I felt a strong ache hearing her say that I was her friend. Admitting my feelings at a time like this wasn’t really good, but I’m making all the excuses at this point. We’ve known each other for years, and I was already certain about my feelings for her in the first months. She might think otherwise, but Zeke was one of the strongest women I know. She has been through a lot, and yet she faces things head on. Zeke might not realize that, but she was charming that way.
If only I had been courageous enough to tell her my feelings, then maybe it could have been me and not August. It was my biggest regret that I let that jerk ruin her smile.
