Chapter 8 - Lavender’s POV
I open my eyes after what felt like a few seconds. I expected to see Darius’ bathroom, but instead I’m looking down a back, a pair of legs and a pair of feet carrying me. I try not to make it too obvious that I woke up since I want to hear what they’re saying. “So what does he want with her? How does he know her? Who even is she?” The man whose carrying me asks.
“Look,” the other guy answers, “all I know is that we were supposed to pick her up. What he wants with her is none of our business.” The other man replies.
My eyes open wider.
Who is ‘he’?
Is it the guy with the glowing, blue eyes?
Am I finally going to get some true answers from him?
I look over to see the men’s faces.
Dumb mistake!
“Look who’s awake.” The man who is walking next to the man who’s carrying me start’s to talk. “Jerry, now that she’s awake you should let her walk herself. We might even be able to have some sort of conversation with her. You know, get to know her before she gets to see ‘him’.” He says while wiggling his eyebrows. I feel I’m being lifted even higher before being set down on the ground. Now that I’m standing I can take a proper look at the men who have taken me with them.
The one whose called Jerry winks at me. “No need to be scared of us. We ain’t gonna do you any harm.” They both show my their most innocent smile.
I smile back at them.
” We have someone who wants to speak to you.” Says the guy whose name I still don’t know. I nod as a reply. “What’s your name girl?” He asks after that. “My name is Jonny and that’s Jerry.”
“My name is Lavender.” I answer. It comes out way softer than I expected, but they still heard it. My name seems to spark something in them. They look at each other with a meaningful look in their eyes.
”That’s a wonderful name.” Jonny says.
“Yeah, it’s very unique.” Jerry adds.
I look at them strangely. “You are looking at each other like you know more than you’re letting on.” I say to them.
They look at each other again.
“Oh, it’s just that, you don’t hear a name like Lavender every day.” Jerry says casually.
Suddenly Jonny says: “You think it could be HER?” I look at them shocked.
WHAT DO THEY KNOW?
I start to panic. Where am I? Jerry and Jonny notice my shift of mood going from suspicious to panicking and they immediately try to make me more comfortable. “No need to worry Lavender. We’ve almost reached our master. He’ll tell you.” Jonny takes my pulse to make sure I don’t escape and continues our walk in silence. The only thing heard is the rustling of the trees and Jerry’s whistling. It’s a familiar tune. But I don’t know from where I recognize it.
We keep on walking till we reach an open spot in the forest with a huge campsite. We walk through the rows of tents. Everywhere around me, I see children playing, people chatting, people dancing, working and generally having fun. As I look straight ahead, I see a huge tent. It’s standing in the middle of all the other, smaller tents. Jerry runs to open the ten for us.
Inside stand a bunch of men around a table, they’re busy discussing something. It smells like freshly plucked herbs inside the tent. It’s nicely decorated as well. It looks like the person whose tent this is, really has good taste.
All the men around the table look at me as soon as we enter. One man in particular, stood really out to me. He had broad shoulders, dark blonde, shoulder length hair and green hair. He looked like one of those classic knights on a white horse in those fairy tales. He was at least 40 centimetres taller than me (and probably also quite a few years older). He looks at me sternly, clearly not happy to be interrupted. But as soon as he recognises me, his eyes soften up. He approaches me with a huge smile on his face and his arms open. “Hey, Lavender! I haven’t seen you in a very long time.” He says while he takes me in a warm embrace. His hug is firm, but it doesn’t hurt. I have to admit, it’s not as comfortable as Darius’ embrace. This man’s hugs do feel very familiar for some reason. Like I have known him for years.
The man pulls back. “You’re not hugging me back. This is not like you at all. Are you alright? What’s happened?” he asks me concerned. His sincerity can clearly be heard through his voice. “I’m sorry,” I say, “But I’ve lost my memories a few days ago. I don’t remember anything.” He looks at me with pity in his eyes. “Live’s really not being fair to you, is it?” he mumbles under his breath. I don’t think I’m supposed to hear it, but I do anyway. “From the way you hugged me, I understand that we used to be good friends.” I say while looking at my feet. I feel slightly ashamed about my memory loss. Just the look of disappointment on his face makes me want to sink through the ground. “No it’s okay. It’s not your fault.” He says while lifting my chin up. “My name is Lance.”
”That name fit’s you well.” I say. After I say that, a sad look overshadows his beautiful features. I tilt my head a little bit in a questioning manner. He seems to understand my question. “You said that the first time we met as well. I hope you get your memories back.” He says.
“Since you’ve lost your memories, I might have to tell you some things, mak e you catch up with what’s happening.” I nod. Finally! I’m getting some answers.
“The field we’re standing on right now is called the ‘Green Dew Field’, because the grass on this field never changes color. It is always this exact shade of green. Even in the winter. Even though, it’s not really visible under the layer of snow that’ll cover the grass in that time of the year.” He says while putting one of his muscled arms around my shoulders, taking me outside with him. “My men and I set up camp here yesterday. After you left, we really started to notice the impact your good spirit has had on all of us and we decided to continue your rebellion against queen Constance for you.”
“Who’s queen Constance.” I ask him.
Lance looks at me with a questioning expression on his face. After a few seconds he seems to remember me talking about me losing all of my memories and starts to explain. “I don’t think it’s my duty to tell you your entire biography, but I’ll tell you about the queen, your rebellion and what went on after you left us.” I nod in understanding. It does make me really curios about my past. This man seems to pity me a lot. He knows what my life was like before waking up without my memories. He knows what I’ve been through.
“So, queen Constance is queen of this dimension. She used to treat you and a lot of all the people in this camp in an inhumane way. Which is why you decided to stand up for every human who was too scared to speak themselves. You were the first person to ever make your voice and your opinions heard and people admired that a lot. You got a lot of followers. People who were willing to follow you to the end of the earth. But the queen let one of her demons loose to try and stop you. It chased you down through an invisible portal. After that, we didn’t hear about you until now. Like I said before: my men and I decided to continue your rebellion and swore on everything that is us dear to protect the weak and lead them to a better tomorrow. I send Jerry and Jonny out to look for you this morning and to my surprise, they actually found you. And now, here we are.” I listen to the story he’s telling me and try to suck up as much of it as possible.
It becomes quiet for a few minutes as we walk up one of the hills surrounding the Green Dew Field. We sit down and I ask him: “You were talking about dimensions? What’s that?”
“Right,” Lance says, “You have never intentionally travelled through dimensions. Well, neither have I, but I can tell you what I know.” He says. I just nod as we both sit down, looking at the tent camp underneath us. It looks even more peaceful from further away. After having admired the view for a good minute, Lance starts to explain: “So, a dimension is basically a copy of one world. There are 6 different dimensions. 5 of them being a copy of the first ever, original world. Through time, the dimensions started to differentiate from each other. Each becoming a bit more unique. Nowadays, the only thing all the dimensions have in common is that homo-sapiens live on them. But for example on earth, homo-sapiens don’t have magic anymore, here on Costrea they do. Well some of them, me for example, I don’t have magic, but you do. Names of the dimensions are:
1. earth (where humans live),
2. Costrea (which is where we are now. This dimension is the has most diverse range of homo-sapiens)
3. Aplium (which is where werewolves live, even though some of them have moved to earth),
4. Swaedan (which is where Ice elves live),
5. Athana (which is the dimension of mythology).
But nobody knows the name of the last dimension. Now that I’ve told you all of this, would you mind explaining what happened to you the last couple of days?”
I start to talk about the wolf with the silver eyes who saved my life, my stay at the hospital and of course, Darius and his sister and friend. All the time I’m talking, Lance just sits there and listens to my story. We don’t even notice how the sun slowly starts to go down until it’s almost completely under. Lance stands up and offers me his hand. I take it and we walk back to tent we first met.
When we arrive Lance shows me to a shielded part of the tent. “I had a feeling you would join us again later. So I let my men set this up for you. Inside are some of the belongings you left behind and of course some clothes. I’ll see you in the morning.” He says while lifting up the bottom of the curtain which is hanging in front of the opening to my private part of the tent. He bows dramatically to me as I walk inside. That makes me giggle. Lance closes the curtain again after I passed through the opening and walks of. I take some time to admire my surroundings. I don’t recognise any of it. But Lance said it’s mine and I trust him. I change into something that looks like a nightgown and lay down on the matrass that was put in the right corner of the room.
Before I know it, I start to drift off to a peaceful dreamless sleep.
Darius’ POV
I open my eyes. Scanning my surroundings, I notice that it looks nothing like my bathroom. WHAT THE HELL! As I stand there, trying to navigate myself, my werewolf hearing picks up talking. It’s far away and I have no idea what’s being said, but there are a lot of people nearby. That’s for sure.
I hope they didn’t harm Lavender.
I start to run towards the sounds. And after a few minutes of walking, I finally reach the edge of the forest and what I see, shocks me. Lavender is sitting a few meters away from me, next to prince f*cking charming. Now I understand why she left me. This guy was waiting for her here. Prince charming stands up and offers my mate his hand. She gladly takes it. That small gesture of connection between the two makes my blood boil. I just want to jump out of the shadows, pull Lavender away from prince charming and take her back home. But I don’t do that. It’ll probably make her hate me more. I don’t think I could handle her rejecting me straight to my face.
I see how prince charming puts an arm around her shoulder (just like I used to do) and how he leads her down the hill to a big campsite. The way she willingly go’s with him makes me really jealous. I am supposed to be the only man who get’s to touch her. I can feel how my wolf agrees with me. ‘Let me out!’ He mindlinks me. ‘I’ll rip him to shreds and then we can be with her’.
‘I know you want to. So do I. But have you seen the way she looks at him. She’s never looked at us that way. She trusts him. It took him a few hours to make her trust him, while we, her soulmate, have had multiple days and she still hasn’t looked at us like that. Maybe it’s for the best like this. Maybe she will be happier this way’. I can hear my wolf sigh. He knows I’m right. I can almost see him laying his head down on his paws in disappointment. ‘but we’re gonna give up on her like that. I want to see her at least one more time.’ He says suddenly. I nod. I too want to see her one last time.
Using my wolf’s sense of smell, I follow my mate’s distinctive fresh-herb-like-smell to the biggest tent in the middle. Of course, prince charming will make sure his princess gets everything she deserves.
I enter the tent and it’s actually pretty nicely decorated. It makes me hate him even more. He doesn’t just have a good taste in woman.
“You.Must.Be.The Darius guy I’ve heard so much about. How is your sister?” I turn around and he’s standing right behind me. Prince charming is taller than I thought. He must be about 10 centimetres taller than me. Him knowing about my existence doesn’t sit right with me for some reason.
“How do you know my name?” I ask.
“Lavender told me.” He answers.
“Of course she did. She’s the only one here that knows.” I say. Letting a bit more of my annoyance hearable in my voice.
“My name is Lance.” He says while sending his perfect smile my way.
“Of course it would be.” I say while rolling my eyes.
“I’m sorry. I’ve never talked to you in person. If you’re holding anything against me, please just let me know.” He tries.
“Why would I? You took my happiness away from me, my sunshine, my reason to live!” I shout. I immediately cover my mouth. I didn’t mean for that to come out. It just drives me nuts, how Lance doesn’t just look perfect, he also acts perfect.
Lance looks at me, at a loss for words. Then after a few minutes he curiously asks me: “How did you find our camp?”
I cross my arms and say with an irritated tone: “I heard you talking. It’s not that hard to find such a big place like this. Especially not when you all are being so d*nm loud.”
Lance get’s an understanding look in his eyes as soon as you finish your last sentence. “So, if I understand everything you just said correctly, you are a werewolf.”
I look at him with a look of disbelief on my face. “How did you know?” I ask
“Well, in my team, we have a magician who has covered this field with a spell. So if you have bad intentions or nothing at all to do with any of the people in this cam you’ll never find it. But you did. Which means that you are connected to someone here. But the place where the portal spits you out is actually quite far away from this camp. So the only way you could have heard us talk is if you had superior hearing and only werewolves have hearing as sensitive as yours.”
While he’s explaining his thoughts, I look at him in astonishment. This must be one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. When he’s done explaining he asks me: “So, Lavender. She means a lot to you doesn’t she?”
All I can do at this point is nod. I have never seen a guy so well put together. “Mate?” He asks. I shake my head.
That guy has stolen your mate Darius, get it together. I shake my head to bring me back to reality. Ones that’s done I ask him: “how did you know?”
He shrugs and says: “A mate is everything for a werewolf. And you just described her as your only reason to live.”
I had honestly already forgotten I had said that to him. I should be a bit more careful with what I say to strangers. Lance’s next statement makes me very relieved tough. He says: “I didn’t try to steal her from you. We were good friends before she lost her memories. I was just telling her what she had missed out on the last couple of days. Do you want to know as well?” Him asking me such things really makes me admire him. He is willing to tell me about part of Lavender’s history to try to build some trust with me. I really respect that. I just nod and he starts to tell me about Lavender’s rebellion against queen Constance and her disappearance through an invisible portal. He even starts telling me the dimension story he said he told you as well. It is a lot to take in all at ones. But I’m really trying to remember all Lance is saying. I might come handy one day. Before we realise it’s already the middle of the night.
Lance leads me to one of the shielded ‘guest rooms’ in the big tent. But before he leaves me I ask him: “Lance. My mate where is she sleeping? I would like to see her one more time before I go to bed.” Lance nods in understanding and points at her sleeping quarters. Right before he leaves he says. “Be good to her. I’m watching you.” That statement makes me smile. He’s actually quite a funny guy. I take a look around my own sleeping quarters. It’s really tidy. The bed is not made yet, so I decide to make my bed first and then to visit Lavender. I can’t wait to see her up close again!
After I’ve made my bed I sneak out of my room into the direction Lance pointed before he left. I use my wolf’s sense of hearing and smell to find out directly where she is. Turns out, she was exactly where lance said she would be. I sneak into her room. She’s already sound asleep, looking beautiful as ever. She looks so pure, just lying there. I softly cup her cheek and whisper. “I’ll make you love me. I promise I will be the best mate I can be to you. Just wait for me.” I kiss her on her forehead. The sparks I feel when my lips come in contact with her forehead, immediately ignite a fire within me. ‘Do it again!’ My wolf mindlinks. I know it’s not smart to do it again. I have studied her reactions to physical contact with me. I know she feels the sparks. But it just felt so good finally kiss her. With just a little bit more encouragement from my wolf I lean in again. This time I aim for her nose. When I lean back she mumbles my name. That shocks me.
Does she know it’s me?
Is she awake?
Has she heard me talking to Lance?
I stand there like a rock, hoping she won’t notice me when she wakes up. But she doesn’t so I just leave her alone. I walk back to my own sleeping quarters with the widest, happiest grin on my face ever.
I lay down on my matrass and cover myself with the blanket.
My last thoughts before I close my eyes are:
Just you wait, Lavender. I will win your heart.
After having thought that I close my eyes and fall asleep, dreaming of a beautiful future with my mate.
