She gazed toward the window. “The building downtown is heavily guarded—impenetrable. You’ll need to come up with a solid plan in order to get inside the wards. Security will be doubled if not tripled for the solstice event.”
She turned her attention back to us. “I’m glad that none of you trust me. If you did, I would have absolutely no faith in your abilities to take on 5th Circle. With that said, I ask that you give me a chance to prove my worth and my loyalty. Not to Penumbra Syndicate, but to Elara. Whatever is in her best interests is where I direct my intentions and actions.”
Heat burned the back of my eyes and I blinked away the sensation. Was Claire really that devoted to me? Why and how had I earned that from her? I certainly didn’t hold her in the same regard.
