Kylie’s POV
There I was at the back seat. I never realized how much Liam despised me. Of course, his queen was right in front of him, the passenger princess, while I was just there.
Right after we came down from the car, he held her hand and made a gesture to help her out of the car, whereas I had to do everything myself — but I always did for five years.
“I’ll have a plate of seafood and a bowl of hot chicken soup, just that, to go.”
Liam had already ordered a plate for himself and Aurora. I always felt invisible to him.
“Oh, Liam, you forgot to order for your wife. So sad.”
“She will figure it out herself. She always does. Besides, she’s the one that does the work around the house.”
Liam couldn’t even show any sign of sympathy towards his wife — oh, I mean his ex-wife.
And there she came, the only woman who saw my value amongst the Hills.
Mrs. Leanna Hill.
“How are you, sweetie? I hope Liam is treating you well, as he should.”
It made me sad to realize that I was going to leave the one person who actually saw value in me.
“Mrs. Hill, I’m getting a divorce from your son. This marriage doesn’t seem like what it is supposed to be. I have to do this for my own safety. I love your son, but Liam doesn’t love me.”
“I won’t change your mind, my daughter. Besides, I’ve been seeing how Liam has been behaving around that girl. I don’t know how she got her way into my son’s heart, but I support your decision.”
It was time to finally cut the cake, and Mrs. Hill had already gone to prepare it before cutting.
“Dinner is served!”
The waiter said, holding our food in his hands. Before I knew it, Liam’s bowl of steaming hot soup was about to pour on his suit. I reached out to prevent it from spilling on him. Immediately, I tried to redirect the bowl with my good arm, and the hot soup poured on my fractured arm. I cried out in so much pain that everyone in the restaurant started seeking help.
“Kylie, are you okay?” Liam said, running towards my seat. I never realized that he still had a little bit of care for me in him.
Right before he could even hold my arm, Aurora called out, screaming again, claiming that a bit of the soup touched her arm.
“Come on, Liam! Aurora is in pain, help!”
Terra said, giving me the same haughty eyes again.
“Are you okay? Where did it hit you?”
I should have known — to Liam, Aurora always came first. He offered to take her to the hospital, and at that point, I could hear people murmuring about how he picked her over his wife.
I went through excruciating pain, so much that the staff had to call an ambulance.
And there I was, in one of the least rooms in the hospital. At least that was what I could afford.
“Miss Kylie, you are lucky you made it to the hospital early enough. Any minute wasted would have required your arm to be amputated.”
I could see the medical report files stacked near her, and there it was — Aurora’s file. Liam had booked the best room in the hospital for her. Why did I bother? He would never show a hint of care for me again.
“Okay, Miss, I will be moving you to Ward 211 for an X-ray,” the nurse said.
Ward 211 wasn’t just an ordinary room; it was one of the best rooms in the hospital.
“Nurse, I don’t have enough money to pay for this ward.”
“Someone booked the room for you, miss.”
It could definitely not be Liam.
“Please, can I know this person?”
“With time, you will know,” she smirked, leaving me in awe.
I could hear chuckles from the next room — it was Liam’s voice. Aurora was about to be discharged. How stupid of me to think that Liam would come looking for me.
The ambulance had to take me back home. On second thought, I preferred the hospital to my home.
And there he was. My eyes couldn’t see enough — he was preparing lunch for her. Liam had never done this for anyone, not even his mum. I guess love is an understatement when it comes to Aurora.
“Oh… Kylie, you’re back. You know I wanted to come see you in the hospital, but… Aurora was in so much pain, I couldn’t leave her.”
Coming from the same person I heard laughing and dancing to music with Aurora in the ward room.
“Liam… my hand almost got amputated because I was trying to save you, and all this is about is Aurora.”
“Stop overreacting. I mean, you get burns every day cooking for me. What makes this one different?”
I was so pathetic to think that he would choose me over Aurora. She was right there, relaxing on the couch.
“Hey, Kylie.”
I felt his hands on my shoulders.
“I’m sorry, and I promise that the next time you get hurt, I will take you to the hospital.”
For a moment, I thought he still had a little bit of care for me. But every time I thought so, he always proved otherwise.
A few more days and I will no longer be the Aurora they know.
