Chapter 3 – Lavender’s POV
After leaving his office, not knowing what else to do, I decide to explore the enormous house. The only places I have seen so far are the bedroom I’ve been staying in, the living room and Darius’ office. As I walk up a flight of stairs, to the floor my bedroom is on, I notice a big door at the end of that hallway.
That door sparked my interest for some reason. I can feel a strong pulling feeling towards the door. As if something or someone wanted me to take a look inside the room behind the door.
Excited, but also a bit nervous, I take the doorknob in my hand. The steel feels cold in my hand. But the door opens smoothly and quietly as I push the door open.
All I see when I walk inside, are books. There must be around a thousand or more books in all the chests that line the walls of the library.
The room is decorated in a very modern style, fitting the rest of the house perfectly. The flat roof is made out of glass, making a few really big squares of daylight light up the room.
I let my fingers glide across a stack of books, reading the titles till I find one that is very familiar.
It’s the book about werewolves. The book I read when I first got here. How did it get here? I don’t remember anyone coming to collect the books or giving it to someone.
I let those thoughts slide as soon as I start to feel the strong pull again that brought me to the library. It pulls me towards the back of the room, encouraging me to climb up one of the stairs to a chest with even more books on it.
Unlike the rest of the books, these look old and dusty, like no one over reads them. The title’s are written in a language that looks like Greek or Latin. But when I look closer, it becomes apparent that it’s not.
As I scan the titles, one of the books really stands out to me. It’s much smaller and thinner than all the other books and has no title on the cover.
I take it back with me to my bedroom, since Darius said I could treat this home as my own.
I put the book in the nightstand, next to the bed and decide to continue exploring the house till lunch.
There are two more bedrooms on the floor of my bedroom and the two levelled library. One of them is closed so that must be Killian’s bedroom.
One floor down is Darius’ office and a locked room, which I guess is his bedroom with, just like my bedroom, a bathroom attached to it. There is also another bedroom on this floor. The door of this bedroom, on the contrary, is open.
The room is a huge mess, and from what I can see, nicely decorated. This must be Haleigh’s room.
And on the bottom floor are the living room, the kitchen and the dining room.
As I enter the dining room, I see Haleigh already sitting at the glass dining table. As soon as she notices me, she scoots one of the stools next to her back and pats for me to sit down.
“Hey, you’re perfectly on time. Killian just left to get Darius, so we can have lunch together.” She says.
After that she grabs her phone out and starts scrolling through some old photos. I look through the window on the opposite side of the table. The view is just as beautiful as the view from my window. The sun is on it’s highest point right now, making everything outside look like it’s glowing. Right now there is no cloud to be found in the sky and the sky itself looks extra blue from here.
While zoning out, I can hear the door on my left open, which also brings my attention back to reality and look at the door.
I can see Killian entering with Darius behind him. Darius is carrying a plate with sandwiches which they must have gone to get on their way to the dining room.
Everybody happily tucks into the lunch prepared by the chefs. Haleigh also shows me some baby photos from Darius, Killian and herself.
They were all extremely adorable. Especially Darius in one of the pictures where he is playing in the garden with Killian.
Haleigh decides to take me to take me to town to shop for more clothes and Darius insisted on tagging along, even though Haleigh kept pleading with him not to.
I haven’t known them for very long. But every part of their characters that I’ve seen so far has been poles apart.
After lunch, Haleigh almost literally pulls me to the car with Darius behind us. She pushes me in the backseat and points for her brother to get behind the steering wheel. She plops down beside me and motions for me to buckle my seatbelt while fastening her own.
While Darius is driving, she begins to talk to me about all the plans she has for my outfits. Not being particularly interested in fashion, I find myself staring out the front window and zoning out again. From the corner of my eyes I can see Darius looking at me through the rear view mirror. I still don’t know his intentions with me, but I do know that his eyes on me give me a sense of security. Why that is exactly, I don’t know.
Darius stops the car in front of an old looking building in the town I could see from my window.
Haleigh squeals: “Yay, I’ve always wanted to go shopping with my best friend! And now I finally can. I think we’ll be in here for quite a long time.”
I can feel a pair of eyes on me as I step outside the car. As I look around to find the eyes, I find an old lady looking at me through the window of the store Haleigh is running towards. The lady’s eyes on me give me an unsettling feeling. It’s as if she’s trying to bore right through me with her eyes.
WAIT! I swear I just saw…
How is that possible?
A few seconds after staring back into the old woman’s eyes, I saw her eyes turn yellow. I blinked a few times to find that her eyes already changed back.
I don’t know if you noticed this, but if you see something for a split second and then ever see it again, you start questioning yourself if you even really saw it.
That is exactly what happened to me. And so I just followed Haleigh into the store.
Now I’m standing in one of the fitting rooms. Well for as far as there is room for me to fit in the small booth with all the clothes that Haleigh fitted in here with me. Moving is almost impossible but necessary if I want to change clothes.
After about four and a half hours of fitting clothes, showing them off and Haleigh gasping and Darius just looking at me, we are finally done. Darius is now carrying the pile of clothes Haleigh decided she wanted to buy for me and her.
I forgot to mention that. She also bought a bunch of clothes.
Right when we where about to leave the store the lady who was looking at me through the shopwindow, comes up to me and pushes something in my hand while whispering in my ear: “Don’t show her.” This confuses me, but before I can ask any questions, she walks off again. When I look over to Haleigh and her brother, I notice that they didn’t even notice me being held back and try to keep up with them as fast as I can, walking the last few meters to the car together.
