CHAPTER FIVE

I walked into my office,my heels clinking softly against the tiled floors. I got a message from my subordinate that I had a guest waiting for me at the office. My mind went to the cab driver and I opened my bag to bring out my purse. “Sorry sir, I have put you so much stress, take this,it's more than the fee,you can k…” My voice trailed off as I looked up and saw it wasn't the cab driver but the strange man I met at the ball. “I am not him,but you did put me through a lot of stress Lyanna.” He muttered and grinned from ear to ear. “For the last time sir,my name is Marianne Thompson.” I said and gritted my teeth. Just the sight of him already makes me angry and he just has to top it all with that crazed smile of his. “Is that what they asked you to say?” He asked and crossed his legs. “ Who asked me to say?” I retorted. “ The people who took care of you. Lyanna, you don't have to lie to me,it's me Cassian ... .your childhood friend.” He said. “Sir,I think you are mistaken me for someone else,I'm Maria and I do not recall any childhood with you.” I spat and walked towards my seat. I sat down and placed my hands on the table and gave him a hard glare. “Okay, maybe you're angry about a lot of things,I in I most have failed you,I didn't know what happened,I had to leave the country all of a sudden…..I'm sorry Anna.”He apologized tenderly “Like I said and will continue saying,I am Maria not Lyanna.” I muttered and rolled my eyes. “Okay then.” He said and walked towards the door. “But I don't think L.D would like to see us this way.” That name flashed across my mind for a minute and I paused. “What did you say?” I asked and creased my brows. “L.D wouldn't like the fact that we are apart like this?” He snickered. “Who is this L.D.” I asked with knitted brows. “Your father,Luke Dorva, founder of the Elixir of Life experiment and father of the year I must say.” He snickered. “What do you mean?” I asked again and stood up clenching my fists. “You see after that masked ball,I made my findings and investigations and you are Lyanna Dorva, but there's just one teeny weeny mistake or fault I would say.” He said, pinching the tip of his index finger. “ You were experimented on,had your memory wiped and your father was in support of it.” He added. A lump formed in my throat,I tried forming words but nothing was coming out,I was lost,my eyes suddenly felt heavy and tired. I sank back into my chair and rubbed my throbbing head. “Even after his death,he gave you to the Factions, they used you, brainwashed you, continued the experiment from where he stopped. I'm still always asking myself why he was so invested in that experiment.” He mumbled and turned to go. “ Wait, don't go yet…I need your help.” I asked and stretched the file forward. “With what,my dear Anna.” He said grinning from ear to ear. “I was given a file,I only read the first page because it was written in English, the other parts were written in Italian.” I said. He grabbed the file and flipped through it. "Just the same as you were younger, you hated Italian and now that same language might just be a clue to find out what happened to you years ago." Cassian chuckled. "Are you going to help me or not?" I asked with a sarcastic tone. His brows knitted and his pupils dilated. “What is wrong?” I asked and stood up to check him. “No, I'm fine.” He replied almost immediately. I knew something was wrong. “No you're not,you had this look of fear on your face, like you read something bad.” I replied and walked towards him. “Oh that…it says someone funded the experiment even after your dad's death, the initials say M.C.” He said and closed the file. Cassian POV The moment I flipped the book file open,I saw it. My father's initial M.C was written there. I was too stunned to speak or even move,I just stared at the file with my dilated pupils. “What is wrong?” Lyanna asked with worry written all over her face. “No, I'm fine.” I lied,I wasn't fine, how come my father funded the experiment even after the death of her father. “No you're not,you have this look of fear on your face like you just read something bad.” She retorted but calmly. Oh how much I have missed her worried tone. “Oh that ... .it says someone funded the experiment after your fathers death…the initials say M.C.” I said and closed the file. I hated the fact that I couldn't tell her,who that was. I wanted to,she must have suffered a lot,but for the long period of time,I have known Lyanna, she is quick tempered. She wouldn't even want to listen to me or hear a word I have to say and it would ruin a relationship that I have plans of building for us. I wanted to go home and confront my dad about this,I needed to be sure someone wasn't framing my dad. But as I walked out of the office after bading her good bye,my mind couldn't stop but wonder. ‘Why did my dad do it?’ ‘Did he know she was the lab rat?’ I shook my head in defiance, ‘No my father mustn't have known she was the lab rat,he wouldn't do anything to hurt her,nor would he.’ I pressed the unlock button on the remote car key. I slipped into my car and zoomed off.
