The woman was surprised by Robert's sudden change of attitude.
But she didn't dare offend the man in front of her, let alone cling to him. His tactics in social circles were notorious, not to mention he was from one of the most prestigious families.
It's best to avoid such a person if she somehow ends up dead inexplicably.
The woman could only leave disappointedly.
Robert drove around and finally stopped at the bus stop.
He saw Jennifer still standing there alone, waiting for the bus.
"Get in the car," he said briefly, rolling down the window.
Jennifer was surprised to see him again. She glanced at the empty passenger seats.
Where's that woman from before?
What are his intentions? Does he want to take me somewhere else to continue this?
Jennifer hesitated for a moment, shaking her head in refusal: "I'll take the bus home."
Robert continued, "Come on, I want to ask you something."
What exactly does he want to ask her?
Jennifer didn't believe him and took two steps back, clearly unwilling to get in his car.
Robert was getting more and more impatient: "Jennifer, can't you understand what I'm saying?"
Jennifer pursed her lips, leaning against the bus stop sign, motionless, mute.
As stubborn as a mule.
If she didn't get in, he wouldn't leave. They had reached an impasse.
Until the cars behind started honking impatiently.
But Robert didn't seem to hear it, waiting motionlessly for her.
"Miss, get in the car! Can't you and your boyfriend stop arguing in the road and blocking traffic?"
"No morals!" another driver said.
Jennifer was thin-skinned and could no longer stand it. She reluctantly got in.
She had wanted to sit in the back, but the door wouldn't open no matter how hard she pulled. She could only reluctantly sit in the passenger seat.
"Put on your seatbelt," Robert reminded her.
Jennifer pulled the seatbelt over and buckled up. The car sped out of the bus stop swiftly.
At a red light, Robert suddenly asked her, "What's your relationship with Daniel?"
Jennifer was confused: "What?"
Robert said coldly, "The Royal Oak, a restaurant that would cost you half a month's salary for a meal. Do you think Daniel cares so much about someone for no reason?"
Jennifer frowned to explain, "He said I'm his apprentice, so he takes care of me more."
This kind of nonsense is only suitable for fooling a naive college student like her.
Robert tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, his tone icy cold, "I'm warning you again, stay away from him."
"Why?" Jennifer thought he was being ridiculous.
He has no right to interfere with her relationship with Daniel, right?
The deal was already over. Why does he still meddle so much? She really couldn't understand it.
"He's not as simple as you imagine. Jennifer, as someone who has slept with you twice, please accept my well-intentioned advice and don't ignore it."
Robert's brow furrowed.
"......"
Jennifer didn't want to discuss this with him, because she knew she couldn't convince him and he wouldn't listen to her explanation either. She just remained silent.
Sleeping together twice didn't matter, they were still strangers with no contact.
The traffic light turned green and the car moved forward again.
Neither of them spoke. Robert vaguely felt that this woman was obedient on the surface but very stubborn at heart.
She was just gentle in nature, good at passive resistance through silence.
He rubbed his eyebrows with one hand, changing the subject.
"Where's your new residence?"
Jennifer's heart sank, "Why do you ask?"
"To take you back." Robert glanced at her, somewhat helpless.
Jennifer looked outside, they were already on the overpass. She reluctantly gave the address, Thriftshire Cottages."
Robert searched for it in the navigation, then remembered that this was an area with many partitioned rental units, with a mixed crowd, overall very chaotic.
He was surprised she would rent a place like this.
He set the destination in the navigation and drove over.
Forty minutes later, the car stopped under the building. Now was the beginning of nightlife, all kinds of food stalls around, smoke filled, vendors shouting loudly.
Many people were drinking outside, noisy and chaotic.
Robert's car looked out of place here.
Jennifer didn't let him into the complex, but had him stop at the roadside, because the road conditions inside were even worse, more crowded, very easy to bump into people if one wasn't careful.
"Thank you for sending me back, goodbye."
Jennifer politely expressed her gratitude and tried to open the door to get out.
The next second, she heard a "click", the door was locked.
She couldn't help but turn to look at the man, bewildered.
"I'll say it again, keep your distance from Daniel, stay vigilant, understand?"
His repeated words did make Jennifer angry.
She took a breath, looking at Robert unpleasantly, "Who I keep my distance from or get close to is my own business. We've slept together twice. It doesn't mean you can dictate my interpersonal relationships. Don't you think you're overstepping?"
Robert didn't expect her to dare talk back.
His face darkened a little, "Jennifer, your mouth has become vicious, hasn't it?"
Jennifer plucked up her courage and continued, "I'm just telling the truth. Mr. Daniel treats you so well, yet you slander and sow discord behind his back. Frankly, I should keep my distance from you."
Robert's grip on the steering wheel grew tighter and tighter, until the veins in his arms bulged out.
Now it's good! Her words had suddenly become so sharp. The once docile cat now bites without any warning!
It seems her gentleness in bed was all an act!
"Mr. Robert, please open the door." Jennifer said stiffly.
Robert turned to stare at her. In the dim car, his gaze was piercing, as if wanting to see through her inside and out.
Jennifer straightened her back. When her eyes met his, she was not afraid at all.
She had hidden enough these past two days.
"Jennifer, you've got guts."
Robert suddenly let out a cold laugh, spitting out these words forcefully.
With a "click", he opened the car door. Jennifer didn't wait to ponder his intention, immediately twisted the handle and jumped out.
She seemed afraid he would chase after her, and swiftly disappeared into the courtyard.
Robert sat in the car, anxiously lighting a cigarette and took a few puffs, feeling even more agitated. He stubbed it out. Recalling her endless chatter just now, he closed his eyes and cursed under his breath.
Damn it.
With such backbone, he really wanted to press her down and be utterly merciless.
Looks like he went too easy on her last time.
Jennifer almost ran all the way back home, leaning against the door with a long sigh of relief.
Those words just now were in a moment of impulse. Now thinking back, what she said was too harsh. That person must be very angry.
Anyway, he already has a new lover, so he just completely sever ties. She will avoid him from now on.
Jennifer rushed into the bathroom to shower, changed into pajamas, then wearily collapsed onto the bed and turned on her phone.
As soon as it powered on, countless messages popped up.
All of this came from one person - her mother.
Jennifer casually looked through some of the messages, full of vulgar curses and vicious words. Helpless, she finally made the most shameless threat.
"Don't think you can get away from this by turning off your phone. If you don't give me the money tomorrow, I'll go to your school myself with a knife and commit suicide on the spot, blood splattering everywhere."
...All this is because you killed me.
"Even in death I will destroy you, letting the whole internet know what an unfilial wretch you are."
"When I die, your father won't get away either!"
She became more and more mentally deranged, bordering on madness.
Jennifer knew she was capable of doing such things.
Years ago, the first sum of money her mother demanded from her was like this too. Later, a huge gash was cut on her father's neck, blood gushing nonstop, with large bleeding wounds on her mother's neck too.
Blood kept pouring out, soaking the floor and clothes.
They almost lost their lives that time, and she almost got branded for killing her parents.
Jennifer had lived under this shadow all these years, unable to escape no matter how many times it happened - this compromise had shackled her for life.
She transferred out her remaining money, then typed a line.
"This is all I have left. No matter how much you threaten me now, there's nothing more I can give. You'll have to find another way for the rest."
A few minutes later, her mom received the money and finally quieted down.
Jennifer sent Daniel a message that she was home.
He seemed busy and didn't reply to her.
She turned off her phone, her whole body feeling extremely tired, as if the blood had been drained from her limbs.
In the past when forced to give her money, she would cry quietly under the covers.
But now, she didn't even have the strength to cry.
"Boom!"
