"No. This isn't possible." Kabeer shook his head. He steadied himself against the wall as his legs wobbled underneath him.
"This is all your fault, Kabeer." Safiya said. "You've brought calamity upon this house. First it was Noor, now Aisha. I am leaving, otherwise I might be the next victim."
Kabeer stared at Aisha's lifeless body, bile rising to his throat. Even in death, she looked afraid. The rope which had been used to tie her up the previous night now lay severed beside her, like a giant snake curled up beside it's master.
"How did this happen?" Kabeer said in a voice which sounded nothing like his own.
"I don't know." Safiya said. "Ummayma just came into my room earlier to bring my food when we heard her scream. We came down and found her like this."
