I refused to give my mother that kind of satisfaction. I also refused to bring Levi into their sphere, just so that they could ruin him the same way they had ruined me.
Thus, I stormed out of the pack house, leaving Levi with Christine because I refused to use my child as a prop, and headed for the edge of the woods. For a second, I lingered on the outskirts, staring into the dark abyss in front of me.
