I stood there, frozen. My heart pounded so loud it was all I could hear at first. Jason’s words echoed in my head ver and over again like someone had taken my worst secret and screamed it through a megaphone. My throat felt tight. My fingers curled slowly at my sides as I tried to breathe, but it was like the air wasn’t coming in fast enough.
He said it like it was nothing. Just a casual question. Is it true you have mental issues? Do you really have nightmares? How could he know that? No one was supposed to know, no one except Lily. Even she looked shocked, like someone had ripped the floor out from under her.
