Chapter Two
The ride to school was filled with awkward silence. Incredibly awkward silence. A matter of hours ago we went from declaring our love for each other to me finding out his secret! That he was a f*****g werewolf! I didn’t even know they existed let alone I had slept with one!
I shook my head, trying to forget about it all because if I didn’t, I’d probably have a mental breakdown. It was just one more thing my very fragile mind had to process and right now I couldn’t handle it.
‘What are you thinking about?’ He asked. I couldn’t even look at him, So I turned my head and gazed out the window.
‘Nothing’. I knew I was being cold and distant, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t mean to be, I just.. Wanted to be as far away from him as possible, yet I was f*****g trapped in a god damn car with him.
‘You really hate me now huh?’ His question made my heart sink. No. Of-f*****g-course I don’t hate him. I don’t think I could ever hate him.. I just don’t know how to react to him any more.
‘No. I don’t hate you.. I just… can't stand to be around you’.
‘That hurts more than if you’d have just said you hated me Ellie’. Hearing the pain and longing in his voice just made another dagger pierce my heart, but I swallowed the lump building in my throat and closed my eyes, willing myself not to try.
Luckily, we pulled up at school not long after and as soon as Michael pulled in to a car parking space, I pulled my seatbelt off and got out of the car as fast as I could. He hadn’t even turned the engine off. I ignored him calling me back and hurried around the building and in through the front entrance.
There were student’s everywhere and as I walked passed them I caught little snippets of their conversation. Amanda Blacks grandma died over the summer, Toby Day got a puppy, Erin Mcdonald went on holiday to Australia and Nelson O’conner was sent to summer school. I tuned out all the chatter and just made a bee line to my new home room.
I had my school schedule sent to me a few days ago, So I knew where I was going, and as I walked in to the room, i was greeted by the friendly and happy faces of my friends.
‘Hey Belly!’. I rolled my eyes at my friends’’affectionate’’ nickname for me. I was fat and it rhymed with Ellie. I didn’t find it offensive, they had called me ‘’belly’’ since we were in Pre-K.
‘Hey guys!’. These friends, in my home room, I hadn’t seen all summer. Anna, Lauren, Raven and Sophie were all related, Anna and Lauren were sisters, and Raven and Sophie were their cousins (Their parents were all siblings) So they went away on a big family vacation. It was sweet in a way, they still had their traditions. ‘Did you have a good summer?’ They all nodded and started telling me about all the fun and exciting things they got up too... And the cute guys they dated.
Their accents… their eyes, how they kissed sooo good, Yuck.
‘Wow, sounds like you all had a brilliant time!’.
‘We did! How was Hawaii?! Did you have your summer love?’ My smile instantly dropped but I relaced it quick enough in the hope they didn’t notice.
‘Great holiday, No love though’. I changed the subject quickily to something more.. Boring, before we rested on just discussing who our Home room teacher would be. It wasn’t stated in any of my information.
‘Yeah, I thought that was weird’. Sophie added, agreeing.
‘I heard there are a few new teachers this year, so might be one of them’. We hmmm’ed and nodded. I hope it wasn’t Michael!
About 10 minutes later, the bell rang and very slowly everyone started finding their seats. I sat down at a desk in the back and randomly looked out the window, letting myself day dream, at interested at all in the world around me, Until Raven kicked my ankle, getting my attention. I hissed in pain and looked over at her.
She nodded towards the front of the class and mouthed the word ‘’Hottie’’ to me. What? Looking up, my hopes were instantly pissed on when I saw Mike standing there, looking around the room with the biggest, proudest look on his face.
As soon as his eyes rested on me, he held my face for a few seconds and then carried on looking around the room.
