of the pack asked with his deep voice as he came to where the others where gathered around the boy. They cleared way for him to come in contact with the boy. “Alpha!" The boy exclaimed. ”I...I saw...I saw them. Two of them" He stuttered in an effort to explain “Who? Who did you see?" Tyrell questioned The boy looked at everyone around him. He knew what he was gonna say would sound crazy to them and they wouldn't believe him and why would they, when he was just a teenage boy yet to fully transform. Just a teenage boy who's about to say what everyone believed is a myth and doesn’t exist. “What did you see boy??" Tyrell barked, his eyes turning red “Witches! Witches!!" The boy blurted out in fear as his wolf reacted to the Alpha’s voice. Everyone gasped and murmured as they heard what the boy said. Some even laughed. “That's absurd! Witches aren't real. They are just myths" Tyrell replied “I know what I saw. You have to believe me" He cried out as they started walking away from him. *** Michael entered Into his room in the penthouse and went straight to his closet. He opened it and parted the hunged clothes, exposing the hidden door of the closet which exposed the secret elevator behind. He pressed the elevator button and stepped into it. The elevator opened into an underground room under the building. He stepped into the dark room and made his way further into the room until he got to a door and then turned the doorknob. He got into the inner room and turned on the lights. His expression darkened as he stared at the opened coffin at the middle of the room. He walked closer to the coffin and sighed “Bloody hell!" He said to himself almost whispering on seeing the inside of the coffin empty.
