Taking a deep breath, Emma dialed Carter's number.
The call soon connected, and Carter's deep voice came through. "You finally picked up."
"Sorry, Carter," Emma spoke with calm.
Carter paused for a second, seemingly taken aback by her composed tone—it was as if nothing had changed.
He quickly regained his bearings and got down to brass tacks. "I didn't expect things to blow up like this."
