THE SECOND CHANCE TO CORRECT ALL WRONGS

2035 Words
Ella gasped for air as the room spun around her. She looked around the place she was in as she had no idea of how she got there. The last thing she remembered was the cold floor, and the sound of her heartbeat slowing down as those monsters decided to let her die. But now, she was sitting at a dinner table and still alive. Her eyes glanced around the whole restaurant that was filled with people. She was trying to understand what was happening. The restaurant was elegant, lit by soft candlelight, and filled with the quiet hum of conversation. And then her eye landed on Lance who sat across from her, smiling brightly. Next to him were his parents and sisters, all looking at her warmly. Ella’s heart pounded in her chest as she could not believe what she was seeing. "How is this possible? I was dying… I know I was dying," she thought, checking herself over. Lance slowly stood up from his chair, looking nervous. He walked around the table, towards Ella who was looking at him in shock. Fear gripped Ella as she remembered everything that he had done and then she wanted to lunge at him. But before she could react, Lance dropped to one knee, pulling a small velvet box from his pocket. The restaurant grew quiet as everyone turned to watch. “Ella,” Lance began, his vice was calm and filled with love, “I love you more than anything in this world. Will you marry me?” Ella stared at him in shock with her mind reeling. “This can’t be real… This already happened…” She shook her head, remembering this night vividly—the night Lance proposed to her in April 26th, 2019. The night she had said yes and sealed her fate. But now, flashes of how she died flooded her head as she remembered Lance, standing over her as she bled, his cruel words and the coldness in his eyes. She also remembered Briselle and her mother plotting her death. The pain of that betrayal surged through her, and anger rose in her chest. Lance still remained on one knee with his smile faltering as he waited for her answer. His family looked at Ella, especially Laura as they were all eagerly waiting for her to say ‘yes’. The other diners, who were also present there, took out their phones to capture the beautiful moment. Ella’s grip tightened on the wine glass she was holding, her knuckles turning white as she looked at Lance's disgusting face. She had no Idea of what was happening or where she was but seeing Lance on his knees, asking her to marry her, makes her burned with rage. The glass trembled in her hand as rage and disbelief warred within her. Without thinking, Ella picked up the wine glass and flung the wine in his face. The liquid splashed across his shocked expression, and the restaurant gasped. But Ella wasn’t done. She raised the now-empty glass and smashed it against Lance’s head with all the strength she had. The glass shattered on Lance's head, and he fell back to the ground, clutching his head in pain. The room was now filled with chaos as Lance's family rushed to help him. But Ella didn’t care. She dropped the broken glass and fled the restaurant. She didn’t stop running until she was far away, her breath coming in ragged gasps, her mind spinning with confusion. “What is happening?” she thought desperately. “How am I alive?” Wandering around the LA street with her arms wrapped around herself as she tried to brush off the cold. Everything felt wrong, like a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from. She had no idea where she was going or what she was supposed to do. Suddenly, a hand touched her shoulder, and she flinched in fear. Only for her to turn around and see him. Her heart skipped a beat when she recognized the man standing in front of her—it was Kayden Bane, her best friend’s twin brother. Kayden, Linda Bane (his twin sister), and Ella had known each other since college. It was through Ella that Briselle had even been able to get close to Kayden. Kayden looked at her weirdly, arching his brow. Ella blinked her eyes continuously, she could not believe he was standing right in front of her. Kayden hasn't been in LA since 2019. He left around the time Ella got married to Lance. “Kayden? What is he doing here?” she thought. Ella hadn’t seen him in years, and yet here he was, looking at her with concern. Or was it? No, the expression on his face wasn’t one of care—Kayden was known as cold and heartless. “Are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” “I… I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t understand… I was just… I was just…” Ella stuttered, not even knowing what to say. Kayden noticed that she didn’t seem in her right mind. His eye trailed down to her feet and he noticed that she was only wearing one shoe. Ella already lost her left leg shoe when she was running. Kayden slowly turned around and quickly texted Linda, “Is your friend okay?” “No, she’s crazy,” Linda replied sarcastically, but Kayden took it seriously, thinking Ella was truly losing her mind. Turning back to her, Kayden spoke softly, “Hey, it’s okay. Let’s get you out of here, alright? You’re not in a good state.” He gently guided her to his car, and Ella followed numbly, her mind still trying to process the impossible. As they drove, she couldn’t help but notice how familiar everything looked—the streets, the buildings. Ella bit her lip, not sure if Kayden would answer her questions but she decided to try her luck. “Please, can you tell me what year it is?” Kayden looked at her, puzzled by the question. It took a while before he replied her and she already lost hope that he would answer her questions but to her surprise, he responded. “It’s 2019?” Ella’s heart skipped a beat as she heard that. “What? 2019!? That’s impossible…” she screamed, and Kayden flinched in fear. Shaking her head in disbelief, she said, “I… I died. I was in 2024… I was dying…” Kayden frowned, trying to understand what she was saying. “Her condition must really be serious,” he muttered. How is this possible? Am I really back in time? Suddenly, she remembered something—this was the year Lance had proposed to her. The proposal had just happened. But this time, she had smashed the glass on his head. Am I being given another chance? Is this perhaps a new life? Was my last prayer answered? Ella kept asking herself different questions but everything still felt unreal to her. Turning to Kayden. “Can you please pinch me? I need to know if this is real.” Kayden agreed and gently pinched her arm. Ella flinched at the sharp pain and her eyes widening as she could not believe she really felt the pain. It was real. She was really here, back in 2019, before everything went wrong. Ella took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “I… I think I’ve been given another chance.” “What?” “I think I've been given another chance!” Ella said, and then jumped on Kayden, hugging him in happiness. Kayden froze on the spot, his breath seized. His eyes widened in surprise and his heart raced at the way Ella had hugged him. “We are already at the Mayfair mansion,” Carlos, Kayden’s secretary, interrupted. Ella quickly pulled away from the hug and jumped out of the car while Kayden stayed in the same position, still shocked, his heart racing. “Are you alright?” Carlos asked, and Kayden shook his head. As Ella walked to her front door, tears filled her eyes. She was home. She wasn’t crying because she was home, but because she was going to see someone she had lost. When she entered and saw her father sitting there, alive, tears finally spilled over. She couldn’t hold them back any longer. Ella rushed to him and hugged him tightly. “Dad…” she whispered, her voice choked with sobs. “I can’t believe I’m seeing you again…” Magnus, her father, looked confused at her words since they had seen each other just this morning. But Magnus thought Ella was acting like that because of what she had done. He pulled away from their hug. “What exactly were you thinking?" Magnus yelled, his voice echoing through the room. "Why would you do something like that? Smashing a glass on Lance’s head in public, you must have definitely lost your mind?" Before Ella could respond, Camile descended the stairs, walking closer to them. "Calm down, dear," she said in a soft voice, placing her hand on Magnus’s arm. "I’m sure Ella must have her reasons." Turning to Ella, “ Right, Ella?” Hearing Camille’s voice made Ella’s blood boil. This was the same woman who had played a part in her death and now stood before her, pretending to care. Ella’s fists clenched at her sides as she fought the urge to lash out, to scream at Camille. But she held back, forcing herself to stay calm. Ella didn't reply her but just turned away. "Reasons?" Magnus scoffed, looking back at Ella. "Even if she had any stupid reasons, that was not the way to handle it. I’m not blaming you for your actions, as I don't like him in the first place, but what you did was… unacceptable, especially in public." Ella’s heart ached at his words. Her father had never liked Lance. She remembered the arguments they had when Lance proposed to her, and she agreed back then. She remembered how her father had tried to convince her not to go through with it, how he had seen something in Lance that she had been blind to. The memory brought tears to Ella's eyes, as she wished that she had listened to him back then. "I'm very sorry, Dad," she whispered. Ella bit her lower lip in regret and then her eyes darted to Camile, who was watching her with a too-sweet smile. Seeing her like that, the anger inside her flared up again. Camile stepped closer and tried to touch Ella’s arm. "It’s okay, sweetheart.” Ella jerked away from Camile’s touch as if it burned her. The false concern in Camile’s voice made her sick to her stomach. "I’m fine," Ella snapped, her voice cold. "I just need to rest." Magnus frowned. "Ella—" "Goodnight," Ella cut him off, turning on her heel and heading up the stairs to her room. As she walked away, her father's eyes trailed after her as he was filled with worry and confusion. He didn’t understand why she had acted the way she did. He had no idea what she had been through or what she had seen and experienced. Ella entered her room, closing the door behind her with a soft click. She walked over to the mirror and had her seat. Staring at her reflection, her finger gently caresses her skin. She looked the same, but much younger. She placed a hand on her stomach, and her thoughts drifted to the child she had lost, the one she wasn't even given the chance to hold in her arm. Tears welled up in her eyes as she remembered the pain, the grief of losing her baby. " I will make them pay. I will make them bleed for the pain they have caused me. They will regret every single thing and beg for mercy at my feet" she whispered to her reflection, her voice shaking with emotion. "I won’t make the same mistakes. I’ll make them suffer… all of them." By the time I’m done with them, they won't know what hit them.
