I said no.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t.”
I sidestepped, putting a couch between us in the library where Lysander had found me. Guilt wrapped around my heart at the look on Lysander’s face. I didn’t want to turn him down, but I needed to tell him the truth about me before I committed to binding us together. It wasn’t fair to him otherwise.
“I... There’s something I need to tell you, but I can’t yet.”
His eyes searched mine.
“That’s the only reason you won’t take me as your mate right now?”
I nodded, even though my logic told me there should be a million reasons not to mate with a wolf shifter who I’d known for all of one month.
“Yes. The only reason. I just need some time to get to the truth and tell you. Then you can decide if you want to mate with me or not.”
