Chapter Three

2555 Words
It was currently six thirty and here I was, standing outside the door of a boy who claimed to know me. Spencer Pitts. That name didn't sound familiar at all to me, but since he knew me, that meant that he had to at least have some kind of connection with me. Maybe we had a class together? Maybe we met at a party? Hm, actually that second one wasn't it, I usually don't go to parties, mainly because I don't get invited to them. The door swung open, revealing a smiling Spencer.      He seemed to have changed his clothes. He looked better in my opinion. Spencer invited me inside and I enter, immediately getting struck with the sweet aroma of chocolate chip cookies. Speaking about chocolate chip cookies, that was the exact thing that Cooper was making with Davis back at my house. He thought that baking cookies with Davis would keep him busy long enough for me to get my laptop back and make it back home.      Luckily, Spencer only lived ten minutes away so it wasn't like it was going to be difficult to return home. I had my volume high on my phone because I needed to hear if Cooper were to call or text me. The lecture I was expecting from Davis did happen when I got home, but he was quick to forgiving me when I said that I wasn't feeling good. Cooper soon came and had all this stuff to bake cookies but when I said I felt sick, Cooper said that he didn't know what to do. I suggested that Davis should just bake the cookies with Cooper.      One of Cooper's superpowers is persuasion, and that was exactly what he did to Davis, and that led to Cooper and Davis baking cookies together. "Glad you could make it Lilli," spencer greets, leading me into his kitchen. "I would offer you a cookie, but we don't have time."      We entered his kitchen and he pulled apart the curtains above his sink, exposing the house of McKay through the window. It was huge! I wasn't surprised though, from the clothes that McKay wore, I already knew that he had more dollars than sense. Spencer asked for my attention and I give it to him. "Alright, he should be leaving soon so I'll give you the quick rundown," spencer said, rubbing his hands together. "first off, you're going to have the whole house to yourself so I don't think you're going to need to worry about getting caught once McKay is out. His parent's are out on their honey moon and won't be returning until next week. Next thing, his bedroom is on the second floor, which means that you're going to have to use a ladder which can be found behind that bush over there," he pointed out. "and then—" "Why is there already a ladder behind the bush?" I ask out of curiosity. "Did you guys plant it there or something?" Spencer snorted. "Nah. His girlfriend uses it all the time to sneak into his bedroom, so this ain't the first time a girl is sneaking into his bedroom." "Okay, um, I guess that checks out," I respond hesitantly. "also, how do you know that his backpack is going to be in his bedroom?" "Because who doesn't put their backpack in their bedroom when they get home?" spencer asked. He had a point. "Anyways, no more questions. You're going to sneak into his bedroom, find his backpack, take your laptop back and leave. Easy as that. No playing around, because if you doddle, you're just asking to be caught."      I couldn't believe that I was actually going to sneak into somebody's bedroom late at night, especially my crushes bedroom. The sound of a loud engine soon filled the air. Spencer hurriedly shut the curtains and gripped onto my wrist. I jump a little from the tightness of his grip. He dragged me out of the kitchen and back to his front door. "That loud ass engine is definitely McKay's truck," spencer whispered softly. I didn't know why he was whispering. "now we just wait."      There we both were, standing at his front door, Spencer's hand still connected to my wrist. I wasn't complaining. His eyes were fixated on the door, he was in the zone. It wasn't long until we heard the truck drive past the door, triggering Spencer's next action. He let go of my wrist and lunged at the door to pull it open. He took one step out and scanned the area. I kind of found it cute how into the situation he was. Spencer turned around and motioned to me that the coast was clear.      I mock him and did the same actions toward the door that he did. Spencer saw my teasing approach and smirked. Spencer patted me on the shoulder. "Alright, you know what to do next," spencer said meekly. "best of luck, and don't get caught, and if you do, just run to your car and drive away. Fast. Okay? Okay. I'll see you tomorrow in class—Oh, um, I mean, school. Yeah, um, go!"      Spencer shoved me forward and backed away back into his house and slammed the door on me. In class? He practically just gave away the source of how he knew me. I just didn't know what class it was. I shake those thoughts out of my head and continue on to McKay's side of the house of his bedroom. It took a while, but once I reached it, I got the ladder that was behind the bush and propped it up against the side of the house.      Heights is my number one fear, which meant that climbing this ladder up to a second floor of a house wasn't going to be easy. I had to suck it up and just do it though. I inhale a deep breath before putting my foot on the first step of the ladder. From there, I climbed and never looked down because if I did, I wouldn't be on the ladder any longer. After a few moments of climbing, I finally reached McKay's window.      I barely lift it, just to see if it was unlocked, and surprisingly, it was. McKay is going to get robbed someday. I slide his window open and climb quietly climb inside. Once I was inside, I look across at Spencer's house. He was watching me from his kitchen window. He threw me a thumbs up to let me know that I was in the clear. I nod and turn around, shortly noticing that his bedroom was as big as his house looked. "Alright, if I was McKay's backpack, where would I be?"      As my search began, minutes and minutes passed, and his backpack was nowhere in sight. I was beginning to doubt that he actually had his backpack in his room. I really didn't want to search his entire house, I would get lost in a second. I enter his bathroom, that was the size of my kitchen at home. Dang. This boy is rich. I continue the hunt for his backpack. It seemed odd that it would be in his bathroom, but it was an option.      All of a sudden, my phone blared with the ringtone of Spencer's cell calling me. I jump in surprise, but remember that I was alone in the house so I didn't need to worry about being quiet. I take out my phone and answer it. "MCKAY IS GOING INSIDE OF THE HOUSE! YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF THERE LILLI!"      I about dropped my phone from the panic that was visible within Spencer's voice. I hang up and shove my phone back into my back pocket while rushing out of his bathroom. My heart pounded as I heard footsteps making their way up the stairs, followed along with McKay's soothing voice. It sounded like he was on the phone. I was seconds away from McKay's window but a metallic light reflection caught my eye. I snap my eyes to the side only to see his backpack in the most obvious place of the bedroom. It was up against his nightstand beside his bed.      I couldn't leave now that I knew where his backpack was! I knew I was running out of time so I just did what my body made me do. I lurch at his master bed and roll underneath it, the exact second I was underneath his bed was the second he opened his door. I remained on my stomach, trying not to breath loudly. My eyes fearfully watch McKay's white Nike's move around on the floor. He was completely unaware of my presence. I was lucky enough to have the blankets on his bed to be drooped low enough that he wasn't able to see me. "I've been planning this date for a week now babe, are you sure that you can't make it?" I heard McKay ask. My blood starts to boil with anger when I realize who he was talking to. It was his no good "girlfriend" Diane, and what was she doing? Of course, cancelling the last second on McKay! That b***h. I could clearly hear the disappointment in McKay's voice as he responded to her answer. "Fine. It's really okay babe, don't worry about it. We'll just have to do the date another night. I hope you have fun at your girl's night out."      I gape. I couldn't believe it. Diane dropped out of a date that McKay had been planning for a week for a last minute girl's night out? She's even worse than I thought. I listen to McKay hang up on Diane and toss his phone onto the bed. I stare at his feet as they paced around his bedroom. He released a frustrated sigh. "You know, it would have been nice to know that you had plans with your girls before I made reservations at one of the most expensive restaurants," mckay said out loud. He seemed to be talking to himself. "I really need to stop going all out on these dates. She doesn't even appreciate them enough."      I bit my tongue as the urge of screaming "Yes! Break up with that b***h!" came through my mind. Did McKay not realize that she doesn't appreciate him? She doesn't deserve him. McKay's feet stopped moving and he lifted his foot up and took off his shoe. Oh crap, he was taking off his shoes. After he removed the shoes off of his feet, I was slowly backing away, hoping he wasn't going to do what I thought  he was going to do. Unfortunately, he did.      I tried my very hardest to try to dodge his throw, but it was too difficult. McKay hurled his white Nike's straight underneath his bed. His shoes came hurdling toward me, smacking me straight in the face. I could tell he put power in his throw because of the amount of pain it brought me. He must be really pissed off that Diane dropped out of the date last minute. As my forehead was throbbing with pain, I had to fight the pain.      My teeth dig deep into my bottom lip as I tried not to react. I had to stay quiet. My hands clenched on the carpet tightly as I tried to breath the pain away. No pain, no glory. No pain, no glory. I could survive the pain, it might leave a bruise, but it won't matter later on. McKay's white socks left his bedroom and into his enormous bathroom. I didn't take another second and army crawled out from underneath his bed. He was going to take a while in the bathroom so this was my chance.      I ignore the agonizing pain and race toward his backpack. The closer I got to it, the more clearer I could see my precious laptop sticking out. It was happening. I didn't get caught. I wasn't going to get caught. I couldn't help but smile as I slid my laptop out of his backpack. I hug it tightly and turn around to dart toward his window, only to freeze in my tracks. There he stood, staring at me with wide eyes. "What the hell?!"      It was at the very moment, everything in my body completely shut down, including my grip on my laptop. It slowly slipped out of my arms and went plummeting toward the ground. I stare at McKay as his eyes followed the laptop falling. The next thing I heard didn't make either of us happy. As soon as the laptop hit the ground, my mind came back to reality and I was staring at the broken laptop that was now smoking on the ground. "My laptop!" we both screamed in unison. I pause. I forgot that McKay didn't know. I raise my eyes up, only to make contact with those gorgeous eyes again. "I can expI—" "Wait a second!" mckay shouted, pointing and squinting at me as if he was observing me. "Aren't you that chick who go—"      My fight or flight instinct clicked and I flew right out of there, and by flew, I mean I booked it. I didn't let McKay finish his statement and zoomed right past him and toward the window. I could feel him reach for me but I was able to swerve before he could stop me. I didn't even take a second to think and hopped out of the window and onto the ladder. I risked my life, yet, life seemed to have wanted me to stay alive. I did that thing that people did in the movies and grabbed on the side of ladder, sliding straight down. It actually worked.      The very second I hit the ground, I turn around and sprint as fast as my un-athletic legs could take me. McKay was calling for me to stop from his window, but all I did was ignore his calls and ran. I hated running, but if it meant that I didn't have to face the horrible truth of what I just did, I would run forever. I run back to Spencer's house and straight to my car. Spencer called out for me to stop, but I just couldn't, I had to get out. I knew if I stopped, McKay would catch me, even though I was pretty sure he wasn't chasing me.      I get in my car, shove my car keys in and I stomp on the gas pedal. I was thrown back in my seat as the car screeched onto the road. I look at Spencer through the rear-view mirror. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. McKay caught me. My laptop was broken. All those writings of me and McKay were gone. Forever. My phone soon started ringing loudly, I was already going through so much. I skillfully took out my phone and saw that it was Cooper. I sigh in despair and press the answer. "H-Hello?" I greet. I was shaking. "Cooper, what is it?" "Lilli, what the hell do you think you're doing?! I thought that you said that you were si—"      It was Davis. Now I was caught in both ways. Great. I just can't catch a break.
