CHAPTER ONEThe warmth of the sun sipped through Meredith’s flawless brown skin as she jogged to school. The only reason she had decided to walk to school this particular Monday morning, was entirely to feel this. The sun was a rare sight in Wolf Street Town. It was mostly foggy and chillingly cold. Smiling lightly, she slowed down into a walk as she entered the school parking lot. Richford was highly recognized for its high population of rich kids but that didn’t mean middle class kids like Meredith didn’t fit in quiet well. They treated each other like any other normal people but the rift between the rich kids and the other kids was without a doubt crystal clear. They would be driving the latest Ferrari when some other kid was still stuck driving their father’s old jeep. But even among the rich kids, there were still the easily outstanding kids. As she continued walking, she heard the screech of tires right behind her as she leaped slightly to the left.   “What the hell is wrong with you?” She turned to look at who she had pissed off though judging from the familiarity of the voice, she had a pretty good guess of the person.   Brian Knight, the golden popular boy of the school. He was famous for his rendezvous with different girls each passing day of the week. With his dirty blonde hair, razor-sharp jaw and blue eyes it was really hard not to fall for him. Almost half the girls in school had been trying to get his attention and no one could blame them. He always had this famous, sexy grin, where the right side of his lips tilted up a bit and made Meredith feel like she was made of pure jelly. She had lost track of how long she had been struggling with her undying crush for him.   “I’m sorry,” she mumbled feeling her face heat up.   He clicked his tongue driving past her with his clique, probably now talking about how much of a dud she was. Shaking her head, she continued walking but not before someone roughly tapped her shoulder drawing her to a halt.   “Vivian,” she spoke with a deep smile accentuating her lips.   “What was that?” Vivian, her gossipy best friend inquired, her eyes carrying a glint of excitement. Leave it to her to never miss a thing.   “What was what?” she played dumb as they began walking to their first class, English. She was obviously not going to back down until she got the details but it was better to give it a try.   “That. Did Brian Knight just talk to you?” sometimes it was funny how she made a mountain out of a molehill.   “Or more like yelled at me,” Meredith pointed out as a matter of fact.   “Oh come on. Brian Knight never yells at anyone so cut it out. Did he ask you for your number?” she bubbled eagerly. There was some truth in her words. Brian Knight was indeed a playboy but not the type that was rude or a bully. No, he was different, almost like he cared about people’s feelings. Keyword almost because if he actually cared then he would not be the cause of a line of heartbreaks in Richford High.   “As if,” Meredith muttered as they walked into the class.   They were comfortably settled on their seats while chatting when Brian’s clique walked in, the whole room falling silent momentarily to witness their entrance. Of course, at the front was Brian Knight, followed by Sarah Melton his model gorgeous blonde cousin, James Rivers, the tall dark handsome best friend and lastly was Ryan Rivers, James’ equally hunky twin brother. Meredith was still staring at them just like everyone else when they walked past her with Sarah falling behind them. She dipped down, her sea green orbs staring into Meredith’s dark brown eyes.   “It’s rude to stare, Laurent,” she walked after her clique leaving Meredith drowning in dire embarrassment as a few chuckles vibrated in class. It was one thing to stare but it was another to get caught staring. If she could, Meredith would have borrowed Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak.   “Well, that was something. Two of the mighty clique talked to you in less than an hour,” Vivian whispered.   “Yeah but something is off with them. Why do they seemed pissed off? This so much unlike of them,” She couldn’t help but observe. Well, her observation was largely based on Brian considering his cousin was always rude.   “Enough with them. Guess what I heard?” Vivian whispered.   “What?” as usual Meredith was clueless. She was not really into gossiping but if something was juicy enough for her ears then she couldn’t help but want to know. But when it comes to Vivian, she was ever ahead in what was happening around in school.   “So I heard that there is a new boy coming into town and he is joining our school. I think his name is Mace or something close to that,” Vivian muttered excitedly.   “And how did you hear that?” Deep down Meredith had a feeling she already knew the answer to that question.   “I just happened to be walking by the principal’s office yesterday after classes,” she shrugged nonchalantly avoiding Meredith’s questioning gaze.   “Did you really happen to be walking by the principal’s office?” She pulled up her eyebrows in suspicion while looking at Vivian.    “Okay, I eavesdropped. So what? I still got the juicy steak out of it,” she leaned back on her chair, pushing a stray strand of her hair to the back of her ear.   “Morning students. Today I’m really excited. We have a new student from LA joining us,” all students looked up as Miss Trevor excitedly introduced. The two friends hadn’t even noticed her walking into the room.   Everyone’s gaze shifted to the door, watching as a dirty blonde-haired tall boy walked in, his face set into a cold stone expression. There was something entirely off about him that Meredith couldn’t quite put her finger on it but she was pretty sure it wasn’t his unusually pale skin or is clearly out of this world kind of looks. It was like he had this dark, cold sensation hanging around him, she couldn’t quite fathom. The moment that thought crossed her mind, the new boy looked directly at her, his dark gaze penetrating through the thickness of her skin, piercing right into the deepest part of her soul as a small shiver rent her whole body. She tried to swallow down the sudden fear that seemed to hypnotize her but without any success.   Meanwhile, at the back of the class, Sarah was trying to calm down Brian who was grinding his jaw as he stared at the front of the class. He could feel his dragon trying to come out and it was taking all his efforts to control it. Ace always made him on edge and he hated it more than he had ever hated anything in his whole life.   “He is not worth it Brian,” Sarah, who was sitting next to him, whispered and he knew she was right. But this was Ace. He never knew when to quit and he would do just about anything to get on his nerves.   As he stared at the new boy, he realized he had his attention fixed on someone else. With his heart beating so damn fast in his chest, he followed his gaze and found it focused on Meredith. Cussing lowly under his breath, he suddenly stood up, walked to where she was sitting and quickly ordered Vivian out of her seat. Meredith faintly heard someone slide next to her where Vivian was supposed to be. She couldn’t bring herself to tear her gaze from the strange boy’s dark gaze. It felt as though he had willed her to just look at him and strangely enough that was all she seemed to be doing. He was hot to say the least but something about his whole demeanor was off-putting and she didn’t understand why.
