Chapter two

1075 Words
I woke up sometime around 3.00pm, I looked around the different room which didn't look like my room which was comfy and cute. It took a while before the previous day event came rushing back, I still couldn't believe mom was dead but I couldn't keep crying, mum wouldn't want that so it was time to gather myself together and inform the other family members that mom was dead. I stood up from the bed and walked to the toilet which was inside the room, I washed off the makeup on my face and as I leaned against the sink. I kept seeing a flashback of my mom cold and pale body. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep back so instead of trying to, I walked down the stairs to go to the kitchen to get a coffee and something to eat. It was not my first time coming to Ayomide's place so I didn't need help getting what I needed, I took a sachet of instant coffee and switched on the boiling kettle which was already filled with water. I sat down on the dining table as I thought about the long process that I had to go through before everything could be settled and I was it was going to take a few months but first I had to call Aunty Rose. Aunty Rose was my mom elder sister, she was 3 years older than my mom and the best aunty I could have ever asked for. I wonder how she was going to take the news, I just hoped that she will be strong enough to hear the news. My hand trembled as I called her at dawn the next morning. "Good morning Ma."My voice trembling as I thought of ways to break the news to her. "Good morning my dear. How are you? Being a while I heard from you." she said. "Hmmm yes..."I stuttered. "Yewande, what is it?" she asked sensing something is wrong. "It is mama ooh." I said full-blown crying. "What happened to your mother?!" she said In a panic "What happened to my sister?" she asked again when I didn't reply her. "Maaaammmaaa..."I stuttered "What is it, tell me!!" she said panicking. "Maaammaa... is dead."I said quietly barely hearing myself. The line went quiet for a while before I heard her scream. "Yeee!! Yeah!!" she screamed. "Who did I offend, Who did our parent offend that killing my sister is the next thing!! The person should have killed me instead."She lamented crying loudly and all of a sudden I heard uncle Daniel's voice. "What happened."Her husband asked her. "It is Esther ooh!! Its is Esther ooh." she kept on repeating like A mantra. "What happened to her.is she sick?" he asked confused. He picked up the phone from where Aunty Rose had dropped it a few minutes later when she heard the bad news. "Hello Yewande, what happened to your mother?" he asked when his wife wouldn't reply him. "Mama is deeeaaaddd.."I said stuttering on the word "dead." "OMG!" he screamed. "What happened, was she sick." he asked as I explained that she wasn't sick and how I had met her dead when I got home. "May her soul rest in perfect peace." he said sadly. "Amen."I replied with tears still in my eyes. "So, where are you now." he asks "At friends."I replied "OK, send me the address. We will be there soon but first I have to calm your aunty down." he said "Ok, sir."I said. "Take care of yourself." he said as he cut the call. I was emotionally and physically drained as I dropped my phone on the table. Ayomide came downstairs a few minutes later. "Yewande!" he said surprised to me downstairs. "How are you?" he asked sitting beside me. "I just called Aunty Rose."I said ignoring his question so I won't end up lying that I am fine. "ooh, how did she take the news."he asked. "Bad."I said simply but it was more than enough to convey my message. An uncomfortable silence fell on us until he asked he stood up to make breakfast. As he made the breakfast, I made a call to my father's company manager to inform him about the death of my mother and that I also wouldn't be available at work for now. Ayomide served me yam, fried egg with tea an hour later and I started at the meal for a long while until he coughed. "Thanks."I said looking gloomy as it started turning my fork around the egg. "Aren't you eating?" he asked after a while when I haven't eaten even a bite. "Ooh, I am."I said as I took a bite. "It's good."I lied unconsciously not even tasting what I ate. After a few forced bites, I stood up and told him I was full.I walked into my room to prepare to go to the police station for the statement. As I got inside the room, I realized that I had nothing to wear so I opened the wardrobe which was scanty except for a few male big shirt and sweater but I was lucky to find a soveniour clothe which I place on the bed. I opened my bag and opened a small corner of the bag to remove a spare pant which I always put there because of impromptu menstruations. I stripped my clothing as I walked to the toilet, I showered and rinsed my teeth before using the towel in the toilet to wrap myself. I walked into the room and dressed quickly, not bothering to cream my body or comb my fixed weave which I had bonded yesterday. I walked down the stairs looking rough with the big souvenir top and wrinkled skirt. My hair looked rough because it wasn't combed but I cared less at the moment. My bag was slung over my shoulder instead of being carried in the classic way I always did. "Do you have a pair of slippers."I asked Ayomide as I walked downstairs barefooted. "Yes, you can wear the house slippers." he said. "Thank you."I said since I didn't want to wear heels to the station. "Are you ready to go." he asked. "Yes."I said picking my phone from where I had dropped it yesterday. "Let's go." he said as he opened the door. ~~~~ A'N-Hey lovelies, are you loving this. Anyways, let see what happens in the police station. Anticipate!!!
