“I’m ready to let you in.” Her words are soft and she is laying herself bare and vulnerable to me. Something she has never done and I’m coming to realize is hard for her. I can see her searching my face with regret starting to flood her eyes.
I act and pull her into my chest running my hand down her back soothing her. I rest my cheek on top of her head and take in her scent. She snuggles into my chest taking in all of mine as I do with her.
“You have no idea how happy that makes me.” I tell her and she scoffs escaping my arms.
“You say that now but I promise you won’t like what you see.” With that she pulls away from me and hooks her arm with mine. Marking the end of the conversation. When we begin heading down the stairs I see Aleric at the bottom waiting for us.
