Chapter 8

3503 Words

Darcy sat down at a picnic table on campus after her first class of the day and pulled out a protein bar from her overstuffed backpack. The wrapper crinkling as she opened it and folded it back, she stared soberly at the chocolate and peanut butter bar in her hands. She hoped it was good. If not, she had just wasted a couple dollars on crap. Hesitantly, she brought it up to her nose, sniffed it gingerly, decided it smelled okay, and took a small bite. It wasn’t too bad, she thought, taking a larger bite. She had definitely had worse. Turning to her backpack again, she pulled out her phone to check how much time she had before her next class. Good, she thought bitterly. She wouldn’t have to wait too much longer. Only about 15 minutes left until it began and she was just outside the door.
